  • When I wake up tomorrow morning Bunnings will have already price matched

      We can all hope.
That said, that’s too much money for a downlight.

      • +2

The $13 Aldi ones drop out of network every few days, which I noticed when adding more than 10, which doesn’t happen with zigbee.
That said, the hue ones are not bright enough for the price.

      • +1

I have over 15 hue bulbs and strips and all of them are working really well except one which was faulty out of the box.

I still think they should be cheaper as you can now get kasa bulbs and plugs for under $25.

      • Guess you can post cheaper ZigBee hue one?

    • Pls let us know if they do 🙏🏽

  • +1

    Wow great price!

    Limit of 5 per customer?
    I need 67…

    • +2

      Make 14 accounts then

    • +1

Jb hi-fi is your best bet. See if they are willing to match

    • Let me know if you're serious. I needed 80…i bought 15 from the last amazon sale..brand new…now im changing my mind.

      • Amazon is on sale again
I ended up buying 40 previously from JB and amazon

  • bought 5

  • Thanks! Same bought 5 as well! Was going to wait it out until BF/CM sales but this is awesome pricing

Are they bright enough for use in the kitchen and living room only mentions 600 lumins.

    • +1

Depends how many lights you have, how big your rooms are etc. I've got a total of 7 (2 kitchen, 1 over sink, 4 in the large adjacent living room) and find it more than enough. Spacing wise, I did a straight replacement of old halogens, and found the brightness similar, plus I now enjoy having the ability to easily dim them or change colour temp depending on time of day/mood etc.

  • Does the white adapter box small enough to be pushed through the 900mm hole?

    Also is it RGBW setting?

    • +1

No RGBW, just cool/warm white and in between. The box is easy to push through a 900mm hole. My challenge was reaching the sockets in the roof to plug them in.

      • +1

I do hope you both meant 90mm, not 900mm :-)

        • +3

The box is easy to push through a 90mm hole. I haven't tested a 900mm, but I'll see if I can find a hole saw that large and report back.

        • Correct. I meant 90mm

    • RGBW are available end of the month, but they're almost $100 per fitting!

      • +1

Where did you find out that? - Edit: just found them at JB Hi-FI - Now the question is do I replace my 50 exsisting hue downlights??

        • +2

I reckon I'll go white ambiance throughout the house and save wrgb for the media room only.

I've got wrgb in quite a few lamps and 99% of the time I have them set to a shade of white :/

          • @bataleon: Its nice to have the ability to do colour scenes thru the house, especially for xmas time

      • +2

Dang! It'll be difficult to pass CFO approval for sure! Unless, ask for forgiveness than permission tactics….

      • not much different in price to the bulbs tho, especially if you using the entertainment feature with hue app on android tv

    • 90mm. I find it best to get in the roof and have someone pass them up through the hole.

    • +1

900mm or 90cm is a big hole, you won't have any issues getting things thru there

      • Thanks for your reply.

The box on my current LED stated "85mm dimmable downlight"; do you think I will be able to 'stretch' the current cutout hole to put this Hue LED light?

        • +1

is that 85mm cut out? The box itself is pretty narrow, and shouldnt have much issues, if you need to cut the hole bigger you can get a downlight kit for your drill from bunnings

        • +1

These are 90mm and generally a 92mm hole is cut to allow a few mm clearance to slide it in/out without hassle.

If your current LED is 85mm, it's likely the hole is slightly bigger and you should be able to carve the hole a few mm bigger in diameter with a utility knife, jab saw, dremel, etc.

Thanks OP. Bought two more to put in the kid's playroom so they can turn the light on and off themselves. Have some in the main bedroom, lounge and kid's bedroom and they've been great. They are a bit expensive compared to standard downlights though.

  • Bunnings will price match Amazon on Hue products

  • +1

I initially started with nue RGB downlights….. paired well with hue but jittery and flashed between colours and not great RGB colours anyway. Returned and have been slowing buying these. They're amazing. Always work. No problems. May by a few more and finish the house

    • Was very tempted by Nue but heard similar stories so in the end opted for Hue peace of mind.

    • I havent had any issues with the nue downlights, and have a bunch of them

      • Mine
        flickered between scenes.
        Colours were wrong
        Blinked on and off

I ordered 8 and all were the same. Maybe a bad batch?

I had some hue ones at the same time and in comparison the hue was much smoother to operate and worked better with the dimmer switch

        • +1

Not as good as hue bulbs but does the job good enough for my requirements with colours and cheaper

  • +2

I've successfully had JB HiFi match on these. Kitted out my whole apartment after my dodgy wifi made LifX too frustrating. I also wanted something with physical light switches (I don't have neutral wires so can't change my current switches). Hue isn't cheap but it's very reliable, which is important when living with non-techhy family who have very low tolerances for tech glitches.

That said, I did have a disastrous period two weeks ago when the dimmer switches refused to connect to lights (oddly, the motion sensors were fine). Restarting the Bridge etc didn't help. Resolved itself in a couple of days but that was a bit disappointing.

    • For a little more would be better getting these hue ones
