This might be good for my dog to sleep on? I agree that the tail is fairly off putting though haha.

    SAY NO TO RUGS

  • -1

    More like Urgh Australia!

I'm the same as some others - totally find with sheepskin laying around the house, but this… can't do it..!

  • +15

Thanks, a great housewarming gift for my vegan friend

    • -4

      Dang, that's funny.

      It's a brilliant joke, right?

How come nobody has thought of such a brilliant joke before? How about giving a fleshlight to a recently widowed friend?

      • +8

Actually, it would be akin to giving a fleshlight to your recently married friend…..

        • -4

A fleshlight to spice it up for both at the very beginning of your supposedly LAST sexual relationship doesn't sound that bad. Perhaps you meant a fleshlight gifted to a lady?

Anyway, I'm disoriented now. I thought it's about intactful situations that's going to embarass you in front of confused "friends"!

I must admit, though, I feel that Stinge Master imagines those friends and situations different.

      • I rated the joke, lol'd and gave Stinge Master an upvote aye.

        • -3

I have goosebumps while picturing someone cracking a smile at that.

Oh, to be a child again!

  • +5

Thanks - Bought 2. Most of the negative commenters have probably never been out into the bush and seen just how much of an abundance of roo's are out there. With no natural predators, its not surprising. We should be utilising them a lot more than we currently do.

    • As someone pointed out above, the dingo is a natural predator of the roo. You are right though, in almost all places where there are roos, dingoes have been unceremoniously wiped out.

  • where is vgan bootie?

    • -3

At 'Soul Foods'. And at the doctor's, seeking treatment for vitamin B12 deficiency (among others), general lethargy, etc.. Not worth the chase though … they tend to suffer from extreme fatigue.

      • +1

Doubt you'd be able to keep up carrying around all the extra cholesterol

        • Ahhh, you presume wrongly xtk. I eat mainly roo meat, which is extremely lean/low in fat and cholesterol.

  • +2

hope these are better quality than the ugg boots I bought from you
    used them indoors only

sadly they didn't last one winter

  • Not enough outrage here for my entertainment. We need something like this posted:

    https://www.carters.com.au/index.cfm/item/803196-a-koala-ski…

    • That square two across and two up from the bottom-left corner is clearly a koala skin. I can see the ears.

Some interesting read on kangaroo leather.

    • +1

Suprising to read an abc article that presented both sides. There was an emphasis on the against argument but overall a good read

  • +1

Note: does not come with attached nutsack - these are sold separately in souvenir shops with the inclusions.

  • How many are killed for one rug?

    • Hey Champ … is this a serious question? Please tell me it is, and tell me your approximate guess as to the answer.

      • Yes genuine question. Even if it is by product as in you are only using skin once meat industry throws away. I know there are people who eat kangaroo meat. For approximation see below answer from ozbaggins - done the math

        • Dude … look at the picture above the 'Go to Deal' text. Each rug is clearly the pelt of one roo. Or do you perhaps think they cut up a bunch of roo skins, then stitch them back together to make it look like it's the pelt of one roo?!? lol … you're a crack up Champ.

    • This is exactly 6.7 Roos stitched together

  • What tanning process is used and is there a massive Ugg label stitched on somewhere?

  • Bought a few for sending to China. Perfect new year gift.

  • Despicable company.

    • Great/patriotic company. Champions. Keep walking, evian.

      • I like animals alive, not turned into something you walk on. Move along animal abuser.

        • Waters, you are simplistically ignoring the fact that these roos would be culled regardless of whether their carcasses were used for meat and pelts. In fact, at least in Victoria (but not South Australia) they used to be left on the ground unused, because outdated red-tape prevented them from being used for anything. I believe that was changed relatively recently, and I think that change was long overdue.

Your 'issue' with roo rugs implies that you think that was a bad change. I.e. you preferred it when the culled roos were left on the ground unused. Is that right? Or have you simply posted an erroneous objection to roo rugs, when in fact what you object to is all roo culling? Even when it is for environmental reasons, and often for the greater good of the localised population of roos as a whole? If you are in fact against all roo culling, mount an intelligent argument stating why. Don't erroneously go after the guy at the end of the line selling the pelts. As the kids would say:

Hate the game, not the player.

          • @GnarlyKnuckles: I have equal hate for all who participate in animal cruelty. Imagine the outcry if I suggested skinning you dog.

            • @evian: Whoooooosh

            • @evian: "Imagine the outcry if I suggested skinning you dog."

Clearly, you'd need to sedate it first.

Elsewise, I imagine all that howling and yelping could be quite off-putting…

  • +2

No deal. I picked one up on the side of the road for free. Plenty still available.

  • rspca come on u got a job here

  • +1

I have a few roo rugs around the house. Great for the back of the couch, chairs, console tables etc. Add a nice level of warmth and is a cheap and efficient way to protect high traffic furniture without resorting to granny doilies

    • I would like to do this but I don't think it fits with my aesthetic.

  • +1

Christmas pressies for overseas rellies sorted

  • Ahhhh… What a cute deal. You got a snugly koala fur for my precious chi to chill out on? Thanks.

  • -1

Are these a byproduct or a primary product?

    • -1

What do you mean? These are made from roos that are culled for environmental (and sometimes animal welfare) reasons. The meat is used, and the fur is used. How do you determine whether the meat is the 'primary product' or whether the fur is? Is it based on which sells for the most money?

      • -5

For goodness sake if you don't know what the question means then either look it up or don't answer it.

        • +3

I know exactly what it means. I told you exactly what the PRIMARY reason is that they are killed for. Given that this primary reason is not for the meat or the fur (or indeed, any tangible 'product'), your question is to an extent unanswerable. Hence I asked you to clarify what you meant by it. It seems that you are not able to do so.

        • +2

For goodness sake don't ask a question if you aren't doing to accept the answer

  • +5

The photos of the rug are awful. It looks so sterile and creepy with the extremely bright background. Take some photos of it on a wooden floor in front of a fire perhaps?

  • +1

    Pretty sad

    • Here's a philosophical question for you xtk. Would you rather be farmed in a cage for 3 years, then crammed into a truck for a long journey somewhere, then led into a slaughterhouse, then shot, or would you rather lead a blissful free-range existence for up to 10 years, then get shot 'in the field' in the blink of an eye by an expert marksman with a sniper rifle who you never even saw?

If you think about it for about 10 seconds, you'll get where I'm going with that question.

      • -1

How about just living a life for whatever number of years without having to have that shitty options you just listed?

Here's a "philosophical" question for you GnarlyKnuckles. Would you rather be killed for skin or just hop WTF you want?

        • Yo pizza-man, re:

'How about just living a life for whatever number of years without having to have that shitty options you just listed?'

Your scenario relies upon a ludicrously fanciful/unrealistic situation in which all Australians unanimously decide that they are never going to eat meat again. I don't think anyone seriously believes that that is ever going to happen; even you.

My philosophical/hypothetical question relates directly to the real world that we all actually live in; not fanciful utopian ideals that are about as removed from reality as Puff the Magic Dragon.

          • -1

@GnarlyKnuckles: Cool, I bet people in feudalistic systems hundreds years ago would think the same about their 6-day work weeks and 90% "tax" to their owners. Perhaps they wouldn't, had they seen better, had access to knowledge etc. And yet, today you study, work less, live in the richest of the nations.

I get your thinking, I sometimes feel like that too. But I don't say such sad and bland things out loud.

      • The third option is the animal lives carefree for the entirety of its existence. Not every option has to end in abrupt death.

That said, this is probably a good deal to minimise wastage for those already being culled.

      • farmed in a cage for 3 years, then crammed into a truck

Are you under the impression this happens in Australia? Closest thing is battery-chooks for eggs.

        • Ah yes, it was a philosophical question, but I fully take your point on that manic. I think there's still sow stalls operating in Australia, though they are thankfully being phased out (and the pigs aren't in them for 3 years), and there's defo' still battery hens as you say; but again the battery chooks are killed before they have been in those cages for 3 years. Re other scenarios that currently operate in Australia, I guess it comes down to your definition of a 'cage'. Many pigs are not raised under what I would call 'free range' conditions; rather I would call their quarters cages. Not exactly 'sow stalls', but certainly not 'paddocks'/'free-range'.

The 'crammed into a truck' thing defo' still applies here in Australia, as do the other things I alluded to. Then there's the whole 'live export' abomination, which I simply cannot believe Australia still undertakes … but that was not part of my initial rant si I won't go there for now …

What I was ultimately getting at was that rather than any of the scenarios I've alluded to above (extended close confinement, battery hen-type conditions, sow stalls, slaughter-houses, live road transport, live transport by sea, etc.), I would rather live a free and natural existence into adulthood, then get shot dead instantly in my natural environment.

The animals in the former scenarios potentially undergo immeasurable and protracted suffering, as opposed to almost no suffering at all. Thant was the crux of my philosophical question.

            • @Emma444: I have of course reported you 'Emma444', you bottom-feeding catfish. Kindly leave this website and never return.

                • @Emma444: Hey 'Emma444' … does your mother know what you do for a living? She would be so ashamed if she did. How did your life reach this depth of absolute uselessness? You are like a human leach …

                    • @Emma444: I am genuinely interested in how someone loses absolutely all of their sense of self-worth; to the extent that all they can do is post spam on random websites. It is clearly some sort of psychosis. I suspect that you must be suicidal, if your life is so devoid of meaning that you are engaging in this type of child-like behaviour. PHONE A FRIEND, 'Emma444'. Please don't commit suicide tonight.

          • @GnarlyKnuckles:

Then there's the whole 'live export' abomination

yep. That one really bothers me.

Agree on your point. Nature is brutal, "red in tooth and claw", hunger, disease, injury, parasites and constant fear of predators.

But sympathy for other species is a Western Cultural Construct. Who are we to tell other cultures what values to have?
Islamic abattoirs are not torturing animals for fun, just indifferent to their suffering, as is all of nature except us.

All we can do is but meat and skins from Australian sources, where we know the animals were treated decently.

  • What's the approx weight of each of these?

    • -1

I'm intrigued Sandy. Why do you ask?!?

  • +1

Love how these are being advertised for halloween.

  • +5

nice, must have been scraped off the Hume Hwy somewhere

  • +2

Nah, can just pick one of these up beside the road any day I want…. Tanning's for posh city folk.

  • +1

These are from the pest kangaroo which got cull. It is better to use their parts than rotting in the wild.

  • +1

The fur isnt even nice as rug.

  • +1

Is this deal legit? Or just a roo mer?

  • Hey OP, can you please offer another sheepskin special? Thanks

      • Thank you - that is a great deal, bought.

PS. with the kangaroo pelt rug, does the average length include the tail or is it to the base of the tail? 130cm long including tail means these may indeed look a little on the smaller side of sizing :-)

Edit: just noticed you answered the same question below

The Rough Dimensions is 160cm (Long) by 75cm (Wide) from head to tail. 🦘🇦🇺

I thought this looked like a Stingray at first. It looks a bit like it.

    But poor Kangaroo.

  • +2

heh, you guys remember that Fat Pizza episode where the owner chases a kangaroo throughout the episode and he finally gets it with the chainsaw and uses it as meat for his pizzas?

  • -3

Are we supporting animal cruelty these days 🤦

    • -1

How is this animal cruelty yet you wanted to buy sheep skin footwear from this exact company?

  • +1

Are they supposed to be soft and do they smell?

  • Doesn't look big enough for most purposes.

However if you get three kangaroos ass to mouth it might work well in front of the coffee table.

  • +1

    Gross.

  • +1

this is weird and im no vegan ;/

  • well new zealanders sell possums meat, to get around the issue of people thinking they are cute , they call then kiwi bears for export marketing …..then it just looks like meat in a box rather than a cute possum.

    • They sell feral possum meat from Un Zud at Leo's supermarket in Heidelberg, Victoria. They label it 'Possum'. It sells well, probably because it's delicious. They also sell wild roo and wallaby, and farmed emu and croc, among other such things.

      Yum.

  • Thought rat skin for sale 🐀😂
I guess rat evolved into a roo? 🤔

    • +1

'I guess rat evolved into a roo?'

Erm … nah, separate lineage. Marsupials vs. eutherian mammals.

  • Hey Op,

Can you tell me rough dimensions?

    • Hey, The Rough Dimensions is 160cm (Long) by 75cm (Wide) from head to tail. 🦘🇦🇺
