  • Cheaper can upgrade to ultimate

      This is indeed cheaper.

That being said, that deal is only for inactive Ultimate members.

    • So we pay $1 get 3 month game pass PC. And pay 15.95 to buy 1 month ultimate also convert the 3 month altogether 4 month game pass ultimate? I know live gold works that way, not sure about game pass PC.

      • So we pay $1 get 3 month game pass PC.

Didn't work for me. I have an inactive account and still shows full price. It says in the fine print it is only for new members.

        • My game pass ultimate has expired, and I never joined game pass PC before. Login to my account, it still shows $1 for me just right now.

          • +2

@ce5himm: The more of these deals you use, the lower the chance you will be offer these deals again. Right now, Microsoft is doing the $1 deal for 3 reasons:

            • Forza Horizon 5
            • Halo Infinite (coming up)
            • Christmas

However, Microsoft appears to keep track of what was offered to each account. The more you use the conversion from Game Pass (Console, PC), XBox Live Gold to Game Pass Ultimate, the less chance you will be offered $1 deals later on for that account.

            • @netsurfer: Well, the point is to get cheap pass. No matter this time or next time. What's the point if you don't use it this time, just to get more chance to be offered next time? Are you going to take next time? Or you save for another NEXT time.
If one account can only get 2 times, just take it when you can. That's my thoughts.

              • @ce5himm: The point is, while these deals are working fine for "new users", they are not available to all accounts with expired GPU.

It's also a heads up that Microsoft will essentially try to get you hooked and will eventually stop offering you good deals. The XBox Live Gold vouchers have dried up with all the bargain deals pretty much no longer available. Sure, you can create new accounts if you want to.

The thing is, no one knows what triggers Microsoft to stop offering these to an account. Is it n number of $1 deals taken or based on GPU conversions. If latter, then it might be better to wait for $1 GPU 3 months deal, rather than go $1 GP/PC, followed by GPU conversion. It was actually much better before the introduction of GPU and GPU conversion. I recalled getting multiple $1 Game Pass (for 3 months) and at least two $1 XBox Live Gold deals prior to GPU.

                • @netsurfer: At the end of the day, if you are going to be Xbox gamer, you are most likely will sub xgpu anyway. If you looking at a multi years view( say10years), difference from $1 for 1 month or $1 for 3 months / $1 get convert or 15.95 get convert are really not that much different.

              • +1

@ce5himm: Right now, it is a good time to take up the offer(s) from Microsoft as Forza Horizon 5 just got released + Christmas coming up (potentially more time to play games).

        • It was the same for me @jv. I had just come off my gamepass subscription. When I looked closer though, it was actually telling me it was $15.95 total to upgrade my subscription instead of $1. it was a few months ago so I can't remember if it just changed one day or if it always said that. I jumped on it and it upgraded my XBOX live to GPU for 3 years for $15.95. Make sure you have a full 3 years xbox live sub on the account for maximum value.

Also it's much cheaper to get GPU by upgrading a standard XBOX live to game pass from here - https://www.eneba.com/xbox-xbox-live-gold-12-months-xbox-liv…

Look at the previous deal, I did this last week for a friend.
Will only work if you have an expired subscription currently.

          • @SKiZO: That deal you posted is good for people who Microsoft knows you / we've been taken these $1 deals too often and stopped. However, got to say Microsoft's approach does work. I too ended up getting XBLG vouchers, redeemed a few GP voucher and upgraded (had to use the $2 7 day GPU voucher to avoid paying $15.95 - explained in my other comment below).

      • And pay 15.95 to buy 1 month ultimate also convert the 3 month altogether 4 month game pass ultimate? I know live gold works that way, not sure about game pass PC.

Yes it is, if you haven't tried Ultimate for a long time you may be able to get it for $1, me can only get it for $15.95 and converted to 4 months.

  • +1

Wouldn't it better to just let GPU expire then do the Gold to GPU upgrade?

    • That's true. Basically the same process as this deal, but much cheaper price.

    • +2

Depends on whether Microsoft is still willing to offer you $1 conversion to GPU. For me, Microsoft offered it to me twice. However, after I let GPU expired the second time, Microsoft completely stopped offering me any $1 deal on my main account. Any conversion to GPU requires paying 1 month GPU at RRP price. The only workaround was getting a 7 day GPU voucher from sellers on Eneba for like $2 from memory (instead of $14.95 for 1 month of GPU at RRP from Microsoft). That voucher isn't restricted to new accounts only. However, those vouchers are probably not readily available now.

Another workaround is to accumulate enough reward points for 1 month GPU. The 1 month GPU voucher can be quite handy as Microsoft may offer you an extra month for turning on auto renew (which can be turned off later), essentially 2 months, whereas a 3 months GPU voucher is at best 3+1 (4) months.

    • Yes, much much cheaper too.
There's no point to buying a game pass sub as long as MS keep offering upgrades from XBL.

    • I took the full 3 years at about $45 a year, so I'm good till May 2024. These deals are still good as I doubt in May 2024 I'll still be able to get cheap Xbox Gold and a free upgrade. So I've been topping up with deals like this when they meet my value threshold ( <$10 month).

Anybody else think it’s strange that a store rep is recommending a VPN to their own store?

Why not just make the deal available to OzBargainer’s without requiring extra hoops.

  • Worked for me active subscriber. Thanks OP.

  • I paid 3 years up front (the maximum allowed) using the 1 dollar + convert gold to gamepass ultimate.

I'm at the 2 years remaining mark. Should I top up my account to 3 years again using this Deal (for $100). Or just let my game pass ultimate expire in 2 years time and then deal with how to top-up then?

    • How do you know there is no better deal in the next 2 years. There is no point to top-up now.

      • My thoughts are that gamepass is only getting more popular and I got 3 years for 150 bucks so I'm thinking $100 for a year is pretty amazing.

      • If you are a PC gamer, then yes, just get the $1 deals throughout the years. Probably will end up with 6 months worth of GPU each year (for $2 to $5). However, the deals are generally getting worse over the years. The beta program bonus was once off. The free GamePass voucher for joining MS rewards has not happened for 2 years now. AMD's promotion with games + game pass are now generally just games.

Console gamers, it gets a bit tricky. If you play a lot of games online game, then not having consistent XBox Live Gold could be an issue. Without much effort, you can easily get 1 month or 3 months GPU vouchers through MS rewards, especially for console gamers. Or, you could use those rewards towards games or add-ons. The premium add on pack for Forza Horizon 5 does improve quality of life a lot, especially early on. Quite easy to unlock free fast travel.

Also, a lot of OZBers got long term GPUs by combining some of those deals together (beta bonus, various free Game Pass vouchers (those do expire)) and throw in a few long term XB Live Gold. At the time, it did look like a very good deal.

Time for a top up! Only 18 months left on my account.

  • +2

Topped up my existing account. I was also offered a 4th month for turning on auto renewals, which can be then turned off after accepting the bonus.

Good till May 2024 now :D

  • Thanks OP - topped up and good till June 2024 now. I didn't get offered the auto-renewal unfortunately, not sure why, I usually do ?

    • I’ve had it multiple times too and got it this time, but I don’t recall the last time I did a top up. Maybe there’s a waiting period or something.

  • Voucher will work with an Australian GPU subscription even if the voucher is for Turkey? Just need to VPN to Turkey during activation?
Just confirming as this is not the case for O365, you have to let your prior region expire first.

    • +2

Can share this worked for me. To be sure I use a fresh incognito browser after I've connected to VPN. No issues at all.

    • +1

Worked fine for me. Didn’t even bother using an incognito session. AU account

  • As Game Pass Ultimate is console wide (except for the Microsoft Rewards quests), I just create a new account every month and use the $1/month introductory offer.

Just have to set the Xbox as your home console, so that you don't need to continuously log in to the subscribed account.

It's also best to turn off recurring billing, right away.

Plus, the $1/month deal will occasionally be available again for the accounts you've already used it on, too.

    • I thought you could only change the home console setting 5 times a year, or does that only apply to accounts rather than the console itself?

  • just got 6 months, thanks

  • Worked for me(existing active acct), $26.36 via paypal for 3mths, Thanks OP

  • Thanks OP, just bought 4 vouchers and topped up an active GPU subscription.

  • Just tried tonight and not getting any success with the code.
    That was 16NOV.

    Has this code expired?

    • Same.. I got "Code Not working". :\

    • I downloaded free UrbanVPN2 and it worked just now. extra 2 years

  • Thanks OP.
Decided to redeem my code via the Microsoft link + VPN and received the following:
"Redeeming your Prepaid Xbox Live Gold 12 Month code will automatically convert to 4 months of Xbox Game Pass Ultimate and will be added to your current Xbox Game Pass Ultimate account.".

Would I maybe need to wait for my current subscription to expire, or maybe I need to create a brand new account altogether?

  • Still works. cost me $107.50 a year
VPN trick works like a charm!
