I think this is a good deal for anyone who is in market for a basin mixer considering this is sold for $499@Harvey norman and most others.https://www.harveynorman.com.au/dorf-epic-basin-mixer.html?CAWELAID=720013240000157708

For cold water you just lift up handle and twist to the left for hotter. So the neutral position is always cold which saves you money apparently. (prob just marketing but I do like the look of it)

I have one from last sale and it was easy to install. Its been pretty good so far and the flex hose is good quality. (didnt leak like the old cheap ones)

  • Jesus there must be a huge mark up on these 😱. https://www.cargobathroom.com.au/product/dorf-epic-cool-star…
    $690 here.

That's crazy… It's the exact same tap for more than 5x the price.

      • +2

I can smell scalpers. Probably buy from Amazon and sell at ebay, other selling sites for quick profit. I genuinely needed one last sale and wanted to share here to the ozbargain community, because it was well made and its been great so far.

  • So would these be good to replace any bathroom tap?

    • +5

Only if you have an epic bathroom

      • Yes I got an old bathroom, won’t make any justice lol

    • If you have a mixer type I would say yes. The flexihose isnt extremely long. Mine was just long enough to reach the connector. Installation was seriously a 10mins job and I am no expert.

  • These are epically cheap. RRP is $731.
This one has a RRP of $981 and is sold for $181 Dorf Epic Sink Mixer Black

Anyone considering a bathroom reno in the next 5 years would do well to buy one of these.

    • It seems like most of dorf range is on sale. I dont know why Amazon is so much cheaper than others 🤷‍♂️

      • +3

Yeah, GWA Group products - Dorf, Caroma, Clark, Methven. For RRP go to specify.caroma.com.au. I'm in the industry and normally get about 40% discount off RRP, so these prices are wild.

        • Oh! Good to know. 👍🏻

  • Lol. Only 1 left now.

      Used Like New

  • I'm awaiting the Dorf Steam Cool Start Basin Mixer

Not supporting epic store on this one

    /Poor quality joke

  • I have one of these taps installed in my current basin ad was wondering it these could be replaced by the above basin mixed tap

I am no expert. But you have the old style taps. There maybe a way. But I think it wont. Maybe an expert can fill you in on that. Anyway if you bought one Amazon has really good returns. So if it doesnt work out you can return with no problems.

      • If it’s doesn’t fit it will use it it in my other bathroom basin..cheers Op for the post ..

I did a job like this recently in my house.
Not the most straight forward job for beginners.
At the very least you’d need a new basin with one tap hole, recip saw to modify the benchtop to fit new basin (unless you’re extremely lucky and find one of exact dimensions of your old one, very unlikely).
Tools to cut copper pipes if previous install fed copper directly into spindles (mine did).
And if you’re unlucky enough (like me) to have waste hole of new basin not lining up with existing waste pipe in a very limited space, it’s headache central finding combinations of s/p traps to make everything fits.

TL;DR: doable, but probably not the most straightforward depending on what you have underneath.

      • Agree with these comments 100%.
        Cheaper fix -
From memory - the mixer will fit the hot or cold tap hole only so it may look weird
U can get covers to cover the other two holes.

    • The cheap way - the mixer should fit the hot or cold tap hole only so it may look weird
Judging from your photo - the taps are on a angle?
U can get covers to cover the other two holes.

but agree with Zonra with what is underneath the table

  • zero now

  • I took the last one. Thanks OP.

$731 -> on sale at $548.24 at Tradelink.

    • Tells you what crazy mark up these products are sold at. At that hell no. But amazon price was no brainer. Cheaper than the cheap dorf range at bunnings.

  • now OOS

This looks identical to the one I have and I’d strongly recommend against this. As it’s flat, water pools on the top of the tap (under the lever) and unless you wipe it every time after use, it will stain and you’d have to scrub it off. Looks good on paper but isn’t practical.

    • All of my sink taps are flat on the top and there is no pooling water - maybe yours has a leak causing water to sit on the top of it?

      • +2

Nah, it's from the water dripping from your hands as you turn it off.

        • Ohhhh, that makes more sense, I getcha! Yeah that's quite annoying 😂

      • +3

I think they mean water drops/splashings (e.g. from washing your face) pools on the top surfaces of the tap/lever. You then get calcium spots once they dry.

A leak shouldn’t cause water to pool on these surfaces, unless it’s the roof that’s leaking.

        Edit: too slow

        • Haha well thanks for the reply anyway!
I didn't think of it happening like that but now I do 😂

For cold water you just lift up handle and twist to the left for hotter. So the neutral position is always cold which saves you money apparently. (prob just marketing but I do like the look of it)

    It isn't marketing.

On a normal mixer tap unless the tap is always set to cold then every time you turn on the tap it is mixing in some water from your hot water pipe.

That means your hot water tank has lost some water, so needs to reheat new water water. Or it might mean your gas water heater has stated so has used gas.

    • So, it would depend on you shifting the lever toward cold soon after starting up? Ie a conscious decision still needs to be made to save hot water? Just curious.

      • -1

No, the default of this tap is cold. You need to make a conscious decision to shift the lever and use the hot water.

        • Oh that is good. Cheers, good to know this exists

        • -1

Incorrect. There is no "default". Like any mixer, if you move the tap fully to the right and lift it up, you get cold. If you move it fully to the left and lift it up, you get hot. If you move it anywhere in between and lift it up, well, you get a mixture!

          • -1

@dcash: You couldn't be more wrong!
Have a look at the tap in this deal. It isn't a normal style mixer tap.

            • @spaceflight: I bought the tap and have installed the tap, therefore I think I'm reasonably qualified to understand how it works. Do you need me to make a Youtube video for you?

    • +2

This is correct. I always shift my normal mixer taps to the cold position before turning it on but the rest of the fam doesn't so I always find it back at the neutral (not cold) position next time I use it.

    • -1

I bought this, and the "cool start" is complete nonsense. The only difference between this and any other mixer tap is that the handle is essentially offset horizontally by 45 degrees, such that the tap moves horizontally from 180 - 270 degrees, instead of 135 - 225 degrees. You can still lift up the handle when the tap is rotated anywhere across the available 90 degrees, and get either cold, warm, or hot water. Complete marketing nonsense.

      • The idea is that a lot, and I mean a lot, of people just turn it on at the “default” position (lever pointing straight toward you), therefore using hot water. This hot water most often won’t make it out of the tap if you’re just washing your hands etc.
You’re essentially wasting gas/energy to warm up the pipe works.
The cool start design eliminates/minimizes this issue.

If you want statistics, only one out of 3 adults in my household turn the lever to fully cold before using the tap.

        • But there's nothing to suggest that anyone, after having used hot/warm water, is going to return the handle to the middle position. More than likely they would just push it down to turn off the water, rather than moving it to the right and then pushing it down. Exactly the same as with any mixer tap. Then what are the chances the next person to use the tap will move the handle back to the right (no matter whether the right happens to be at 135 or 180 degrees) before lifting it to turn on the water? Are they (you) hoping that someone will, before they turn on the tap, think to themselves "Gee whiz, the handle is not rotated to 180 degrees! I better rectify that situation before I try to turn on the tap!"

And why do you keep saying "default" position. There is no "default" position, as the handle in both standard and "cool start" mixers remains wherever the last person rotated it to. It's not as if there is some spring-loaded mechanism that returns it to a per-determined position.

  • Wouldn't use Hardly Normal as a reference.

Back in stock (can add to cart but back to $153.90 which is still decent price compared to what other retailers are selling it for.
