Tether is ~$1 but you are right for the wrong reasons, tether seems doge given the below.

While, according to its 2021 settlement with the New York Attorney General Letitia James, "Tether represents to users that any holder of tethers can redeem them from Tether the company at the rate of one tether for one U.S. dollar,"[5] Tether Limited as of 2017 stated that owners of tethers have no contractual right, other legal claims, or guarantee that tethers will or can be redeemed or exchanged for dollars.[6] On 30 April 2019 Tether Limited's lawyer claimed that each tether was backed by $0.74 in cash and cash equivalents.[7][8] In May 2021, Tether published a report showing that only 2.9% of Tether was backed by cash, with over 65% backed by commercial paper.

      https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tether_(cryptocurrency)

      https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Commercial_paper

Commercial paper, in the global financial market, is an unsecured promissory note with a fixed maturity of rarely more than 270 days. In layperson terms, it is like an "IOU"….

      • +4

Probably what makes that worse is that if what they said was true about commercial paper it would make them one of the largest commercial paper holders in the world but no-one in that area has heard of them.

So it's probably a ponzi with exchanges just getting cheap tethers to feed their trading bots with IOU's they never have to repay. These guys also gave around 1 billion dollars to money launderers with just a verbal agreement which wound up with them losing all that money. SO when the money launderers got busted and assets frozen they had no claim to the frozen funds.

They are either scammers or absolute incompetent clowns but either way tether looks to be heading to disaster and it wouldn't surprise me if everyone on tethers side wound up in prison.

The good news is that you can exchange it directly for numerous digital assets on our platform or even back to AUD if you'd like.

The reviews aren't too kind: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.zipmex&hl=…

Plus the address on the play store is:
391B Orchard Rd, Unit 22-01, Ngee Ann City Tower B, Singapore 238874

    Yet another address.

But I can only find: JACHIN CAPITAL PTE. LTD. 391B ORCHARD ROAD, NGEE ANN CITY TOWER B LEVEL 22 238874

  • Scam alert!!!

  • +1

I accidentally transferred money from an unverified account of mine to Zipmex on 27/10/2021 and I am still chasing that up with them.

  • Don't like the smell of this!

  • TL;DR The biggest red flag to me and why I'm not trusting my data to this company is they are unable to provide the details they registered with AUSTRAC under.

Their company name and ABN give no results.

    https://www.ozbargain.com.au/comment/11311555/redir

They gave a "registration number" but that cannot be used to search via https://online.austrac.gov.au/ao/public/rsregister.seam#

    For example:
If you type in Coinjar, it returns results.

Maybe I'm doing this wrong. I've never used ZipMex perhaps it's fine but I'm not trusting a company I can't verify.

According to https://techcrunch.com/2021/01/11/zipmex-which-aspires-to-bu… it's raised money from investors.

I'm not suggesting they will scam you, but trust is earned and I'm not trusting my money to a place I cannot verify.

    • For the AUSTRAC registration, we are registered as a Digital Currency Exchange (DCE), not a remittance service company and as a result it's a different register that ASIC don't seem to have an online register for but I can assure you that if you were to contact them they would quote you the number i provided (100600209) they would confirm it's us.

If you look up other exchanges they are also not listed (CoinJar being the exception but they must have a side business remitting funds overseas).

  • What is your ABN registration? Even a foreign entity can have a local ABN registration.

  • How much asset does Zipmex Australia Pty Ltd have, how many employee do you have, what protection are there in place to ensure the assets of the Australian company are not taken away to the parent company and leaving Australian client without any recourse.

Per your T&C Australian client will be facing the Australian subsidiary, are there any non-revocable corporate guarantees by Zipmex Pte. Limited to take on any debt caused by the Australian subsidary?

The stuff about Tether (unrelated to this exchange) still stands.
The address stuff is weird but not proof of anything doge.
    https://www.service.nsw.gov.au/transaction/check-register-au… -> https://www.onegov.nsw.gov.au/PublicRegister/#/publicregiste…

shows they even got permits for the competitions. Which to me is some proof they aren't doge.

I'm still staying clear, but I'm removing my neg given the above and the explanation in https://www.ozbargain.com.au/comment/11312095/redir

  • Taking a crack at this one. Will report back..

I will bluntly say the website and exchange is too functional to be a scam or anything like that.

  • Taking a very long time to have the funds I deposited show up……plus that 1% deposit fee really puts me off

    • +1

Just wait until you see the withdrawal fees.

      • Yep just saw them…..

  • I’m still waiting on my referral bonus on signing up from a month ago, I’ve escalated 4 times, no resolution

    Avoid these people, totally dodgy

    • Hi Yuppieshrink,

Can you please send you us a private message so we can get this sorted? Sorry for any delay.

  • Thanks, I’ve sent a PM to zipmex

  • -1

No response to my private message on 25/10 when I raised the lack of bonus payment on the last promo and no response to my private message this afternoon

    • Hi, I replied 10 minutes after you sent it yesterday, could you please check again?

  • -1

Thanks, yes I had your reply but not the response that's needed, which is honouring the referral bonus……it didn't "drop overnight" for me for for the referrer as you suggested would occur…..still waiting for it

I've contacted your company 6 times over a month now, via multiple channels, met all the conditions (which each time I've contacted have changed) and it still hasn't been honoured.

I don't see this discussion helping the reputation of your company, if your company offer a promotion then you should honour it or you are wasting your time (and wasting the time of everyone on here)

  • I received my money within the 72 hours. About $5 withdrawl fee but I got my free money out. Have to admit that I won't be using this platform in the future as it's pretty messy compared to the competition. But free money can't be whinged at

    • Xlm> coinspot free $10 AUD to cash out.

  • Just got an email from zipmex. i joined for the bonus recentlty. email says deposit $20 by 22/11 and theyll give $30 of their zmt token.

    Worth checking your emails.

  • They are still trying to push this via email lol, and saying only for the first 100 people. They literally want you to record a video of yourself to sign up and submitting it never worked for me. Stay away people, this is a screaming dodgy product.

    • They=zipmex doesn't do kyc, third party does much like most banks.

    • Hey There,

Can you Private Message me and I can sort out any verification issue you may have run into?

In terms of the recording of a video, this is a standard know your customer (KYC) procedure to prevent fraud.

  • I completed my kyc. never saw any free money and i came there via ozbargain.
suffice to say after about a month of asking where the money was i asked to have my account closed.
something about sending my ID to Thailand has me concerned.

    • Hi Rarez,

Could you please send me a Private message and i can sort this out for you?

      Thanks,

      Andrew - Zipmex Australia
