Affordable Quality Merino Wool Socks

Today is surprisingly cold! I'm looking for socks just to wear around the house. I'm aware merino wool provides top insulation.

I just usually put layers and layers of socks over lol but I don't think it is as good as a merino wool sock? What do you think? Even in a cold climate like this, can merino wool keep your feet from the cold?

Came across the site below. That's really cheap and I'm sussed. would like your feedback and where to go from here. If Merino is the equivalence of layers of socks, stick to it? or if not, merino you recommend? Fyi life long warranty too.

  • I actually own a bunch of these socks, same label as this. They are actually great. Very warm. No holes yet.

That being said I'm doubtful they're actually Australian.

Not familar with Ozsale but I've bought off this ebay seller before. Same price free delivery - https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/113136211248

    • How long have you had them for?

Bought April/May ish last year before winter.

edit: April 2019 so over 2 years.

Label doesn't actually say "Australian Made", rather "Made by Australia merino fine wool" - very deceitful

      • Doubt it's Australian wool either.

Either way they're cheap and comfy!

Not cheap, but Australian Made and exceptionally good are Humphrey Law socks.
Wool socks keep my feet warm and importantly dry. My feet sweat in Synthetic socks, so they're warm for a while, but get cold and uncomfortable rapidly.

The linked socks are almost undoubtedly Chinese Made socks made that are possibly made from wool that was possibly grown in Australia.
Plenty of cheapo "wool" socks are either mostly or fully synthetic and the wool quality is low.

  • I never found any "affordable" ones I really liked -

The cheaper ones are typically blended with some cheap stuff and may work for some.

I like the pink Merino/Alpaca (Humprey Law brand) ones I tend to get from Merino Country and I wear them all year.

It's not cheap @ 26.50$ but worth every penny IMO.

Just beware they are great around the house but not in abrasive conditions e.g. in a shoe going outside etc.

Treat them well and they treat you well for long time.

Best material is that keeps things dry as well as regulates temperature and these socks definitely do it whatever the temp / humidity.

  • Wool is good; possum is better.

    • The possum didn't like it when I tried to shove my foot into it.

      • Neither would a sheep

  • Atm I'm wearing runners sock and trainers sock cover it. It's not too bad :)

  • If you are walking around the house I would suggest you get a pair of Crocs as well. Particularly if I'm standing cooking I find socks don't stop the cold coming up from the floor boards but the Crocs, despite the holes, seem to work pretty good.

There was a post on Reddit not too long ago listing most (if not all) the Australian sock manufacturers that are left:
