RAM Ordered from Amazon US via AU Has Been with AusPost Syd since 3rd Oct

So … my tale of woe

27th Sept - Purchased RAM on Amazon.com.au - "Sold by Amazon US", paid for expedited, 370 AUD, dispatched same day.

3rd Oct - AusPost confirm they have it in Sydney (wow, I'M in Syd!) - "Expected Thursday 07 Oct 2021 – Tuesday 12 Oct 2021*" (easy guess what the asterix is for).

Then trigger words like: "rescheduled" and "AUSSIE_POST_STD" and gradually extending "Expected by" dates (been "Expected 20 Oct 2021" for a while now) appear on Amazon account.

I chat numerous times with Amazon support, but they are USE-LESS.
I've been told a mgr will be emailing me. But nope.
I've emailed official support email with details, nope.

18 Oct - Lodge case with AusPost "… items can arrive within 5 - 15 days of the expected date … COVID-19 impacts … We’ll monitor this delivery until Tue 2 Nov . If it doesn’t arrive by then, we’ll begin investigating. No need to submit another enquiry".
Wow.
So lodging case achieves literally nothing, and if it's missing for another month'ish then they'll, maybe, keep an eye out for it. WTH do they do with mail if you don't lodge a case!?

REASONS

I ordered ram, coz it was the specific type I needed (supporting 64gb in Legion 5, ryzen 7), and >$150 cheaper than similiar (slower) ram in Aus.

I did everything I could before I got it to ensure I wouldn't end up in AusPost backlog. Research, chatting to Amazon. At end of the day I got nothing definitive but looked like I'd get DHL, not AusPost.

I paid the most extra I could for expedited shipping, and even contacted Amazon again immediately after buying to insure I didn't get AusPost, asking if I could even upgrade again to ensure.

Long story short - nope, nope, "it's all automated".
I have no evidence that paying for expedited made any difference whatsoever.

And, yes, I did obvs end up with AusPost.

I'm actually suddenly moving, 2 weeks, and have no confidence it will show up.
I get theres' a backlog, and would bloody pick it up in a heartbeat - wouldn't that help AusPost!?
I've spent so much time with Amazon that I'm confident they either really can't do anything, by design, and most definitely don't care.

Any tips on what to do!?

It's luck of the draw. Had an Amazon UK order arrive in 5 days flat this week via AusPost. Still have a Melbourne -> Sydney order stuck since Sept 27th with AusPost too.

Not much you can do aside from a waiting game. You should be able to setup a temporary redirect with AusPost so all mail going to old address gets routed to new one. Good practise to do anyway.

    • Yep, waiting game it is.
Might you have any experiences with amazon packages redirecting to parcel lockers?

      • I use AusPost parcel lockers as much as I can as have one conveniently nearby. Best thing ever.

Amazon happily delivers to them and you get 48 hours to pick them up anytime 24 hours a day else it goes to post office to pickup for 2 weeks. Brilliant service.

Read the other 50 threads complaining about delays in recent weeks and you'll have all your answers.

    • Or, type something useful. Here. Maybe?

I had a similar experience with a parcel coming from Europe — DHL got it here within 3 days, then it was handed over to AusPost and disappeared into a black hole on the 8th October. Not a single status update since then, and like yours my enquiry was closed by AusPost saying I need to wait another 3 weeks (15 business days) before they will investigate.

Weird thing is that local and other overseas parcels have been reasonably quick to deliver via AusPost, so I don't know what happened with this one. Definitely wasn't held up by customs/ABF as it had already cleared customs by the time it went missing.

BTW with Amazon deliveries from overseas, I find they almost always end up handing over to AusPost for the final leg of the delivery. So there's no avoiding the backlog, unfortunately.

I've had other O/S packages (thinking >$150) sent to door by DHL, I think it's pretty random, but can't estimate %'s that end up with AusPost from O/S.

I suspect it might be a package size thing.

    Yes annoying.

I had multiple items in one order shipped to me in 3 boxes. All arrived in Melbkurne at the same time, but only 2 were progressed further which i received. Third is still 'processing' and scarily for me, it contains the most expensive item of my order.

A separate order is still processing since start of October.

Just luck of the draw and hopefully not a case of them disappearing for good.

Standard atm mate. I have customers ship us products back to us for repairs all the time, and recently have had some things arbitrarily stuck at auspost customs for 5-6 weeks

    • Yeah, crazy times for crazy folks.

I had something hit our shores then disappear for well over 3 months. It was delayed so long it disappeared from the MyPost tracking list.
Just lost in a warehouse or truck or shipping container I guess, and randomly turned up one day.
There is not much point contacting them really, they have no way to find it for you.

    • These comments are getting downright dystopian (but yeah :( ).

  • What numbers/letters does your tracking number start with? Great you tried to get a premium service, auspost or not, however expedited shipping is still just bulk economy post with slightly better processing.

Picking up from a parcel facility is not possible. Finding one small package in what could be thousands for the one sort is near impossible.

    • Tracking : 7BJ3*****

      Yeah, I hear ya.

      • Sounds like it was just part of a bulk consignment.

When the CTO receives the bag of parcels Into the facility the 50 odd articles tracking becomes "arrived at facility" without having to be individually scanned.

Sounds like your article never made it into the bag/bag was damaged in transit/ article was damaged by a machine, who knows but I dare say it's not coming.

Definitely not a premium service though with that tracking number.

        • Was this not how it should have been coz: expedited shipping.

          Is this Amazons f'up?

Sounds like you either wait or pull the pin and see if you can get a refund. I'd wait if I really wanted it and do as the other commenter said and have mail redirected before you move to new address. Sometimes it's just best to fork out the big dollars and find in local retail just to avoid this postal nightmare. Click and collect. You did all you could. Good luck

Yeah, totally planned to get local pickup, couldn't find it, and then couldn't even find similar for less than 150 more. Live and learn.

  • At the very least won't Amazon refund you the expedited delivery fee?

    • Yeah but 15 aint much compared to the 370 AUD for something I haven't even got yet.

As an aside, for the record Amazon AU in my experience have been a total dumpster fire. So many issues, the only reason I've continued using them (for small purchases) is that if they don't turn up, they give you a refund.

But sheesh, with the amount of issues, it's hard to get ones head around how it's a viable business model.

  • UPDATE: requested a refund, got it without a breath. They've known it was missing for weeks and denied it, presumably waiting for me to either give up, forget or demand a refund.

    Livid.
    Never dealing with them again.

My review here, just one of 1158 other experiences, sums it up: https://www.productreview.com.au/reviews/69dae9f3-f0ee-48b1-…

    • Amazon shipped 415 million packages in July, topping its three-month average between April and June

they lost less than 1000 out of 415,000,000… pretty good job I reckon

      PS your link doesnt work.

      • That def does not mirror my experiences.
Not just with this, but all orders over the last year'ish.

Local couriers utterly sub par (lie about leaving in non-existent "mail room" amongst other lies, or never turn up, or late), and stuff . . getting tired talking about it tbh . ..

        • I use Amazon quiet a bit, and have the best results using the Amazon Parcel lockers. Stuff seems to arrive and i haven't had any crazy delays/missing in over 100 parcels.

          • @Gumster: I have done so too, and no issues when I did. Didn't occur to me that'd make a difference, but maybe worth using them as policy (only way is up!).

You do know about the backup of container ships in the US? It's been all over the news for a while. I had an order from the states - well over 6 weeks. I chilled because I knew what was happening. It even sat in Australia for a while - so Australia is also having it's own problems still with all the extra delivery work.

Didn't know, also not relevant - I clearly detailed that mine got to oz from US in handful of days.

I'm not throwing a tantrum about "shipping delays", I'm throwing a tantrum ( ;) ) about the many, many points in this process where things could have been totes different, not least of which is the lack of shipping options - which they clearly desperately need (take my money!), now more than ever.
Maybe the long story short is: they're using a US logistics model in oz, where it just does not translate the same.

Also, routinely training your support agents to lie, misdirect, stall, etc, etc, well, just aint a good vibe, man.

  • Well, I got a similar experience on an overseas parcel shipped via International Express Air.
Arrived in Sydney on 8th Oct, stocked with Australia Post until 20th October. Considering it is one of the most premium services, the experience is quite unpleasant.
But considering covid, the shortage of staff, and the increasing amount of parcels, there is not much Aupost can do.
