Red Energy (Electricity Only) Referral Offer - Choose 7,000 Qantas Points or $100 Gift Card for Referrer & Referee

350

Found this to be a pretty good deal, I just switched over recently and got the Gift card sent to me on the day of service activation (took about a week from sign-up).

Looks like they've recently doubled the referral offer from 3500 points / $50 gift card.

You can combine it with a few other deals going at the moment, namely the bonus Qantas points on sign-up and the Amex statement credit offer.

I intend to use both of these, meaning I'll get 10k QFF points, $100 gift card and $100 credit back.

Can't speak to the quality of this company or the pricing but I'll probably switch out in a few months regardless.

Note: When using the referral system, please check with the referrer that they are still an active member otherwise you will run into issues after signing up.

Cheers

  • Is it enough to just have the referrers account number? The page you linked to asks for their full name and email address

    • +1

Yes just account number is enough
I think you enter it at last stage of signup

    • Yeah I was only asked for the account number.

    • The form only asked for referrers account number, but they contacted me after seeking referrer account name and number.

      • Oh really? That's interesting. Contacted you by email?

  • +1

Yes you just need referees account number. I think the page that is linked is for people want to refer other people so they can send them the referral details to their email address

Their energy rates are pretty expensive when compared to reamped energy the last time I checked and just checked now again.

For me; with the most expensive electricity in Melbourne under AusNet:

    Red:
    Service to Property - 115.269 c/day (90% more expensive)
    Anytime Step 1 (First 11.178 kWh/day) - 26.754 c/kWh (26% more expensive)
    Anytime Step 2 (Balance) - 28.523 c/kWh

    Reamped ($50 referral):
    Daily Supply Charge - $0.6053/day
    Rate Anytime - $0.2122/kWh

You would have to stack multiple offers and/or switch out of it very soon, otherwise lose all the benefits of the sign on/referral bonus rather quickly, while remembering you get $50 credit on your electric bill upfront, which is as good as cash, with reamped.

For gas, it's the same story but not as bad. Suspect globird isn't the cheapest around..

    Red:
    Supply $0.7207 (13% more expensive)
    Step 1 $0.02653 (43.6% more expensive)
    Step 2 $0.02524 (59.6% more expensive)

    Globird
    Supply $0.638
    Step 1 $0.01848
    Step 2 $0.01595

depends on your city. I tried it for Sydney.

      Energy
      Red:
      service 85.085 c/day
      Peak: 38.610 c/kWh
      Shoulder: 20.570 c/kWh
      Off Peak: 13.860 c/kWh

      Reamped:
      service 99.00 c/day
      Peak: 39.990 c/kWh
      Shoulder: 23.110 c/kWh
      Off Peak: 18.170 c/kWh
      Feed-in Tariff: 0.0900 /kWh?

Red is cheaper by a bit; do your own research & don't follow on what others say

Also they have local call centre & when you need anything it was quite easy. Been with them for 5 years, happy with the service. Maybe its not to get the cheapest but get a cheap one with good quality service.

      • For reamped be sure to choose "handshake" rates which is not the default option.

I'm sure it does vary by City/location but I would be surprised it's the first time I've heard reamped isn't the cheapest.

        • -1

Handshake rates below; this is a one year contract; the Red Energy one is no contract. Also need direct debit & online billing. Red is no need to direct debit & post bill.

          Supply Charge $0.9350 /day
          Peak $0.3025 /kWh
          Shoulder $0.1650 /kWh
          Off-Peak $0.1430 /kWh

          • @airpoe: handshake isnt a contract, hence the name handshake. so more expensive supply but cheaper usage rates then, well naturally its then up to your own usage to determine if its worthwhile.

post bill? what's that? I'm paying my reamped via a credit card (but still direct debit)

Also they have a $90 connection fee? That kinda sucks

    • I am new to Red, and I rang them today for connection in two weeks and they confirmed that there would be NO connection fee. I'll confirm upon receiving the very first bill from them.

  • Wil this work for Gas only? Do they do credit checks?

    • I was about to ask the same question, the referral will not work with gas. It seems the referral is for electricity only. If correct, I think OP should update the title

      • ahh damn, I'm in a desperate need for a gas only account haha

      • Yeah I think electricity only, I can update the post.

I compared them all, if you sell a lot of energy back to grid, AGL has best feed in Tarif

    • Used to be 21c per kw and now they’ve dropped to 11c ! Apparently still the highest feed in tariff out there🤨 from the 31/10 we sold $71 so far to the grid! Our bills are mostly in the credit with a 6kw system.

    • +1

Feed in tariffs vary from state to state, in Vic for example AGL pay 6.7c but some other retailers offer 10-12c. It's worth checking the rates for your specific postcode, and consider daily charge and energy rates not just feed in tariff.

https://www.solarquotes.com.au/energy/ is a pretty good comparison tool.

  • Red Energy is a Mafia syndicate. They tweak your account and then lied its a projection.

    • Can you explain more what you mean

  • Isn’t red energy owned by Chinese?

    • +1

Incorrect. I believe it is 100% Australian owned.

    • +1

Alinta Energy and Energy Australia are chinese owned.

    • It's owned by the (Australian) federal government.

It just occurred to me that there's no reason this needs to be a PM system. Why can't Ozb just store your customer number and show that when someone wants a referral? Makes sense no?

    • maybe a privacy issue?

  • any recommendation on which provider offers the best deal for Gas in Vic? I'm currently with Red.

  • Are they cheaper than Tango Energy in Vic?

    • Key in your postcode at Red and Tango websites to do the comparison.

  • I'm having difficulties with the random referral link here. Could someone give me a valid customer number for a referral?

    • can you message me, can't send you a message

  • I've referred about 5 people now, only got one gift card back. Seems weird since sign up to service activation took less than a week in my experience. Anyone else waiting a while to receive the reward?

    • You will get the gift card after first billing cycle
      Its different for everyone

      • Righto, makes sense. Cheers

  • I need a referral for Red Energy please. Thank you.

    • pm'd you

  • Does anyone know if this would work for us if we were last with Red Energy in March/ April last year. We are moving to a new address later this month. Could we sign up again and get this and the Qantas Points bonus?

    • Term states.

A returning customer must not have held an active electricity account with Red Energy at any time during the 24 month period prior to being referred.

      • +1

Thanks! I guess we can put the account under my partner's name, since it's a new address etc.

  • Just signed up and got the confirmation letter.

There was nothing in the welcome letter about a $100 gift card or qantas points.

How do I know if the referral code worked properly?

    • You'll get an email about it from an external company. Should show up within your first week of service.

      • so your welcome letter didnt say anything about the $100?

and when you entered the referral code on the sign up page it didnt mention the $100?

        • Didn't even get a welcome letter to be honest haha. Or do you just mean an email?

I don't recall it being mentioned anywhere until I actually received the gift card.
