    This has been posted before..

And although the discounts look appealing, it's actually not that great.

ShipItTo is cheaper than My US.. even after the amex discounts.. MyUS is still much more expensive than other providers.

Also, MyUS is located in a state where there's a state Tax. ShipItTo offers locations where you can ship to to avoid state tax.

    • Thanks for good analysis.

    • OK. Should the deal be deleted then? :)

      Thanks

    • Have you actually done the price comparison? I just did a quick one for shipito and myus for a 5lb package. Cheapest for shipito was 43.33 for 5 day delivery with TNT, cheapest for myus.com was $43.46 (remembering that you take 30% off the premium member price) using DHL express which is 1-3 days delivery (usually 3). IIRC myus also give a pretty good price on light but bulky items. I've never been charged a state tax on anything I've ordered.

Shipito will also charge you membership/package fee whereas the free premium myus account will give you free package handling and consolidation.

I haven't used shipito but I've never had any problems with myus and each time I've used them the shipping cost they've charged me has been less than the estimate.

      • I have in the past. I actually have an account with MyUS, but have never used it because I've always found Shipito cheaper.

and to the OP, no, don't delete. There's no harm in signing up for a free account!

Maybe i've been finding prices vary alot because im shipping very bulky and heavy items (5-10kg minimum). I haven't done a through comparison, but from all the times I've used it, I've personally found that shipito was cheaper.

That's not to say that it applies to everyone.

        • Do you have the AMEX myus account? As I said the extra 30% off from their Premium quoted price makes it quite reasonable and afaik only AMEX members get that deal. Don't know why anyone else would use them :S I agree that if you're just going off the "Premium" discounted price then it's a bit on the expensive side.

        • Yes i do. The Amex My US Account..

  • How do you get that ? I tried signing up with both bank issued and Amex issued card and get to last screen to submit and see that the charge is $80 with no waiver.

  • Just tried and it worked. The fourth step blanks out all costs.

  • can we use this service to buy Ipad from US?

    • Yes, although their warehouse is located in Florida and they apply a tax on items going in (around $50 for a 64 wifi model). Either use another shipping service thats not situated in FL or just buy from Australia because the exchange rate Apple used on iPads this time round is much more reasonable.

  • I used UStoOZ this month for my first US shipment. The service and communication from Sarah was fantastic and extra helpful to a newbie. Everything was repacked in one box to minimise freight and arrived safely and quickly. Haven't compared prices with this deal, but did before chose them, and would use them again even if their price was a bit more expensive, which I doubt. UStoOZ is located in Colorado, and I had no sales tax issues. Highly recommended.

  • They seem to want to avoid USPS, which is cheapest 90% of the time

    • Also the least reliable.

      • You should speak to Gerry. Or I guess you can always pay for UPS tracking, plus insurance, plus some kind of warranty, a surge protector and a protective carry case.

Or you could pay half the price online by going with the cheapest possible permutation and then tell girls you life on the edge by risking packages that may not arrive in a timely manner.

        • Or may not arrive at all, in my personal experience.

        • I figure buy it again and you've still paid not extra over Gerry's :)

  • Lenovo in the US seems to be able to check out via the Amazon account, which lets you select shipping address to Australia.

Has anyone tried buying from Lenovo US using this method? (which is at least 40% cheaper, discount or not?)

  • Are you able to sign up with an AMEX but then switch to other card for charges, but still not be billed any recurring charges?

    • +1

No. They insist you use your Amex. I've been burnt by this before.

    • In the T&Cs it says something along the lines of "it's free as long as you have an AMEX card registered as the payment method" or similar.

  • Hi, I was just about to press the Submit button on the page, but it seems to look like the Premium Membership fee is waived only for the first year? Will I get automatically charged a membership next year or is the membership fee waived permanently?

    • Doesn't make mention of it. It only states the discounted shipping rates (30% off) are only valid for 12month from initial membership.

    • +1

We had this same argument last time this was posted. No, I have held fee-free membership for > 1 year now, and not been charged, so it most certainly is a permanent waiver so long as your registered card is your Amex.

    • Hovering over the question mark icon on the page this links to, the following makes up part of the tool tip

"This offer is only valid for American Express Card Members. Shipping discounts apply for 1 year from date of registration and are applicable when shipping DHL or Federal Express."

Sounds like it is one year. Perhaps they will extend it and not charge, but I'm weary of signing up in case they decide to.

      • Hmm… somebody who registered recently should check their "My Discounts" page. I signed up for mine last year and it says:

These discounts are currently active in your account

Hi all, I work for MyUS.com and the deal is for 2 years for Premium Membership from your registration date. This is for Australian and New Zealand Amex customers only. The registration link is www.myus.com/americanexpress-au . If you have any issues you can email your customer service contact and they will refund any membership fees if charged. You will be notified of who your account rep is when you register. You have to use your Amex card to get the discounts and if you switch card types after you register, no discounts on shipping will be applied.

We respond to all Customer Service Issues within 24 hours. I hope this puts some clarity around what the offer entails and what the proper URL is to access it.

          Regards,

          MyUS

        • Boo. It didn't say 2 years when I signed up last year.

        • You can contact your account manager and they will make sure discount is applied if you have any problem ZZYSS. If not you can contact me via our Facebook page, www.facebook.com/myuscom with your suite number and I will get you taken care of! Sorry again for any confusion.

  • I have the MyUS Amex acct. They over-quoted the dimensions, over-quoted the weight and used a larger box than was necessary as the shoe box within was fine to ship. They overcharged $33 or so ($22 after 30% Amex discount).

Their customer service is pathetic and rude and Amex have since refunded my money for me as MyUS have no idea how to resolve an issue.

Avoid. I will try Shipito for my next shipment as MyUS simply send out generic emails and obviously do not keep customer notes to assist their CSRs. Or Trisha is just their worst CSR and so is her manager.

PS. Amex are great and a good example of customer service

  • Just used the Amex deal last week with myUS. They bought for me (US merchant would take an OZ card/or paypal)

Purchased what I wanted and I had it 4 business days at my door. They shipped 54 pounds and it was over $100 cheaper and 4 days faster than when I ordered the same thing a few months earlier with another freight forwarder. I was happy overall and got a followup from them to make sure I was happy (although this is most likely automated)

    • Might I be nosy and ask which stores you bought from?

Amazon isn't exactly friendly with their merchandise as well, so I'm considering some stuff from there, as well as Lenovo US.

      Thanks

  • I've used MyUS a number of times now and love their services, particularly their personalised customer service team. They provide a free consolidation service which is also useful. I also have a ShipItTo account and use it whenever I just need a one-off item shipped from the US.

In my experience ShipItTo is cheaper if you're sending small, low weight, one-off items but MyUs works out to be better if you're trying to ship a number of items in one go.

  • glad i seen this post, totally forgot i signed up to this last time….so i have to cancel before they rape with me an annual fee….AS ONLY the first year is free. Wonder if I can reapply under a different name under this promotion to get another year for free 8)

    • From what I read, it wasn't only the first year…..

    • +1

If they were to charge you, you simply challenge that with your bank, and they'll reverse the charge until the merchant can prove you agreed to pay it. It's a risk almost all online companies take by accepting credit cards without signature.

MyUS would never bother to try and prove anything to your bank, so the reversal would stick, and your MyUS account would be cancelled.

  • has anybody tried purchasing tommy hilfiger cloths using myus? I heard they only send stuff to the add that is on your credit card?

    • im giving it a go now! heaps upset when TH 1st upped the shipping cost and then canned it altogether..

  • Hey Jerryrocks,
I registered last night and received an email from Jenny about an hour later syaing that they had tried to take out $20+ $80 out of my amex and the details were incorrect and could not process. my understanding was that it was free. it even came up at the end in the review stage saying that i received and $80 discount..

I replied back this morning but can you have a look at it for me as I want to place an order tonight/tomorrow from the Tommy site.
    cheers nathan

  • Hey Nathan,

Happy to help. Were you given a suite number? There should be a Letter and 4 numbers like B1200 use the letter and email [email protected] with the "b" being the letter used in your suite. Put in your email you tried to register and give them your suite number and they will talk with me and get your discounts applied and any monies refunded. did you go to www.myus.com/americanexpress-au to register?
