interesting tool, never really found chains good for cutting small stuff but i guess it being clamped might help (or just jam up and stop)

    • Black & Decker Pecker Wrecker

  • Ahh look at the pictures on how your use this thing!
Corded plus requires two handed use..

power of a chainsaw.. definitely not something you want to 1 hand..

looks awesome, if only they did a pole version at a similar price. Neighbour has a really annoying leopard tree on their property that overhangs our property. Every slight breeze and my driveway is covered in pods and leaves. Wanted to lop it all back and chuck it all in a pile (neatly) in front of their place.

    • I thought that tree was called a Cougars Bush…..

Bought a similar thing from the Masters closing down sale, older design that allowed for an extension handle (that I got free cos the checkout person had nfi and I had the last one with no shelf labeling for it…)

Works fine, although I usually just use my cordless chainsaw now.

I have one of these and it works really well with plenty of grunt for its size its a couple of years old now
cuts whatever fits in the jaws very safe with twin trigger switches has never kicked back once
still on original chain and i use vegetable oil in it instead of chain bar oil so i can use the wood for cooking/smoking
the main reason i went for this is the convenience of not having to worry about fuel mixing and it sitting and getting stale or not having to rely on having charged batteries or them lasting for more than 20 minutes going the battery route
the only down side if there is one is the extension lead

I have one too, and 100% agree with LnP's excellent description above

      • And on another quick note this thing is quiet so you wont have any problems with neighbors complaining about noise
Its either on or off not idling like a noisy stinky two stroke

    • Have had one of their earlier models. I have chain saws but this is a fantastic tool for home. Worth every cent! And reliable. My saw is now 8 years old and goes like new.

    • What kind of vegetable oil?

      • +1

        Canola Oil
You could probably use any edible oil if you wanted i went the cheapest option
it uses a little bit more than chain bar oil as its thinner but at that price per liter who cares
Just make sure its out of reach from mice

How the hell did they get a whole alligator into that?

    • +1

      Nano particles

      They're smaller than crocodiles

  • I was given this as a gift and at first I thought it was stupid, but it's really proved itself over the years. I climbed up a massive fig tree and pruned it back using this. I wouldn't have felt safe or secure using a chainsaw to do it

Revolutionary new cutting tool with chainsaw cutting performance in an easy to use and much less intimidating form

Some little known trivia for you. The Texas Alligator Powered Lopper Massacre opened in cinemas in 1972, but was a dismal flop. Audiences notably thought it was a slasher comedy, with the garden tool of the title appearing amusing and un-intimidating, which was not the desired effect sought by the film's director.

However, seeing the potential in the concept, director Tobe Hooper plagiarised large parts of the film, effectively re-making the film with a new garden tool, the so-called "chainsaw", which up until then was considered far too intimidating to use as a film prop and plot device.

In 1974, The Texas Chainsaw Massacre opened in cinemas, shocking audiences with the horror of the "chainsaw". It remains a cult film to this day, and was only made possible by the ill-fated attempt to horrify audiences two years earlier with a power tool in a much less intimidating form, the Alligator Powered Lopper.

I am also a cinephile and enjoyed that TIL bit. Thanks, you wonderful person!

  • Alligator Powered!! I'd like to see that!

    • It's really snappy.

    • I wonder how long 1 alligator lasts and where you get new alligator to replace used one

  • Power Source ‎Battery powered

The pictures show a power cord attached to one handle.

Is this battery or mains powered?

  • I don’t need it…but damn, that’s a sexy bit of kit there!

  • Is here anyone who uses a chainsaw and has a positive opinion on this?
It seem to be a trade-off and am so genuinely surprised by the positive reviews here - feel I must be mistaken.
The clamping motions just seem unintuitive and I cannot imagine how unsafe this is to use whilst on a tree or a ladder when it requires two hands to hold and use and the operator must be vertically inline with the branch or risk overbalancing.
The standing/holding position for use would seem to require the operator to stand with both legs parallel, lean forward and extend arms out then push the handles together to close the jaws. If the jaws are not applied at 90 degrees to the branch the max cutting width is reduced. A chainsaw has none of these problems and a more comfortable and stable standing position.
Seriously not trolling but wouldn't those cheap small battery operated chainsaws be a better alternative product?

    • I treat it more as a powered pair of shears and not a chainsaw. Two different tools for two different purposes. Also, the second tool you linked to look like a dud. I bought something similar but a reciprocating saw. It was totally useless and had zero power to cut anything.
