  • Nest mini 30 bucks

  • How is it better the the mini?

    • +2

It's better than the original mini (better sound) but I find the New 2nd gen mini to be better again.

      • +1

You're saying the new Nest mini sounds better than this one? wow.. (not challenging you, genuine question)

        • +2

Yeah, i found the sound clearer personally.

  • +1

Shame I already have google home hubs/devices in every room including deck and garage, one unplugged with nowhere to put it.

Sadly the Hue colour bulbs seem to be out of stock would have loved a few spares.

    • +2

Why don't you have more than one in a room? Sync them in a group. Profit?

      • +1

        Don't give me any ideas….

        • Why not combine two in a Stereo pair?

  • Any real improvements over the Home and the Nest? I know this one is the older version.

    • ? This is the Home. Do you mean how does it compare to the newer Nest Audio? Nest Audio has way better sound, but I really like the design of this old Google Home. Touch controls are nice, and I can’t see any difference in speed/function.

    • -2

This one can do less by it'self, it needs to contact google for things that Nest devices don't have to. It makes them slower for , as an example. turning your lights on and off

  • +3

    Google Home Max FTW! :-)

    RIP

    • +1

Yes very strong, full, clear sound on the Max when it’s above 50% volume. Especially nice when paired in stereo mode.

      • Agreed! I have two of them and they absolutely boom in my 2 bedroom apartment. Such a shame they discontinued them and downsized as they truly are a fantastic set of speakers, especially in stereo.

  • Careful if you're buying the 1m strip extensions. EB gave me the older gen strips and weren't compatible with the current gen strips.

    • Refund time

  • OK, Google, why do I need a Google Home?

    • +1

So they can get even more data from you?

    • +1

To control your Harmony hub. However, harmony discontinued :(

      • +2

Oh what? No….at least they are still updating devices…whew!

      • Yeah I was devastated when I heard the news. No-one else in the market around that price range and for diy. Who knows how long they will keep updating the devices too.

        • I negged you by accident. Sorry.

    • +1

Useful device with a toddler in the house: "Hey Google, make the sound of a garbage truck" - "Hey Google, play Hot Potato by The Wiggles" - "Hey Google, play baby sleeping music" - "Hey Google, transfer the music to the toddler's room" - "Hey Google, what's the weather today [when dressing him for daycare]" - "Hey Google, switch off the TV that the toddler just found the remote for" - etc

  • I just want the lights that I can connect to my TV to project the average colour from on screen behind the wall. Is there any economical way to do this? I've only seen units go into the hundreds of dollars….

    • There is an app that does it from your phones camera but nowhere near as good, cost me around $1,000 to do it with hue lights.

  • +1

Are we saying that the latest mini has a better sound quality than this?

    • In my experience, it does not. The Nest Mini does support stereo pairing, something I am not so sure the Home supports.

    • I doubt it, I think it's just got better sound quality than the old mini

  • +2

I have a google mini… I gave up on the thing.. It never listens to me. It is like having a wife all over again :D
