Smart umbtella, is Bluetooth pairing really necessary for an umbrella?

    • +1

well, people like it - an average they lose 5 umbrellas in their lifetime

      • +2

Is it proximity based alerting? It's great that people.like them, not my cuppa tea, another thing to manage keep charged and paired etc.

        • +1

Yes, it's based on a ping from BT chip to your smartphone, cca 20 m radius (you also have additional functions like snooze, safe locations, rain alerts)

          • @Kisha Umbrellas: Nice, good umbrellas are expensive, so if made from quality parts it's not a bad price considering the additional features.

            • @eggaz: yeah, look up our windproof test on youtube or on the website… we believe it's really awesome ;)

              • @Kisha Umbrellas: I'll check it out. Is the company called Kisha Umbrellas, as Kiša is translated to rain in Bosnian or Croation?

              • +1

@Kisha Umbrellas: Hi will this umbrella make me Mary Poppins in high wind?

                • +1

                  @sammyla:

make me Mary Poppins in high wind?

Depends on how many cans of baked beans you eat…

                  • +1

@jv: lol must add a few beers

                  • @jv: or how baked you get

                    • @eloque: or where you've bean…

                      • @jv: and what you've been poppin'

      • I'm above average for once 😎

      • lol and the 5 umbrellas cost like 100 bucks in a lifetime. if i buy this it will cost me five times as much in a lifetime.

      • total cost of the 5 would cost me less the price of this one..

    • Maybe it opens automatically when showers are forecast.

  • 120 dollars umbrella - surely it should have inbuilt speaker and heater too right

    • well, all high-end umbrellas have a similar or higher price tag. I think we're good :)

    • +1

      inbuilt speaker and heater

      Anti-rain?

      • water resistant

  • +8

For that price, I would expect the umbrella is hands free

  • +10

Please let me know if someone buys this - they aren't eligible to browse OzBargain 🤣

  • What does it do??

    • +1

it's a 100% windproof (tested at 140kmh / 85 mph) and Bluetooth-connected umbrella - paired with your smartphone so you don't lose it.

      • I presume it must have some sort of gps beacon then. Just relying on bluetooth means that unless I am in its vicinity it will remain lost

        • once you lose the signal, we push the pin on gmaps / apple maps in the background, so you get it by "last known location"… GPS would drain too much battery… we are also looking to upgrade and get something with mesh networks or similar tech for next update

          • +1

@Kisha Umbrellas: So once it's out of your sight it's already useless. Unless, uh, you lose your umbrella without noticing you lost your umbrella but are still within bluetooth distance of it. Seriously?

          • +2

@Kisha Umbrellas: Cant you just attach a Apple tag to your umbrella?

            • @Nalar: our app is designed to work with our BT chips, but we are considering apple tag as well. thanks for mentioning.

    The world is going mad

    • +5

Some people drink beer and pissit down the drain, others just buy an expensive umbrella and have it for years….

      • Agreed. My wife's Blunt umbrella looks as good as new after 8 years and I'm on my 3rd umbrella.

      • @ Logical OK that's a fair comment.

  • How long does the bluetooth battery last in the umbrellla?

    • 8-12 months, depending on your usage - if you turn the BT chip off during summertime or longer sunny periods, it would last 12 months. it's a CR2302 battery so you can replace it

  • How do I become a OZBargain member?

  • +2

Buy $15 umbrella and stick apple tag $45 to it - total $60, and save $60 😝

    • +5

if you can find a $15 umbrella thats comparable to ours, sure :)

  • +2

So I could strap a Tile to a $40 umbrella and get the same thing?

Better actually, Tile tracking is pretty cool.

    • please share link to a similar windproof umbrella (but without BT) that can be bought for $40

  • +3

    I'd rather get wet

  • +3

How many of you losing an umbrella enough to need a GPS connected to it

    • Its not going to help if you have alighted from the bus and it beeps after the bus has departed.

  • tested at 140kmh / 85 mph

    LMAO

    • you become Mary Poppins, nice isnt it? the umbrella will whisk you in to the sky as long as you hold on tight

  • Zombie alerted - resident evil mode

  • +1

Remember that guy who was so fiercely defending that $200 umbrella?

    • who? that's an illogical thing to do..

        • holy sheet..
I got that 5 bucks kmart umbrella is bad for environment and I for one wouldn't buy them, as I will probably buy something more durable but certainly not over 60 bucks, i guess there is a point where more $ spend doesn't necessarily offer better return. Anything after that probably just to impress others or your own ego (which is not bad as you need to spoil yourself too?)

  • +4

you better stay inside at 85mph, that's close to category 2 hurricane, your umbrella will not help you save your life..

    • +1

I could finally nail that Mary Poppins impression.

  • Looks ok and the fundamentals seem great, but are there any nonBT versions?

    • it really doesn't make sense since we started with BT versions :)

  • Does it auto-deploy when wet? 😆

    • Alexa, open umbrella

  • +1

Good to know that your umbrellas are 100% windproof in your everyday entry level category 2 cyclone, but I couldn't find any specifications about their water or UV resistance. Are these umbrellas waterproof by any chance? Based on your website gloves are always worn when handling your umbrellas, are they included? Also, could you provide a link to your advertised empirical research on propensity to lose umbrellas by gender as this data would be invaluable to anyone undertaking a PhD in Parasology.

    • gloves are not included :D - our model thought they were cool… I will have to dig out the link for losing umbrellas by gender… and yes, it really endured 140 kmh wind - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vtyoR3woYm4

    • +1

If it's waterproof then people are looking at this deal wrong. It's not an expensive umbrella, turn it upside down and it's a cheap boat!

Maybe it is useful in a category 2 cyclone after all!

  • +1

windproof umbrella is able to withstand winds up to 140kmh / 85mph

Egad! At that windspeed, you better let go of your precious umbrella or else risk being ala Mary Poppins.

  • Won't break…but wind can still invert it and an interesting design when it becomes inverted
Personally, like the shape of Japanese parasols also with 16 ribs compared to this….and are compact.

If adding bluetooth ma,es it "smart", going to go and see someone about getting a transplant.
