On the first day of release this card was selling for well over $800 dollars

  • serious Gamer!

  • still rather 2 cheaper cards in CF or SLI than blowing that much on a single card

Have you actually used xfire for an extended period of time? The sheer number of issues and ugliness it causes really make it a pain to run. Give me a single card any day (granted I'd probably never spend >$300 on a GPU).

For those with a little patience, I'd wait for one of these beasts :P

      • That 6GB card got canned. and no longer exists but it would have been cool and we may still see a 6GB card from another brand at some point. :)

whilst not the gigabyte, which is a more expensive brand, the HIS is $599 at PCCG

regardless, these cards are overpriced and have been steadily dropping since release, id wait for nvidia to release their gpus, which will be soon.
if they dont force AMD to lower their prices, theyll at least be better value. but as it is, AMD doesnt have too much competition and are overcharging.

    • I don't think the cards are overpriced for the top model I think it's quite fair.

Remember when the 8800GTX came out it was selling for $1000 everywhere!

      • In 2006 (rough release time of 8800gtx), http://xe.com/ucc is telling me that ~US$0.75=AUD$1. That has now passed parity and it's about ~US$1.05=AUD$1

        • Even if we did convert that using your figures it would be about ~$750. So still a lot cheaper since everything does get cheaper as technology gets more efficient(?).

    • Just to add to this. Saying that Gigabyte is a more expensive brand than HIS is not true in all instances. In the 5000 series i specifically remember the gigabytes being the cheapest brand available. The HIS was around the same price as every other brand, and around 30 - 40 bucks dearer than the gigabyte cards.

  • Wow… that looks decent. Was considering the Sapphire 7950 OC (the Batman card… ) but I'd go $40 more to get the better one. Mind you, this is only because nVidia is taking so much time to get their 600's out. Urgh.

  • If you keep this up vid_ghost I'll probably have a new GPU by the end of the week :)

FYI - Looking for ~$300 max, no preference on brand or ati/nvidia, currently have a GTX280 & hoping the new card will last me through ivy bridge.

    Now go my minion!

They also have a ASUS Radeon HD7870 DirectCU II Factory Overclocked $399

Thanks this is a great starting point, doing a bit of research shows me the card has slightly higher performance than the 560Ti which is a bit disapointing to me. Further reading leads me to 'Kelper' architecture based 600 series of nVidia being released soon so I think I'll hold on a bit longer.

        Thanks :)

IT Estate are a**holes. First time I ordered a CPU they tried a sly switch-a-roo with a non-K model. Second order they invoiced me, I paid it with express delivery, then they tacked on an extra fee for CC payment (AFTER the invoice which was for CC payment), didn't bother notifying me that the order was sitting there, after 2 days wondering what the hell and chasing it up they expect me to pay extra for something they haven't even sent yet. VERY slow to process refunds both times. Buyer beware.

    • Its the better of the "Cheaper" stores around .. i havent had any problems from them and when you call they pick up the phone right away! and DO sort out your problem .. unlike other stores its not that bad at all…

I just go there in person. They are a lot better than MSY.
