London: SYD $396, MEL $393, Berlin: SYD $360, MEL $359, Athens: SYD $360, MEL $373 [Feb-Oct] One Way Scoot @ Beat That Flight

960

Seriously, considering how many hours and kms it takes to fly to London, this is really phenomenal. As well as Berlin and Athens.

Each flight includes 10kg carry on luggage. Not much else, it's a true budget airline, but it is cheap!

If you can't see all the columns, it's an ozb rendering issue, click here to see the full wide tables.

On the other hand, my brother did this trip (to London) in 2012ish and 'will never fly Scoot again!', but will fly RyanAir. So to each their own.

And how much to get home?

  • +4

I'm sure there's no one looking to get home to Australia and prices are just as competitive on the return leg.

IF you can find a flight, I hope you have a spare kidney.

    • -1

I've arrived yesterday from EU, one way was 990 AUD, nothing extraorbitant :)

      • That's awesome. Now re-read the above dates and come back say middle next year… which is when I was referring to :).

Coming back right now isn't the problem mate.

        • heaps of tickets mid next year for similar price to mine, not sure where you've got your information from, but it is not right :)

  • +1

    How much for return?

    • +44

      3 years…

  • +10

Might be a bit of a gamble - a couple of countries in Europe have just gone into lockdown: Austria as of 22 Nov (on their 4th Wave!), and now Slovakia.
Hungary and Czech Rep likely to follow very soon.

    • +6

and……..do you not notice all Eastern European with low Vaccine take up. There is a pattern emerging between vaccine take up and third/fourth waves. Regardless of your views on vaccines, the facts are starting to show a very clear pattern.

      • -8

Especially since the new South African variant is from an unvaccinated person

        • -2

          Fiction.

          • -1
          • @Mr BoMBAStiG: Yes, of course it is, because I have nothing better to do than make stuff up about peoples health.
Fools like you are the ones who have a fiction orientated mind, believe facts and science and you may just live longer.

      • +1

Not necessarily true. See the Netherlands.

        • +2

Netherlands only just over 70% vaccinated (total population), over 18s around 85% vaccinated, and since they started earlier than here, many double-dosed people need boosters. That's a lot of people still spreading it around.

          • @Usernames: Good summary. This is the problem with this whole situation, the real world is complex and fluid, yet so many people want to simple answers.

        • Agreed, check out Africa. The actual trend is quite alarming https://mises.org/wire/low-vaccination-rates-africas-covid-d…

    • Czech republic is now in lockdown

Have flown Scoot several times Sydney to Singapore and back. I know they're Singapore Airlines owned.

They are OK, but it's chalk and cheese between the two.

Sitting on a plane for 24 hours I'd be happy paying MANY times more for the added comforts and entertainment.

    • +2

One is a budget airline, the other is a full service airline. From my experience, most budget airlines are pretty baller when you pay for all the extras.. and they can still turn out to be a little cheaper than a full service economy flight! YMMV.

      Puns always intended.

      • +3

Yeah the few times I've flown a budget airline internationally (usually for time constraint reasons) throwing down an extra $100-$200 on upgrades has made it a very pleasant experience with leg room for days in a near-empty 'economy plus' section of the cabin (empty seat next to me) with flight staff supplying a steady stream of food and drinks, etc.

    • +6

I'm always perplexed when people can't handle a 24hour economy flight but are fine with supporting animals kept in cramped cages (that make economy look like first class) their entire lives.

      • -3

        what

        • +7

I suspect you know exactly what.

          • +3

@fantombloo: I don't disagree, I just mean the original commenter didn't say anything about animals and it felt like they were getting called out. Could be vego or vegan as far as we know.

          • +1
      • +1

        completely true

      • +2

What's the relationship between these things?

    • This is very true. I’ve only done Scoot Biz from Singapore to Aus. It was kind of like economy on a full service airline but with a bigger seat. Even then the service wasn’t as good as Qantas economy. The food was definitely worse. But some people simply want to get there cheap, so scoot would be okay for that.

  • +17

Sydney to London on Scoot for $360? No thanks. 56 hours in and you'd be begging someone to take your extra $1000 for a half decent seat and a meal and a regular 25-hour flight.

  • +4

Yikes. Cheap but sounds like a brutal journey (especially if you're traveling with kids!)

  • +3

    Uk, new variant, Europe..Gluck

  • +12

Assuming it costs the same to return, $800 really isn’t that cheap compared to that Singapore airlines deal for $1150 return for a much better experience all round, difference even smaller once you add in luggage and any other ancillary costs

  • +9

Not worth it with the new variant.

Fully expecting my international flights in May to be cancelled with no refund.

    • Same here. Just booked phuket in April FML

    • Lol new variant.
      Covid normal indeed…

      • Imho not abt the variant but the risks of border closing and lockdown. Could be nothing tho. I said it would be nothing for delta but I was wrong.

    • Weren't the over 50's eligible for Pfizer instead of AZ? And what has that got to do with the Nu variant?

      • Well yes above 50 was eligible for Pfizer late so many above 50 got AZ.

Now, UK health minister said that this variant reduce effectiveness of vaccine to 30% and as you know majority in UK got their home made AZ, that's why AZ is relevant to Nu.

      • -1

UK is still testing vaccine effectiveness but they stopped flight today but Australian prime Minister still thinking is like NSW Premier who delayed lockdown after Bondi outbreak… !

  • +3

Scoot gave me a full refund after cancelled flights at the start of the pandemic.

    They are fine with me.

    • How did you get a full refund? Booked the flights for the Xmas holidays and if I could get a refund I might consider that option. Thanks.

  • +7

Are Scoot the ones where the flight attendants are "own food" police?

    • You betcha

      • +1

What can they do to you if you’re eating you’re own food? I’d just ignore them and keep eating. When I got caught drinking my own cans of beer I’d brought on in a small esky I just kept on drinking.

        • Or offer them one
          Or tell them you're diabetic

          • @funnysht: A handy tip is to bring the same brand of beer that they serve so as to not draw the attention of some old boiler on a power trip.

I hope Singapore will give another extension for points.

6 months only, considering haven't been able to do much for 2 years.

If 1 passenger has covid, all passengers go direct to hotel quarantine for their holiday as per recent SYD-ADL flights. Happy holidays-not.

That sounds undesirable. Can someone please send me more information on this?

Looks great. If you don’t want a return flight.

It's good, and if you're young and on a budget it's really good.

Personally, as someone who's flown a lot over the last 30 odd years, I would be careful about a couple of things:

    1. These flights connect to other budget airlines. I'm assuming that you therefore have two tickets, one from Melbourne to Athens and one from Athens to London. The danger here being any delays causing you to miss the second flight and you're on your own. Not so bad if you have to get from Athens to London under your own steam, but pretty catastrophic if you need to find an alternative flight from Athens to Melbourne on the way home. You could end up in a very deep and expensive hole…

    2. If you want any level of comfort for the 40 hours you are in transit you're going to end up spending money on food, drinks, entertainment and so on. The boredom of sitting around in Athens or Singapore or 10 hours can end up costing you several hundred dollars. By the time you add this to the cost to check in baggage then that $800 return flight is actually closer to $1200, at which point the question would be "why am I sleeping on airport floors and putting myself through the hell of a budget airlines, when an extra couple of hundred would get me there 16 hours earlier and in relative comfort?".

But, as above, if you're young and you can cope with the discomfort, go for it?

I think the "young" thing is it. I used to love the challenge of traveling rough when I was in my 20s. Twenty hour hard sleeper train in China = fun. Now I am in my 40s, you could not pay me to do this :-)

Free covid with every ticket, enjoy!

With checked baggage at $200 it works out to be $500-600 one way, so about $1000-1200 return. You can fly with Etihad for around $1200-$1400. Think I'll pay that little bit extra for full service with a shorter layover.

    • Or, not take checked baggage.

Although, it is a bit chilly up north this time of year.

    omicron has entered the chat…

  • New variant is definitely a concern, but we don't know if it gets around the vaccines yet. It might be a storm in a teacup if the vaccines are still effective against the new version anyway. Failing that vaccine makers have said 3 months to tweak the vaccines to stop the new variant. At worst, we will just need to get a booster in Feb/March before travel.

  • New covid variant aside, it is kind of tempting, but how much for return? From comments it seems scoot aren't that great…
