I have not tasted this port - received this deal in my email. I use port for cooking all the time, and very occasionally drink it. I have ordered one case just for cooking - and I think for this purpose this is a great price. Had a quick google for other retailers selling this - but couldn't find much other than international sellers who have sold out. FYI, from those sites the price was about $10 a bottle.

As for the port, GetWinesDirect have hyped it up:
"What a sensational value! Its light to medium ruby hue is accompanied by an extraordinary bouquet of sweet candied fruit intermixed with notions of maple syrup, earth, and hazelnuts. This gorgeous tawny delivers plenty of pleasure."
93 Points - Robert Parker's The Wine Advocate.
"Round and moderately sweet, with chocolaty notes to the cherry and dried fig flavors that linger on the refined finish. Drink now."
90 Points - Wine Spectator.

Not bad "piss value", I guess

    16.9% alcohol x 12 bottles x 750ml = 1.521 litres of alcohol for $55.38

To get the same from 5% beer, you'd need 30.42 litres. That is 81 cans, or 3.28 slabs/cases.

As to which would give the worst headache? That would be subject to further laboratory testing. LOL

    • The concept of drinking cheap port just to get drunk is quite repulsive :)

Already normally a great bargain at retail price (around $10-12 per bottle). At this price it's a no brainer.

    • Hi Nick,
I had originally included that link in my post, however on closer inspection that doesn't look like the same as what GWD is selling? Cross check the label and the name. Totally agree with your statement though - this should be great value.

I just ordered and paid the extra $2 that includes the donation to the Queensland guy who has that amazing illness. I'm normally watching for the scams but this case seems totally genuine and I left the default donation ticked. Still a great deal.

Are you going to claim the $2 off your tax return ? :)

      • No :-)
It is not a registered charity anyway so you can't. Poor guy used to own a house and an IGA business on the Sunshine Coast. Sounds like he is making some progress though.

  • It takes me about 3 months to drink one bottle. 12 would be 3 years! Ithink I'd be sick of it by then.

McWilliam's Tawny is only $6 at evil Woolcoles big wine barns.
