Just came to buy a book from ANU Press (Australian National University) and saw all the ebooks in their catalogue are now free to download. No account registration required - just click the 'Download for free' button.

If you want a printed copy of any of these book, they cost between $40-$140.

      I tried using a download manager on PC (grabbing only PDF files) but ended up with over 20k PDF's being downloaded

      Is Download All Download Manager the Android app one ?

      And what's best way to only download the books themselves and not every other document on the site ?

    I took an elective titled 'Piracy', didn't bother to read the description as it seemed fairly self explanatory. Turns out, it was not a course about pirates, nor intellectual property theft. It was a course about pirates in films, including the Princess bride and the Muppets.

  This has always been the case with ANU Press (previously ANU e-press) books. They have a print on demand option, which obviously costs money, otherwise they’re free to download or read online.

  Like most academic books, the audience for most of the titles is pretty limited (I co-wrote one of the chapters in at least one of the books on the site and I’m sure it’s mostly good as a cure for insomnia). But it’s a handy resource if you’re after something specialised.
