Im doing a budget build using the 5600g, but with the intention of adding a gpu in the future. Should I only be looking for pcie4 boards for optimal gpu speed?
@Wildozer: If you want to use PCIe 4 on any B550M motherboard, you need to use a X CPU as PCIe lanes are provided by the CPU itself

you have to go second hand… seen a 1800x for $258 on ebay and I would get 50%~ cryptoback with socialgood on that one…
I've scored a couple of good second hand 6 core Ryzen 5 2600 with HSF for $140. Prices for PC components are good but the GPU is the killer

The B560 is 11th gen intel so AMD is better
AMD better than 10/11th gen Intel, but some pretty good bang-for-buck intel options for budget builds.
@Nvidia Fxxk You: I assume it's the 10th gen intel i3 10050F. Decent quad core performance for the money. With some of these ebay plus deals etc, you can snap one up for ~ $110 with HSF

@OblFa: B560 is a dead platform. At least with B450 you will still have access to AMD Zen 3D-Vcache on AM4, before Zen 4 on the new AM5 platform.
@shellshocked: Unless you’re buying B550/X570 AM4 is also dead, and according to AMD Vcache is only coming to ‘high end’ parts.
Realistically a 11400f buyer isn’t going to turn around and buy 5900x tier processor.
@Johnmac37: That is a general statement based on your opinion. I'm just stating a fact that B560 doesn't provide an upgrade path beyond 11th gen, as it's not compatible with the 12th gen socket.
B450 is socket compatible with Zen 3D-Vcache. There is nothing stopping OEM'S from supporting another iteration of Zen. The Max has 256Mb SPI Flash Rom chips to support newer CPUs. For example the entry level Asus and Gigabyte, inferior, A320 boards from 2017 have Ryzen 5000 series support enabled, even though they weren't intended to.

It's also just your opinion what a buyer of a 11400f will buy next without any facts to back it up.
@shellshocked: But is there anyone who would realistically be buying a new CPU and motherboard right now and then want to buy the Zen 3 refresh? Someone with upgrade-itis?
@Diji: My point was not related to upgrading at product launch, but that AM4 still had one more CPU upgrade option beyond Zen 3. If they chose to do it 2022 or beyond it's an option that is available for an IPC boost. Unfortunately it's the EOL for the whole Intel 11th gen platform.
@shellshocked: I suppose it comes down to whether a 15% performance uplift (as claimed by AMD) is worth money to you. If it's not, then AM4 is as good as EOL and thus directly comparable to Intel.

I'm doing a full build and 2 budget builds for xmas. This is a good deal. Wish I'd seen this before now.

good price, but it is very hard to find any cheap AM4 CPUs.
