A fan costs more than this :)

While I agree this is best value for money option IMO.

Take a look at the SE-224-XT
Paid $29 for it from PLE recently
Rated very highly by many of the tech youtube reviewers compared to other options.

        • Just checked it, now 35, plus 10 dollars shipping. I'd rather get this deal if I needed a cooler

    • +1

I had one very similar to this (probably older model) and they're just okay for the price - wasn't brilliant, but better than the stock cooler it replaced. Later invested in a Noctua one - easily the best purchase I've made imo.

        Agree with Noctua being awesome.

This cooler in one review with a Ryzen 9 3900X (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LzknNjXKAmg) with fans normalised to 35dba
SE-224-XT was 1 degree cooler than Hyper 212 at Idle, and 4.8 degrees cooler in terms of average temp and 4 degrees cooler in max temp.
Downside is the fan, but I dont notice it in my rig (using some older Noctuas as case fans).

For me the Hyper 212 is budget and so is this (Noctua or AIO being next level in terms of price and performance), except this is nearly half the price with slightly better performance. Gammaxx is slightly better than the ID Cooling (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m5_PV8Fz_n4) all depends on price.

Noctua is fairly overpriced IMHO, this will do the job for any 6-core CPUs with overclocking, and most 8 cores with mild or no overclocking. I run my r5 3600 at 35-40°C idle and 60-65°C gaming (1440p 144hz), that is not overclocked though. Haven't tried overclocking yet, but with adequate intake and outtake fans, this will probably reduce temps by 5-20 degrees depending on use case (ambient temps, case etc.). Yes noctua make very very good air-coolers that beat a lot of single or even double radiators, its still not worth it for most users. That being said, i think there are some better value-for-dollar coolers now, as Cooler Master have been milking this design for a while now.

Edit - Here's a source for anyone interested in stock cooler vs 212

      • Same CPU as you and same temps except mine is over clocked @ 4.4ghz using a snowman cooler from AliExpress.
Have you droped the core voltage on your 3600?

        • Have not touched any settings honestly, but I'm confused, are you saying my temps are good or bad? The temps aren't too high (I think) and are safe enough to not worry about. But it might be worth under-volting to lower the temps.

      • +1

You can use the noctua for many generations due to them giving you replacement mounts.

        • Yes, that is a very good point. I'm hoping they make a more budget friendly cooler with the same support.

It looks similar to Gammax 400 V2 (4 heat pipes, 120mm although Gammax is aluminium colour and blue LED lit) which is this price normally but it regularly drops to ~$30.

I have the EVO for almost 10 years, what a cooler!

    • Hoping it'll last me that long :)

  • +2

bought one exclusively for the stealth looks :))

    • Me too. As if I want to draw attention to a CPU fan!

  • +2

Good Price, i have my 6600k acting as a HTPC and the H110i is a bit loud and temps are meh, might give this a go

Bought the 212 Evo v2 last year for about this price, brilliant cooler for the money.

  • Bought this last week as im building a pc for a friend. They express posted it free with Amazon Prime, got it today.

  • Make sure your case is wide, this one's a big boy.

  • Compatible with 12th gen Intel?

  • +1

Look I rate it, it's a cooler that will work quite well for non-overclocked CPUs, looks good and/or neutral, it'll do fine for a long time, and when it dies, it'll just be the fan that needs replacing.

***Not for LGA1700 just remember, cold plate won't be 'as large' to cover the whole IHS, so avoid for K skus, rest will do in a pinch.

  • I had one hyper 212 on my LGA775 PC back in 2009. It a surprise this model still around until this day.

    • Because it's cheap to make, but with today's CPU this become an entry-level cooler, for this price you can get the thermalright PA120 from TaoBao.

    • Q6600?

      • +1

I forgot the code, but it was c2x 3Ghz, so it might be qx9650.
I remember boasting the new and more expensive core i7 wasn't able to keep up to my "extreeme" procie. Well it was when my parents were the one paid for electronic bill.

  • Didnt these use to be $35 seven years ago?

  • still a good cooler for most of CPUs. I was looking for this and ended up getting an Arctic 34 esports for $38 with an afterpay offer.

I found this detailed review on budget coolers : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rhZTMR8mT

  • After buying one and posting this I've gone another way so if anyone wants one in Melbourne let me know :)

  • It is now $48.75 from Amazon AU, https://www.amazon.com.au/dp/B07H25DYM3
