Can any one comment on the performance of this (I thought Vengeance was the top of the line brand for Corsair) - I've always been a little confused over what the Timing and Speed refer to. I have a feeling that there is some sort of ideal ratio between these figures?

Hopefully the above comments can be ignored and this thread can turn into a worth while discussion.

1600mhz is middle speed for ddr3, 2133 is the fastest, although 1600 is fine, you wont see a lot of difference in speed between the two. Also remember w7 hp and pro (i think), wont accept anything more then 16gb, ultimate accepts up to 192gb, if your board will take it. And yeah Dominator is very high quality RAM.

As for the timings of the ram for overclocking someone else will have to help me out here.

    • Dominator is Corsair's top tier performance memory whereas Vengeance is mid tier enthusiast level. Bit disappointed that these are only 1600mhz but at that price it's mighty tempting.

    • I bought 3x2gb dominator 1600mhz ram 2 years ago for $260

      4x8gb for for $258 is a BARGAIN

my machine runs super smooth with only 6gb tri channel. Mind you having an SSD helps

  • i cant wait for the day when the SSD are just circuit board with memory slots which you can swap in & out.

    • It has already been done many years ago ;)
      http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/I-RAM

Predates modern SSD's by quite a few years

      • not quite, i-ram uses RAM which is volatile storage, whereas SSD is permanent storage, i.e you switch off the power, i-ram forgets, ssd remembers-big difference!
i-ram is more of a hardware ram drive, easily duplicated with software drivers + spare system RAM

This is exactly what supabrudda was describing in his comment. I didn't say it was the ideal solution for SSD's, but merely that it had been done. derp

        • Actually i-ram had a battery backup system that would hold data for up to a week. Very cool for the time, obsolete with fast + reliable SSDs available

    • They were once little bugs, with many legs, which had to be pushed in carefully, into theirs sockets. Sometimes the sockets were not there, and one had to solder them on first. Is that what you requested?

  • Can someone explain to me how this would compare to 2133mhz? Would these just be marginally slower?

    • unless your doing some insane multitasking or video editing
      this is enough for you

  • I wonder if Bought this could i put two dimms the HP N40l Microserver from dessytek if it ever turns up? I could chuck the other two in my desktop rig.

    • +1

You will not get these in the microserver without taking the heatspreaders off. Better off buying some value ram or low profile vengeance memory

      • doesn't the hp only takes ecc?

        • Nope, ECC or non ECC. Just not both at the same time

  • hmm what to do with 32GB RAM?

    • Virtualise all the things!!

      • 32GB may just be enough to keep using chrome the way I do (500 tabs open at all times)
