Full Tower Case for 8+ HDDs

On my desktop PC, I currently use a Cooler Master CM 690 III.

I'm upgrading the internals this month (from Intel Gen4 to Gen11) and have decided to upgrade the case as well to accommodate 7+ HDDs and 1 SSD.

I can't seem to find any that meet my requirements (and budget).

The current case cost me $140+ a few years ago and I'm hoping to find a large one with the capacity I need, without the large price tag as well.

Any suggestions?

I'm not into anything fancy,

Fractal Design Define R6, Define XL R2, Meshify 2, Meshify 2 XL, Define 7, Define 7 XL, Node 804 Mini
you'd have to buy extra HDD trays as it doesn't come with the that many but these all support from 8 up to 18 HDD's

probably more but these are all that i know of right now.
I have a define r6 for my plex server great cases.

  • The CM690 III is a classic. I had one of those too. Currently happy with a Corsair Carbide and that will probably be my next case too.

Cases under $150 have changed to 2 x 3.5" HDD bays in favor of SSDs and front watercooling support. There are Fractal and Silverstone cases that have at least 8 x 3.5" HDD bays but are $200-$500.

I've got one of these approx $200 Silverstone units with an icy box 5.25" bay for 6x 2.5" hot swap SSDs as well as the stock 8x 3.5" hot swap bays

Airflow is awful for CPU/GPU as it is all focused on the drives, clearance for CPU coolers and especially GPUs is awful, but as a server case with hot swap bays that takes an ATX board rather than mATX, with it hidden away in a spare room it is excellent

By the sound of it you've got all your storage in your main rig instead of separating them and accessing it over gigabit or better, so probably not what you're looking for unless you decide to split your stuff between a main rig and a secondary like I have (you could reuse your 4th Gen bits for the data storage unit - this thing of mine has an i7 3930k early HEDT thingy on an Intel branded ATX board in it, but with one of those SAS cards with SATA breakout cables to manage the all the drives)

    • That is a nice case :D
