OzBargain Firefox and Chrome Add-ons / Extension

MOD: See OzBargain Official Chrome Extension & Firefox Add-on.

Hi There,

My name is Gal, I am Melbourne based Oz Bargain fanatic and a full time web designer.

I have recently developed a Firefox and Chrome extension that shows all recent posts from ozbargain.com.au.
This is my first extension development so be gentle, also i would love to hear any feedback.

More About this Add-on, taken from the extension page:

"Do you love browsing on OzBargain.com.au? Don't you you hate it when you missing out deals that expired or ozbargained a minute before? Then this is the add-on for you!
Install this add-on today to get instant updates on the latest deals Oz Bargain community has to offer.

This addon is not operated by ozbargain.com.au. I'm just one fanatic Ozbargain user who likes to find deals online and created this addon to share them all with you.

Deals are posted to deals.vibesdesign.com.au, and that page is loaded in the popup window. The icon on the browser bar will notify you when updates are posted.
Checking for updates occurs once every 10 minutes."

  • Nice work it looks great :)

  • Looks cool.Refresh button would be nice ("Checking for updates occurs once every 10 minutes" - nah). However, main element of ozbargain is missing - discussion. I'm sure 50% of registered users visiting Ozbargain every day for the discussion as well as for deals.

Looking forward to see my server load soaring high…

I know it is far from being perfect, but it came handy and useful for myself.

In the future i will add the voting numbers, discussions numbers and a refresh button, just need to find some time doing so.

Does any of you think it will be a good idea (or possible) posting it as a deal? so everyone will know its out there?

Bad idea to post it as a deal, as its not. Perfect place for it here in the forums

  • Will check it out, great work OP, will get back to you

    • Checked it out and its quite a nifty little add on, though i personally wont be using it as my main way of following OB, having the "Live" page open is my preffered way, id use this as a secondary to catch any new deals i may miss

Personally I don't use these type of things - happy with my daily email
But this looks well made and I am sure many will find it useful
    Well done

  • I use Firefox and my solution is :

Whenever a new post, or deal comes up the it pops up in a scrolling bar. You can configure the update checks and a number of other options.

Thanks for your efforts, I'll check it out

  • Haven't tried this out yet, but it would be hard to beat the responsiveness of tweetdeck + following @ozbargain. No reliance on ozb servers! I've found from the past that the RSS feeds lags behind by some time.

    • Yeah sending to Twitter is pretty much real-time, as soon as the deal was published.

  • Loving it so far vibesdesign! Cute analogue TV intro. Looking forward to testing it further! :)

  • I am scared to try it , As it is I spend far too much time here, scared of what I might miss out on…. this will just make me addictive..

Like a flashing red sign that shouts at me click here ,click here,

Good work anyway my friend !!
