  • Is this the normal selling price?

    • Has been the same price for some time now. Cant find many reviews online as well.

    • It was $699 at Myer. Kinda looks like a normal price at Big W, but still a cheap price.

  • How do these compare to models such as the YAS-108B?

    • I have a similar soundbar to this. JBL has better bass, probably better for music. Yamaha has better dialogue audio and it's easier to hear people talk. Sounds pretty good considering it doesn't have a sub.

  • Had major issues with this model with the sound cutting out. As the source changes audio tracks (eg ad break) it would turn off the power to the speakers, then turn it back on. It was meant to be a power saving feature, so it isn't using excessive power, but it just kicked in as soon as there was a change. I would lose the first 1/2 second to second of audio. Doesn't sound too bad, and in a movie it generally didn't do it, but depeneding on how a youtube video was produced or like mentioned ad breaks it was constant and annoying. There was no firmware update last I checked so I took it to the repairer. They damaged it further in repair so I got a refund. I paid $500 for it back about 2 years ago. The sound is quite good apart from this issue. It happened through the hdmi and optical feeds also.

The sound cutting out is a known problem. I've had a look at a couple of threads from other forums, JBL didn't release a public firmware update for this issue. Apparently, you had to contact JBL support telling them the issue and they would send you a firmware update to fix the drop out issues. Shame this information isn't publicly available on their website.

I was anticipating this issue it when I bought this model but I've been fortunate enough not to have this drop out issue.

      • JBL didn't reply or return my calls about this issue. Good guys referred me to their JBL authorized repairer who said there wasn't a firmware update for this model and it needed a hardware upgrade. There are firmware updates for other models like the similar 5.1. When I got it back at it looked like it had been dropped. Terrible experience all round and many wasted hours. They might have sorted it out now but I won't touch JBL again.
