Best deal on a decent RTX 3070 8GB (LHR) Graphics Card that I could find In-Stock within Australia over the past week.

Looks like it came back into stock today (at this price) because I couldn't see it yesterday when I checked Tech Fast website.

Meh, I might as well wait another generation at this point. 1080 still runs.

    • +2

Same. My 1070ti still runs great at 1080p, high on most current titles.

    • +3

Same, running a 1080 and a 2013 CPU. Just waiting for Alder Lake and DDR5

my RX480 is struggling….but so is my wallet.

      • Same here with RX480 and still HODLing

    • same here with 1060, may be I have to wait another 5 years to upgrade to a 3060 Ti :D

    • But but, what about for minecraft???

    "Decent"?

Did you enjoy the Exxon Valdez?

I remember feeling like an idiot for paying $1480 for an RTX3080 close to launch. I don't feel so bad these days……

    • +2

you can sell it for 2.4k easily if its non lhr and used

      • +1

Hm. Maybe I could buy a 3080 Ti LHR with that.

        • +2

yeah that's exactly what i did
miners can go mining and we can go gaming

          • @THX: Where did you sell it? Ebay?

            • +2

@mackdiddy: Don't deal with ebay, go on FB marketplace or Gumtree and deal in cash

  • Tempted, running 4K on a 2070 and it struggles.

Will just have to get through my PS4 and Switch backlog.

    • +1

      I'm running 4k on a 970. Be happy lol =P

      • Which games do you play?

        • Haha sorry if that came across a bit grumpy lol.

Old games. Very old games. Actually it can play mists of pandaria on basically "high"! I was super surprised. And to make it worse it's via an egpu.

1070; the last gpu I ever purchased ?

  • ppl have been warning others of getting these 3070s with 8 gigs of memory and how they will be too low soon
well now with far cry 6 you cant add hd textures unless you have 11 gigs
you can expect this for few other games soon

    • Thanks for your comment, I'll now be looking at 12GB or higher GPU's for myself :)

    • +1

Really? wow~! I'm glad I'm not leaning towards buying RTX 3070.

    • +6

Pfft. Unless you're using that 3070 to game at 4k, I seriously doubt it'll affect you.

You won't need 11gb video mem at 1080p.

      Here you go:
"As expected, 3440x1440 with all settings on Ultra and HD Texture Pack on only claims to need 5.48GB of VRAM (about 1GB more than with it toggled off) and has no negative effect with an 8GB GPU. Actual VRAM usage in game is more like 6.8GB which is still fine.

Edit: The Ubi Connect overlay will spam you with low VRAM warnings though, which does get pretty annoying. So far it hasn't had any gameplay effect and my avg fps is well over 60 so they just need to remove that shit."

      • exactly, every card will run out of performance long before memory

      • +2

And the 12gb 3060 bottlenecks at a lot of lower points than the 3070, RAM isn't everything

      • I will be Gaming at 4K (currently Gaming @ 1440p).

      • +1

I mean 4k is rapidly becoming an "every day" resolution for non fps gamers. There are some suuuuuuper sweet dell 4k panels for about $300. It's not unreasonable to assume in a few years time a good chunk of people will be on 4k.

It's also how detailed the textures are that studios use. Granted nvidia is big enough to hold the industry back, but if 12gb was the standard, artists could simply push out prettier textures that use more memory.

    • 11GB VRAM requirement is only if you're playing it at 4K resolution which in this case doesn't really make sense anyways with an RTX 3070 for far cry 6 so it's fine. Also, there will be a difference in buffered VRAM usage vs actual VRAM usage in game. The actual VRAM usage more often than not would actually be less than the reported figure in in-game overlays.

not really, most ppl that bought this card will game at 2k and its disappointing not to be able to play it at this - but no prob, you prob bought this dud and are salty now

        • +2

          What are you even smoking?

          https://www.eurogamer.net/articles/digitalfoundry-2021-far-c…

4k = 8.6gb of actual vram usage. Not a problem on the 3070 as who is running 4k+RT on a 3070? Or turn RT off.
Not a problem on the 3080 because it has 10gb.

          • @justtoreply: i dont know what you are smoking - there are plenty of ppl that cant run hd pack without issues on with a 3080 let alone 3070 - just look it up on reddit

even the review you so kindly linked to mentions this thought he notes he hasn't used more then 8 gigs but still got texture loss - its clearly NOT recommended for under 11 gigs since its 2021 and having a card with under 10 gigs in this day and time is crazy, let alone one you just bought for $1.5k

            • @botchie: It says theres a bug which doesnt always trigger

"VRAM utilisation here never exceeds 8.6GB, meaning that the full 10GB of memory is not used. In other scenarios, I found that the RTX 3080 would only allocate 7.9GB of memory and the HD textures never loaded. This doesn't look right to me."

        • +3

Not really. If gaming at 4K you'd probably get a higher spec card like 3080 or 3090.

I've got a 3070 and 34 ultrawide which would run fine.

          • @Caped Baldy: 3080 is only 10 gigs
you will run the game fine but not with hd pack and with 34 inches you will be able to see difference between hd pack on and off - some textures wont load in sometime- game will still run and fps is not affected

    • +1

I don't know about far cry 6 and current gen GPUs, but FF XV and Monster Hunter Wold both run at very close to 8GB @3440x1440 on my PC with RTX 2080. Too close for comfort I had to turn Texture down a notch on those games. No way I'm paying 1k+ for a GPU with only 8GB RAM nowadays.

  • Don't like the brand

  • I look at this, and then check to see what I could get for a 5 year old GTX 1060 6GB (recent sold listings on ebay at $400+), and start thinking upgrading becomes a bit more reasonable.

  • +2

It's not a deal, but if you need a gpu, just get it. All those HODlers are losers sitting their playing Minecraft mobile edition.

  • 3060 and 3070 are sold out.

  • +1

If you price a 1080 Ti at $1000 then this actually looks still reasonable for price.

The 3070 is about 30% more powerful than the 1080 Ti but with the added benefit of having DLSS and being about 33% more energy usage efficient than a 1080 Ti sometimes more in some instances the 1080 Ti was pulling 260 watts compared to 160 watts in the same game same scene same settings and everything that is what you are getting when going this gen.

Plus a bunch of other new features and technologies like ray tracing and etc.

Realistically you should be able to get a 1080 Ti for $800 now probably less if it is used but still this price scales performance wise but not age wise or what we expect for generation on generation pricing.

Can't wait to see what the 4000 series brings.
