Dysons bought from Amazon DE/FR won't have Australian warranty, but you can still get them repaired and serviced here for a fee. (Personally, I'm happy to go without local warranty if it means saving 30%, but others may beg to differ.)

I'm willing to risk forgoing the local warranty as I'm guessing if a repair is needed, it shouldn't be expensive so you still come out saving money… actually has anyone had experience with repair costs for these units?

I walked into Good Guys (vic) haggled(395), a bit more (370), and a little bit more (350)!. I was buying for my sister who'd told me she'd been offered 350 elsewhere so I stuck to that price. turns out she'd actually been offered 395. honest mistake I swear.

Yes there are country codes embedded in the serial numbers. e.g. my DC32 from Amazon Germany has "DE" in the serial number so the local Dyson refused to cover it.

How would this compare to, say, the Roomba 530?
I'm considering getting the roomba for an uncle, as he can be a little bit 'indolent', and wondering if it still does a 'good job'.
It's a handheld vacuum cleaner, whereas Roomba is a autonomy bot that roams in your house while vacuuming at the same time. Two different types of products.
I found the handheld vacuums quite useful especially in household that needs to vacuum constantly (due to kids for example).
Wahh.. that is a great price man, bought mine from local HN with 4 years extra warranty for $380…but seems amazon only cover max $15 postage for faulty return now.

I've had the animal version for a while - a really useful product, but that is the problem: you use it a lot. I would say buying locally is a good idea as ours has needed a few repairs in the last six months.
What happened to it? Just curious.
Electrical issues. One was that the speed control (high/low) stopped working. Later was the vacuum simply turning itself off after a few seconds.
On a different topic, I recommend getting a spare battery, so you are only cycling your batteries after a full discharge (Think about it: if you use the vacuum for 2 minutes then put it back on charge, it recharges back to full without fully discharging. If you have a spare battery, you don't need to charge it until it is completely empty, when you switch it out for the spare charged one.)
Lithium batteries tend to not like being run down to empty as opposed to Ni-Cad/Ni-Mh batteries which like being cycled.

Anyone knows any better deal for a normal Dyson?8 mins is on max power. 15 minutes is more than enough. You wouldn't be using it to do your whole house.
Also it's 15 mins of continuous use - you depress a trigger to use, so it actually lasts a lot longer that way.i checked other model because of this deal, DC29 also available to ship to Australia, work out to be around euro 291 including shipping.

50Hz in Australia and Eurpoe, 60Hz is the US. I think Australia's voltage was 240V +/- 10% 50Hz however I think it has been changed to 230V +/- 10% 50Hz. I just measured mine and it is 248V at the moment.

Don't worry there is always a tolerance 220-250V in most appliances. With motors it's the Hz figure that can sometimes be an issue however we in Australia use 50Hz.
My girlfriend bought one of these for ~$350 at HN recently - she's happy with it, but increasing her vacuuming frequency to daily is driving me a bit insane.
Runtime isn't an issue - but may become one as the batteries pack it in!

how long does the shipping take?
Some of my friends said it takes 3 weeks..They're probably thinking of books or movies they ordered from Amazon. Bulkier items like this Dyson are shipped out of Amazon's German warehouse using DHL Express and should take 2-5 business days, depending on where you are in Australia. I've ordered about a dozen bulky items from Amazon Europe (UK/DE/FR/IT/ES) and delivery has always been 3 days to Sydney.
Just to add to my earlier comment; bulky items from Amazon Europe are usually delivered to Australia in 2-5 days, but only if they are in stock at the time of purchasing. I forgot this particular item wasn't in stock, so it'll likely take longer.
Right now the item page on the Amazon.fr page says: "Usually ships in 1 to 2 months" ("Habituellement expédié sous 1 à 2 mois").

Just bought DC 37 Animal (equivalent to DC39 here I believe) from amazon.de. Ordered last Thursday, arrived this morning!
The price on the website is EUR 443.00 but at checkout it's only EUR 372.27, probably exempt from VAT, plus shipping for EUR 40.00 so totally end up to EUR 412.27 = AUD 514.68 I paid.

The DC39 is sold by Dyson for $949, no mention of the DC37 on their site.
Ebay has one DC37 Animal for $688.00
Couldn't find out what the differences areI think DC37 is the same as DC39 as it's the only barrel model with Ball technology.
Previously I was looking for DC39 Allergy and the price I got quoted from the local shops is about $690 so I think this price for DC37 Animal shouldn't be too bad, plus I don't have to look around or haggle for any discount.Only used the vacuum once so far so can't comment on the performance but I found the cable gets a bit warm after usage, shouldn't be a big deal I guess.

I folded and just purchased one, I really don't need it, I already have a dyson barrel and a roomba, not to mention I don't vacuum very often. Anyhow it is 216 Euros posted now, put on 28 degrees, i think this works out to $274 AUD using XE currency converter.

" Not sure, we have an upright Dyson already but this DC35 is much easier if you want to just hoover one room. The suction seems to be nearly as good as the fullsize one. We purchased it mainly for the car and picking up any crumbs the kids leave behind.Has anyone else had their vacuum shipped yet? I'm itching to try it out…

I received mine. But mine is missing the battery. I thought it hidden in packaging , so ripped it apart…. no sign of the battery. I check some unboxing videos on youtube to find where the batter will be in the packaging. It is attached to vaccum cleaner in the video. Mine didn't have the battery attached. Did anyone else have similar experience.

I think a brand new one costs around $70 …i think Amazon should re-send you a battery in this case, just email them, my experience with Amazon US was pretty good, hope the fr branch will be good too, good luck

Definitely contact Amazon France, like "excite" I know Amazon's customer service is pretty good so I think it quite likely they'll help you out with the missing battery.
