$1000 65" TV New or 2nd Hand ?

My Aldi dumb 65" TV has died after 4 years .

I tend to watch 50% downloaded TV shows that are only 720 or 1080p the rest of the time it is Stan or netflix.

I am looking at spending $1000 on a 65" smart TV , I know with my budget I will have to look at the very bottom of the market for a new TV.

I have been offered a used Panasonic TH-65GX850A for $1000 it is just under 2 years old , is it worth getting a used good TV or a new low end budget TV ?

Wait for the next Aldi special buy for TVs and get a Chromecast with Google TV to convert it into a smart TV.

Problem with used is no warranty. I have just purchased a Hisense U7G 65" for a bit over $1000 ($1195) from JB HIFI. Has a 3 year warranty. So far been quite happy, the streaming works well, easy to navigate menu options, etc. The remote has one button access for the popular streaming apps. The have the next model down for $1095. I believe that the TCL's are the same 3 yrs. I have had a few Hisense TV's and no problems so far and they review pretty well. If you want brand name they also have the Sony X7000G 65" for the same price but only has 1 year warranty (although you can also get an extended warranty from them for under $150)

Going back to ALDI seeking compensation under Australian Consumer Law is the first thing you should be doing.
4 years for ANY television is less than the generally acceptable lifespan IMHO, unless it's been on 24/7.
You'd still need your receipt of course.

4yrs on an expensive TV is crap…
4yrs on a cheap Aldi one is on par.

I'm on the record as previously being disappointed that our two Made in Japan Panasonic Plasma TV's only lasted us 9 years and 10 years. I was expecting 10 years minimum.

I'd expect 5 years minimum on any TV and I feel like I'm being generous!
Its just environmental vandalism if 4 years on such a major piece of difficult/impossible to recycle electronics is "acceptable".

        • I wouldnt expect one of those $150 TV's you buy at the post office to last 10yrs at all would you? IMWO no chance.

but I'd expect a 1000+ one to last. I've never paid a grand+ or more for a TV.

Having said that paying large$ doesn't guarantee quality or lasting.

          YMMV.

Peters v Panasonic determined that the lifespan of a TV is 8 years! That is a good case law to quote.

how about this? Though a bit out of budget

Black Friday is coming, great time to buy a TV :D

    • how about this?

Free express post for that eBay listing. I can't imagine anyone trusting Australia Post with anything expensive. They'll ship it back and forth between mail centres for a few weeks, then it'll get stuck somewhere for another few weeks, then they'll deliver it to the wrong address. And that's if you're lucky.

      • Just had a look, seems like it’s DHL who’ll be doing the delivery as shown on the cart. I bought from Sony eBay store last year and they called me a few days after order placed to arrange a day for delivery then the courier came another 3 days later

        • I had my Sony eBay TV delivered by DHL.
It was faulty and after weeks of being dicked around by Sony, I escalated to eBay who forced through the refund.
The TV was picked up for return by Toll on a prepaid consignment.

Hisense 65Q8. Best bang for buck, but last year's model. Went on sale for around $988 recently.
