Bec Hardy SA Shiraz 2020 $98/12 Bottles Delivered (52% off RRP) @ Wine Shed Sale

180

Review by Jane Masters, UK Master of Wine: ““Full of chocolate and spices with a touch of smoke and green leaf, this is a medium-bodied Shiraz. Grapes were grown mainly in the Riverland with some Langhorne Creek and Currency Creek fruit. A small amount of Petit Verdot was added, giving a firm slightly austere acidity with lingering flavours of bitter cherries and green leaf” – RRP: $17/bottle (screwcap)

VINTAGE: The start of the 2020 growing season was dry with warmer than average temperatures. Heat and wind during flowering led to lower fruit set and subsequently lower yields at harvest. The temperatures became milder from late January, allowing the vines to recover and helping maintain acidity. Although crops were down considerably this vintage, the quality has been fantastic.

STORY: The quintessential Australian red. This Shiraz is an elegant fruit-driven style.

NOSE: The nose displays notes of plums, pepper, and a hint of dark cherries.

PALATE: The palate is elegant with great flavours of plums, cherries, and black pepper, finishing delightfully smooth and lingering.

CELLARING: Drink Now to 2025.

  • Bought this last year (or earlier this year, cannot remember), and the wines were pretty good.
    Getting tempted.

    • Wine is always so tempting! :-)

  • Picked up a few of these as part of the mixed deal last round. Can't go wrong at that price point

    • Thanks @v8james - real wines made by real people. Not a multi-national or major corporate in sight. Cheers! RD :-)

  • Any deals planned for the future on the Mourvèdre or Tempranillo?

    • Probably as inexpensive as you'll et them right now at www.wineshedsale.com.au :

      Mourvedre 2020 $79/6pk RRP $180
      Shiraz Tempranillo 2019 $85/6pk RRP $180

Free shipping if you use the code OZBARGAIN or spend over $150+

You might not want to miss this deal either -> Top 100, 2021 in the US -> https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/666576

      Cheers!

  • Why give the gift of a 500g $6 chocolate shaped like the Swiss Alps which is really 48% chocolate and other stuff when you can give the gift of a 750ml bottle of premium wine or 12 at under $9 each?

  • I love toblerone too. Especially with a good Muscat or a vintage port/fortified! Cheers! RD :-)

  • Thanks, I've bought a case. Cant wait to try it

    • Winner - thanks for that. Should start winging it's way to you in the next day or so :-)

  • How does the SA Shiraz compare with Mourvedre 2020 or the Shiraz Tempranillo?
I love Shiraz, but don't recollect trying out the Mourverde or Tempranillo.

Both Qantas and Reader's digest have some good wine offers, but would rather support a small/ medium business that produces locally.

    • Mourvedre and Shiraz Tempranillo from McLaren Vale and more oak, so fuller bodied.
Tis is a great price/quality ratio wine. If you want something equally outstanding, try this -> https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/666576
One of the top wines in the US in 2021.
Happy to be a supplier to Qantas but yes, supporting small and local provides for a more sustainable wine industry :-)
      Cheers RD :-)

      • Thanks for the detailed information.

        • My pleasure :-)
