LGA1700 literally has 500 more pins than LGA1200. Who'd have thought.

    • +1

I only found out with the 12th gen release that the number after LGA corresponded to the number of pins, lol

      • +6

With so much covid news these days, i automatically think LGA = Local govt area

    • yea. that's a bit jump.

i really thought it would be 1201 pins :) just to sell more motherboards

12600k is $499 local price. Better value?

In all honesty, CPUs that are using that much peak power should include PSU requirements, reviews showing 170-180W usage rendering etc. Similar to what a RTX 3060 would pull from the wall

    • +6

I dont think they need to tell you what PSU requirements you need as they dont actually know what you have in your system. All they need to tell you is that it pulls 125w base to 190w max which says so in their specs.

they are literally telling you how much power it uses?

Next Gen Intel will be a beast with most of the Windows 11/DDR5 bugs worked out. I think I'll wait until then to upgrade my faithful 8700k.

    • Here I am still plebbing a 5820k :/

      • I'm a gen behind you with a 4820k :)

    • +1

Yep, and AM5 should be out by then too to bring more competition and hopefully better prices across the board. Was tempted to upgrade my 8700 but these new motherboard and DDR5 prices have made it an easy decision to continue holding off.

    • I'm still on a 2 series and still kept telling that to myself that every year

      • oh you're in for a shock

        and

why didn't i do this early afterwords.

I've seen some videos comparing the 12700k to the 5950x. According to the results, it runs 10+ degrees cooler, uses less power and performs a better.
If anyone wants to buy this now, Amazon has it too https://www.amazon.com.au/s?k=12700k&i=computers&ref=nb_sb_n… for an extra $2. (comes from USA)
I'll be waiting till Black Friday, hoping for better deals/

      1. Don't compare a 5950X to a 12700K for gaming and efficiency - a 5600X is a far better for efficiency (temperature) anyway while giving pretty similar performance as the 5950X for gaming.

      2. $720 for a CPU that performs within 10% of a $399 CPU (while having much cheaper motherboards) is absurd for gaming.

      3. Assuming "performs a better" is for gaming refer to 1. if not well… for multicore a 5900X platform which can be had for the same/less than the 12700K platform is once again a far better choice as 12 real cores beats out the 12700K for multicore.

Conclusion: If you've got the money - who cares, get a scalped 3090 and a 12900K with this bad boy while your at it, if not don't make dumb decisions over new CPU hype at least until the prices fall in line - same thing could be said a few months ago when the 5000 series was fresh where the i7 10700KF + a cheap B460/B560/Z490 was better value.

Better off buying at Amazon AU (via US) ($720) with discounted gift cards https://www.amazon.com.au/Intel-Core-i7-12700K-Dodeca-core-P…

    12700KF also available for $676 https://www.amazon.com.au/Intel-Core-i7-12700KF-Dodeca-core-…

    • I wouldn't lose a GPU for 40 bucks unless you're certain you won't use it. But that's probably not you if you're buying a CPU.

Yea I'd never buy a KF model personally (if buying Intel), at least not for my main rig, even if it's likely I'll never need it.
