Price Guarantee Insurance being removed from Credit Cards

Just looked at 2 of my credit cards (St George and Macquarie), it looks like the section on price guarantee has been removed?

It price guarantee insurance slowly being phased out? What are the alternatives?

Ozbargain….. get the lowest price before you buy…. 😀

Stalk OzB by keeping eye on “Live” page.

  • I reckon that's for new applications?

  • I would think they'd have to inform u if they're changing anything? Double check your emails in case an announcement of some sort made it's way to spam folder.

Otherwise perhaps that change would be applicable for new applicants only

The price guarantee was useless with St George. It needed to be from a paper catalogue within 75 days of purchase over a certain value (difference of $75 or more). Tried to claim twice and both times were unsuccessful. The insurance was backed by Allianz.

This is a race to the bottom. People can expect more rewards to be removed going forward from 2022.

They can pry my 28D PP from my cold, dead hands!

Now go and watch Mebank being raped into bits and pieces. No real problem. Our BSB has 6 digits so there is room for competition.

28 Degrees is probably the only good price protection left, and grandfathered for existing customers only. I'll NEVER cancel that card, at least not until such a time as price protection is removed for existing customers or I hit the lifetime claim limit ($20k)

    • didn't know that was a thing!

  • It's becoming clear that it's back to the future on credit cards … rewards, etc. are being eroded/removed very rapidly at the moment. The airline FF schemes are of course all there, but based on my travel habits these have become next to worthless. I'm shopping around for a new card with a high value rewards scheme that can be used on either straight cashback or at least supermarket GCs. It used to be that you could effectively just get 1% back with a few bonuses on top. Hard to find better than about 0.5% these days and going backwards.

    • but then everyone will flock away from credit cards and the banks won't get income

    • Kogan credit card is the one for 1% return. A great card for free.

  • I still have the Coles Mastercard PP Insurance & it works well!

    • Is this still available?
I’m needing a decent Price Protection policy as the Westpac PP is useless.
