    • I have my own gripes with massdrop/drop but the shipping time with a product like this isn't really a big issue. People were happily waiting many months for these so waiting even up to 4 months for these on sale would be worth it imo.

I just want to also mention AliExpress shipping. The cheaper shipping options they offer will obviously take a long time since you are dealing with a small business most of the time. If you choose DHL on AliExpress it would be much faster but also much more expensive.

ITT: a bunch of people that think all an amp does is increase the volume.

This needs iterating: a headphone amplifier does not just increase the volume. It drives headphones better across their dynamic range to allow them to sound to their full potential. These headphones will sound dull and lifeless without one.

If you do not have an amp or plan to get one, do not buy these headphones. They will work through unamplified sources, but you are not getting your money's worth and you will likely be disappointed. There are much better options at this price range, such as the philips fidelio x4 or the beyer dynamic DT990 pro, as these are much easier to drive and will sound more dynamic out of unamplified sources.

  • How do you get free shipping?

When I go to checkout it says:

    Subtotal $210.00
    Shipping $15.00
    Total USD $225.00

    • There is no free shipping - are you using the "10off" coupon code in the cart rather than the $10 first purchase referral bonus?

Fanatstic sounding headphones , do yourself a favor and get some especially at this price.
No you don't need an amp , yes they will be quieter with no amp but there will be no difference in sound quality.
I purchased an expensive headphone amp on recommendation and was quite disappointed with the small improvement over just the standard headphone output , don't waste money on an amp , it sounds fantastic just from my PC headphone output and goes plenty loud.

    • Which headphone amp did you try?

        Beyerdynamic A2 Chinese clone

So you used a cheap headphone amp with bad voltage and distortion reviews with a headphone that scales well.
You would have to try better ones at addictedtoaudio/minidisc/etc before you can say you are disappointed with the small improvement of expensive headphone amps.

          • @ValuexHunter: Exactly this.

People here have no idea what they’re talking about.

@ValuexHunter: Have you used or heard this amp , obviously not , it's a quality amp , I am an electronics tech and the circuit is sound with no design flaws , measured and tested by me also I just don't buy into the huge difference people claim with different amplifiers , there is no logical explanation for this unless the specifications vary wildly between amps ( I have designed and built a few) but any decent designed amp will provide quality sound with very little difference between amps , this applies to all types of audio amps , I think a lot has to do with how we all interpret sound differently and placebo.

The biggest difference and money best spent will always be on the speakers/headphones.

But back to topic , definitely worth getting the headphones , comfortable and great sounding headphones.

  • Basic qn here guys, hoping you can help.
I have a Harmon kardon stereo and presume this constitutes an "amp". Is this is correct?

Am guessing most ppl here are wanting to run from PC or phone..

    • Anything with a headphone output, is technically part headphone amp, even if its not the devices purpose. Without measurements its hard to say if your HK Stereo system will drive these to their fullest potential, but one would assume - since its an audio device - that it outputs more power compared to a PC or a Phone.

Yeah I think a lot of people want to run it from their PC or Phone, which is doable, but you would be listening to lets say 20% (if that) of what these headphones are capable off.

So yeah, you could get this and run it on anything. But your mileage will vary depending on your setup. But you can always upgrade later down the track, which is why its a dangerous rabbit hole.

  • So my HD 6xx arrived today. DHL took 3-4 weeks to deliver.

Also got the XLR Adapter and upgraded cables (and earpads).

Have to say through the balanced XLR out of a Schiit Jotunheim & Topping D50s DAC (Bifrost on the way soon) they are excellent. Have already replaced my trusty AKG Q701s. Was looking at upgrading to Planar Magnetic headphone that cost ~2k, but I don't see why. Bass is much nicer than the HD800s which I've heard in person and overall I think the combination of DAC, AMP, XLR out, cable and ear pads makes these really nice.
