I know Australia is not a big fan of Halloween, especially Trick or Treat, but surely you will watch a horror movie or two.
Hereditary is one of the best and is re-watchable.
Unpopular opinion, slasher movies, like Scream or Saw, are not horror movies. The antagonists are humans. Also, Casper and Ghost are not horror movies even though there are ghosts in tnem.

If you have watched too many horror movies it will take a lot to scare you as an adult but scare I did watching a korean horror movie called The Wailing.

I watched Poltergeist as a kid… gave me nightmares, for basically the entire rest of my childhood.
Mine would definitely be Sexy Beast, if that counts. Is as close to a real life horror movie as I could relate to

Hereditary is indeed great
From the old ones, I remember Carpenter's "Prince of Darkness" scared the crap out of me when I was a kid and still creeps me out thinking about it. Great soundtrack too.

I think the soundtrack is better than the film, I remember getting the LP and still have it years before we got a local release of the film.
The music had such tension that when I was home alone I would play it and it would scare the shit out of me.
The movie had potential but never really got to move into the direction it should have, mind you Carpenter made this on a shoe string budget, I think he was more comfortable going back to grass roots than having the pressure of something like The Thing on his shoulders.
