Why would someone buy this now?

    • +3

Because with Forza Horizon 5 released, it is inevitable that Microsoft will EOL this title some time in the future. Once that happens, it will be removed from GamePass.

Thus, it comes down to whether you've completely lost interest on the game and is happy to let go of the progress (cars, houses etc…) collected. We've seen it happen to Forza Motorsport 7 recently. A bit surprised that's EOL'ed despite Motorsport 8 hasn't been released yet.

Anyway, no more new content on Forza Horizon 4. Source: https://www.keengamer.com/articles/news/forza-horizon-4-has-…

Wont this just go end of life and be like $20?

    • +1

Standard edition, probably will be. Based on Microsoft's track record, Microsoft would try to milk customers more for Ultimate edition. However, hope I am wrong and it will be $20 right before it's EOL'ed (if not earlier).

    • Historically its been the base version for that price and Deluxe and Ultimate Editions have been more. Forza 7 when it got delisted was about this much at the end.

    • actually other region is currently selling like $25ish, if you get access to buy from there. but it's not for everyone.

  • just get game pass, it includes Forza 5 as well.

I was playing last night and notice 9 million players are on it and at ~AU$100 a pop that's almost $1billion! Then I remembered it's on gamepass so not as impressive.

Am I the only person that buys games? I don't get the appeal of gamepass or PSNow. Maybe it's because I don't have time to play that many games anymore and just play games I want to play, if/when I get time?

    • +1

If you use the VPN method, it's around $45ish per year for gamepass.

I figured buying a new game costs about $68, so I'd pay less than that per year and get access to a whole bunch of games (which also includes brand new/very recent games).

I similarly don't have that much time to play many games so it's nice logging on to see a good library to pick up and play stuff when I get the chance.

I just paid $1 for 3months of gamepass. From Forza 5 alone, I can REALLY see the appeal.

How much you spending on games per year? If most are on gamepass there's a direct saving right there. Sure there's some classics that I own and will always own, but they're mostly from the 90s when you got a cool box and a manual.

I still pay for games though, I'm only recent to gamepass, but you should at least check it out. The intro deal right now is awesome and I got to play Anthem as well which I've always been curious about. It's quite fun!

Even at no discount, the calculus is basically if there are 2 full price games you play on gamepass per year, then it's approximately broken even versus buying those games.

It's not a service for everybody, but it's very well suited for people who play a lot of games. I wouldn't be recommending it to John Collarduty who only plays one game per year which is CoD or Fifa, though.

$1 deals for GamePass, obviously, they are bargains. However, it gives a somewhat biased view of GamePass. Those deals are not offered (or offered a lot less) to people who have been on GamePass in the past for quite some time. Once Microsoft stopped offering those deals to your main account, you will re-think about GamePass Ultimate. XBox Live Gold free games also suffer since the introduction of GamePass.

Everyone is different. GamePass is great, but once you have it long term, there is a tendency you are sinking time into more games (and games which you would otherwise not play). Even for Froza Horizon 5, unfortunately, due to playing Forza Horizon 2, 3, 4 + other expansion packs in the past, it is already wearing off on me (and I bought the premium add-on pack). Sure, it bring the best elements of 2, 3, and 4 back, but I've played them before.

I am not sure about Forza Horizon 5 (because I bought the premium add-on pack early). In Forza Horizon 4, Microsoft did repeatedly try to upsell expansion packs to me. Likewise for other first party games.

Taking the $1 deals repeatedly is a cost effective way to enjoy GamePass Ultimate and possibly avoiding too much of it too often.

        • Yeah I hear you. I have no plans to resubscribe after this. But the guy I was replying too was like "I don't get it" but if he can get on a deal, he'd be mad not to try!

@Sxio: It's a new way of thinking. Rent the games instead of own the games. It takes time to get used to. Problem is, 3rd party flagship titles are most likely not going to be there. For example, I bought Red Dead Redemption 2. Yes, I know it had been on GamePass a couple of times.

Forza games (both Horizon and Motorsports) are also exceptions on all first party games will be on GamePass indefinitely. Another thing is that it is not actually "Ultimate" enough since you don't get any of the expansion packs for Forza Horizon games. However, when you look at Gears 5, you do get to play the expansion pack. That's inconsistent.

Anyway, if you don't have the need / urge to have continuous GamePass Ultimate subscription, then you could save a fair amount of money.

        • i have game pass and i still buy games. i think that's what MS wants, let people try as many games as they can , and try to creat some orders amonng them.

    • You are not the only one. Still many ppl are buying physical copy of games.

But gamepass itself is fantastic. I am paying $15 per month. Since I started to subscribe gamepass, never bought a single game. There are plenty of good games and $15 per month is very reasonable as it includes the gold.

It is different from PSnow. It allows you to play games on your console as well as your PC and phones using Cloud system even if your console is off.

  • Awesome been waiting for this. By the way if you are an Xbox owner I would recommend getting this over a Steam version as it gives you a Play Anywhere copy.

Also this will get delisted one day and wont be on Gamepass for long.

  • if only it was on steam for that price..

  • Bought 3+4 ultimate edition bundle for $28 when 3 was EOL from Argentina server. That was really a killer bundle.

    • Can we still buy from Argentina region? I mean other games.

      • i did some homework, it's not for everyone since you will need argentina credit card and a vpn. or with a redeem code, just a argentina vpn would work.
i just bought this 4 ultimate from a cheaper region for A$25,
