lol inflation https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/287665, looking at smartlocker sheds "on sale" the massive surge in RRP has made me decide DIY builiding from scratch is the go for me.

    • like Australian house prices, keeps doubling every few years.

Hey that's my post! :D I was going to post the same thing. Surely this price isn't a bargain!

As a review though the sheds still holding up strong and shipping was an easy process. There are some strange material choices (mild steel on the external door latch screws) but otherwise I'm happy… For the 2016 price at least

Can anyone comment on how these compare to ABSCO and Easy Sheds?

    • If it's anything like the 'easy'shed, which it looks like, you're getting what to pay for… a few sheets of tin, held together by some cheap c- channel, then screwed together wherever you can find two pieces that overlap. (That's because they're not pre-punched.)
After a bit of stuffing around with mine trying to get panels to line up somehow, I decided to mark it, drill it, and rivet it together. Even then, yes it was held together, but it's got the rigidity and structural integrity of a $2 plastic frisbee.
I was going to go by some metal bracing to try keep it square. But luckily mine's been screwed the width of the shed to a piece of timber dynabolted to the wall. Plus about another 8 dynabolts in the concrete holding the thing down, but mainly trying to keep the base of it square.

  • Keep in mind that you will need a concrete slab to put these on. A 50mm slab will probably cost you around $400 and half a day to do yourself, or $1000 for someone else.

    The price seems good.

There's a reason they are called cheap sheds we have one from this company and it was a nightmare to put together, not everything fits together right we had to make some adjustments be prepared to be frustrated but a good price if you're willing to go through the frustration of building it yourself bit by bit. Ahhhhhhh

    • Anyone that asks about these types of sheds I now advise that you need someone with some good building practice, and tools, to do it for you.
It probably took me a solid 8 hours to build one similar to the one listed here. By the time I put the walls together, stood it up, worked out there's just about no chance of using the supplied screws to get through overlapping sheets that don't sit flush, mark it, pull it down, drill it, put it up again, and rivet then #n thing together! 🤦‍♂️

  • I've got a very similar model recently almost of the same dimensions - 8ft x 4 ft. for $400 app
Spent around $180 for concrete bags and $30 for wooden blocks - to build rectangular slab base - 60mm
No iron/steel mesh needed ( as per bunnings employee )
Pouring the concrete slab is easy - may take 2 hours if you are alone.
Installing garden shed: You will need 3 friends / 4 hours and ofcourse 24 pack beer to finish the job.
Warning: These sheds are really small. May be fit for 1 big Lawn mower, 3-4 spades , 1 trimmer , and couple of other items and your garden shed is full
