[Pre Order] Google Pixel 6 128GB $792 + 2500 Telstra Plus Points @ Telstra

2160

Ok so bear with me. The Pixel 6 is on special for preorder on the Telstra Rewards store/app for 286,000 points (going to 355,000 on 12th nov). if 355,000 points is equal to $999 (cost of the pixel 6) then each point is worth about 0.3c.

So 2,500 points is $7.04 worth but you can get the pixel for $792 + 2,500 points. Bout $200 off.

This works for most of the Pro range too.

            • @eug: Looks like we're getting mixed messages, there was another user who said chat said it was locked as well… Hm…

              • @shrewdster: Seeing that carriers haven't locked non-prepaid phones for over a decade, I'd bet that it's unlocked.

  • Any reviews on the pixel 6

    • +1

      its good

    • +3

      It's Don

    • -2

      it's average

      • -1

Nothing to write home about compared to previous generation. More sameness than what everybody anticipated.

        • same here.
all specs are pretty average, the camera is about the same as the average this or last year flagship
the screen is terrible and has poor quality, android 12 has lots lots lots of bugs

I've received my pixel 6 from google yesterday.

          • @rwt:

the camera is about the same as the average this or last year flagship

Are you just looking at specs on paper?
Here's a blind comparison between the Pixel 6 Pro and the iPhone 13 Pro.

tl;dw: They're both very close, the Pixel beats the iPhone in some areas and the iPhone beats the Pixel in others.

            • @eug: im looking at the photos from my current phone and pixel. I did lots of them yesterday to compare the phones.
there are some differences in details but only for the crop and only for nighttime photos.

as you mentioned - sometimes Pixel beats my phone in some areas, but at the same time its very often when pixel making unrealistic photos with different colors or with no shadows

and again - there are no huge differences, they are very close.

              • @rwt:

and again - there are no huge differences, they are very close.

Yup, but seeing that they beat the just-released iPhone 13 Pro in some areas, I wouldn't consider it in the same area as last year's flagship phones.

It can probably be considered the average of this year's flagships because realistically there's only 3 at the top (iPhones, Galaxys, Pixels) and they all excel in different areas.

                • @eug: i have oppo x2 pro, it was released in March 2020
regarding dxomarks it has 126 points (camera rank), iPhone has as far as I remember 131, s21 ultra 121.

I was expecting some new magic from the new pixel. but it is just an average phone. yes it's cheaper than flagships, but that's it

                  • @rwt:

The thing with numbers on paper or technical tests is that they may not translate well to reality. I bought the Mate 20 Pro because of its highly-touted camera. Whilst they were technically good, lots of my photos didn't look right. White balance seemed off, HDR looked wrong, sometimes exposure looked a bit off. A technically-good photo doesn't always mean an aesthetically-good photo.

It had a higher DXOMARK score than my Galaxy S9 but I preferred the S9's photos.

I was expecting some new magic from the new pixel. but it is just an average phone.

Seeing that it's up there with the best of the best, maybe you're expecting too much from a phone camera. You should check out the Sony Xperia Pro I - if you put in the effort to use it like a proper camera, the quality definitely beats flagship phones with the same focal length.

                    • @eug: just wrong expectations vs reality

Sony Xperia Pro I - well 2,5k aud looks too much. I'm waiting for a price confirmation for the Au market
and I had sony's phones in the past - they were pretty bad except their amazing design

                      • @rwt:

It's definitely going to be way too much… it's a very niche phone just like the Xperia Pro which was even more expensive.

and I had sony's phones in the past - they were pretty bad except their amazing design

Yeah I had a few too, I loved the design but their camera processing was really lacking. You'd never have thought they owned a very successful camera division! It looks like they're finally talking to each other now though. About time.

      • for the money, it's actually quite good. Amazing new CPU and great camera.

  • +2

128GB pro requires min 6,900 pts (plus $1080)

  • +4

    FYI…

    Google pixel 6 pro 128GB = 6900 points + $1080

Google pixel 6 pro 256GB = Out of stock

    Google pixel 6 pro 512GB = 2500 points + $1392

And if you have more points as stated in this post you can get further discounts.

  • Question is this a once off payment for the pixel or can you pay it off over say a 12 period

    • +1

Yes, you can choose outright/repayment plan

  • +1

    Pixel 6 Pro for $1,080 ($219 off) or Pixel 6 for $792 ($207 off)…

  • I guess the worst part is that buying phones from Telstra even if buying outright costs a credit check :(

    • +1

Not from Telstra Plus I don't believe? I've never been credit checked when buying anything from the Plus Rewards store.

      • Oh right, not the Telstra plus so this is even better.

    • Internal Telstra credit check, from what i was told, when getting the S20 FE 5G last Oct, from the JB Hi-Fi pre-sale. Surprised when it got approved TBH…😷

  • So if you get the phone through here is it locked to Telstra?

    • +2

      shouldn't be

  • Hmmmm now the big question, pixel 6 or pro

  • Hmm tried to put the order, keep getting
    Something went wrong
We're sorry, but we’re currently experiencing technical issues.
    Please try again later.

  • managed to place an order on a Pro 6 Black

  • Out of stock now, only the sunny 128GB left

  • all are out of stock except sunny for the Pro
cancelled my google order, got the Pro 6 for 1050

  • cheers op, picked up a pro sunny 128GB, cancelling the officeworks order now. Didn't really need the speaker.

  • I just bought 2, thanks OP

  • +1

How do I link my Boost mobile service with my Telstra Plus account to start earning points from recharges? I have searched everywhere but I cannot find how to do that. Thanks.

    • Seems to be done automatically.
Assuming you have a Telstra Plus account with the same email as the one registered to Boost

  • +1

Picked up the Sorta Sunny 128GB which was the one I was after, bargain. Thanks OP!

    • +1

Well google should be paying us for capturing all our data imo. A good deal though! With all these pixel deals before the phone even comes out, surely there will be huge discounts later too.

  • Is the phone unlocked? I have Telstra Plus via by NBN account but use Aldi for my mobile account.

    • -3

I just talked to chat support it is locked to telstra

      • +1

geez…disappointing but glad I saw this before dropping $1k on the pro.

        • -3

          Handset Unlocking cost as follows
$80 for devices never activated or only active for six months or less
$25 for devices activated for six months to 2 years

      • +2

I highly doubt it, dont think any non-telstra branded phones have been locked by them in a long time.

      • +1

They just told me if you purchase it outright its not locked to Telstra, confirmed it through phone call and chat.

        • +1

Telstra chat confirmed that the pixel 6 outright won't be locked.

        • -1

the chat rep I talked to told me that outright will also be telstra branded and locked but they will help unlock it. He can't confirm unlocking charge until you had the IMEI

          • +3

@nk10025: Yeah from what I could read nowhere said that it would be locked to telstra unless its on a contract. Either way I have chat proof now if they decide to ship it locked to them.

            https://i.imgur.com/6odU5hZ.png

          • @nk10025: I was told there would be no branding and the phone would arrive as provided by google.

        • They just told me if you purchase it outright its not locked to Telstra, confirmed it through phone call and chat.

Pretty sure they haven't locked phones since … 2008 2009? Apart from early iPhones; I think they were the last to be locked.

          • @eug: PrePaid ones are locked. I just went through world of hurt trying unlock parents one.

            • @Gandalf the Thrifty: Yes; I should have mentioned it here as I did in other comments. Only prepaid phones are locked because they're subsidising the cost of the phone. Non-prepaid phones have not been locked for over a decade.

  • -2

Can't really justify spending close to 1 grant for a phone, but if I waited 3-4 years, will the price drop to < $300, like the pixel 2?

    • +1

Then you won't even buy it because the tech is so old

  • Hi Guys,
Can anyone post their chat about the Telstra rep saying it is unlocked?
Then I can use that to get my set unlocked please?

  • 128 OOS already

  • -2

    Pixel 6 128GB better than my current S20FE 5G?

  • -2

Wish I knew this before I ordered mine from google… But then again probably worth $150 more without all the Telstra bloatware.

    • It's a Pixel…
If it comes with bloatware. Flash it to stock.

      • The previous pixels ive purchased from Telstra have never had bloatware. The only thing it installs Is the Telstra 24/7 app and that's usually because of the Telstra Sim.

      • -1

        Literally any android too.

      • If it comes with bloatware. Flash it to stock.

Or if that fails you could always add a random full stop into the middle of your sentence…

    • No bloatware according to Telstra chat.

  • +1

    @admin P6 Black 256GB is still in stock - $912 + 6100 points

  • +1

There is no way these are locked.

  • I was told the following:
"Either its purchased outright or on a monthly payment, it is locked with Telstra. There is unlocking fee to unlock it. If its below 6 months from the date of purchase, the unlocking fee is $80, if your request for the unlocking is more than 6 months, the unlocking fee is $25. But if you request for the unlocking after two years, there is no more unlocking fee."

  • Got my pixel pro yesterday. Such a great phone. Super impressed and fits in my pocket (just!)

    • With or without a case? 😀

      • +1

It has a Google standard case.b they fit really well. Still fits in pocket!

    • So huge, almost the size of my old nexus 7 tablet!

      • It is longer than a nexus 7 tablet, but the tablet is 2 and a half times wider!

        • It is longer than a nexus 7 tablet, but the tablet is 2 and a half times wider!

Hmm, how is it longer? Or even anywhere close.
          Is this size comparison wrong?

          • @eug: I got the dimensions from different sources so mine might be wrong. They were:

            Nexus 7: 120.00 x 198.50 x 10.50mm

            Pixel 6 pro: 163.9x75.9x8.9 mm

  • Did anyone else who purchased one get any notification email or otherwise of their order? I bought around 1pm and haven't received anything. Spoke to chat and they said I should receive something within 24 hours. Seems quite odd.

    • +1

Received 1 email notification and a text this evening saying it's getting delivered. Ordered pixel 6 128gb

    • +1

I was worried about it too as I didn’t receive any confirmation. But they said the order was confirmed thru chat and I think they just gave me a tracking number too not long ago. I wouldn’t worry.

  • How annoying, on this page it seems they still have stock

    https://www.telstra.com.au/mobile-phones/mobiles-on-a-plan/g…

  • Oh wow! 1-day delivery! Ordered it yesterday and got it this morning 8.30 am

    • Did you receive the tracking notification? I got the email of my upcoming estimate bill so far.

  • Dang, 1 day delivery. Quicker to get a new phone delivered from them than it is to sometimes get a response from their support chat.

    • Guessing it is not locked to Telstra ?

  • +2

My order is just a mess - first I've got chat support questioning whether I have an active service with telstra (which I didn't think was a requirement), and then they are telling me my balance is too low for the offer (they are quoting the balance after the 6000 points have been taken off).

They have already charged my credit card btw.

Reminds me why I don't want anything to do with Telstra.

  • +1

Anyone know if this works with their trade in scheme?

  • +3

Managed to call around a few stores, found stock and did the Telstra Rewards and Cash in person 👍 no need to purchase online!

    • Mate would you mind sharing the receipt or store name? I’m looking to get one as I missed ordering online.

      • Hey mate sorry for late response, called Doncaster store. They had a few in stock but that was a few days ago. Maybe people finally catching on

        • Cheers mate, I was able to get one from Melbourne Discovery Store.

          • @Uncleroger: What model and gb did you get? I was told they had no 256 or 512 pros.
