Currently Dell SMB is running a 48 hour online sale, mainly for their Latitude laptops and Precision laptops/desktops. Two of the popular UltraSharp monitors are also on-sale:

  • Dell UltraSharp U2412M — $279
  • Dell UltraSharp U2711 — $719

I guess most people here won't be interested in Latitudes — business-grade well engineered lappy that's around 2x over-priced even after discount. The UltraSharps are popular here though — for example from previous U2412M deals.

  • how does the U2412M (no hdmi)compare to SAMSUNG 27" FHD LED WS 2MS (S27A350H) with hdmi for $350

    cheers

    • 1080 on a 27 is just rubbish. Too much detail is lost. Hdmi and DVI are the same, no quality difference.

faster refresh rate and a bigger display is the only thing the Samsung has over the Dell. If it's purely for gaming, go with the Samsung. For everything else, it's not even a fair fight.

      16:10 vs 16:9
      1920x1200 vs 1920x1080
      IPS panel vs (unknown)
Adjustable stand vs move your head
      build-in USB hub vs none
      …etc

Actually DVI and HDMI do the same thing but HDMI including audio. however, that Samsung seems no build-in speakers or a audio out plug.

I have a U2412M for photo re-touching, it is amazing. Just love it.

Edit: The Dell one also come with 3 Years Premium Panel Warranty, Advance Exchange (Next Business Day) [Included in Price]

I got a S27A350H only 2 weeks ago, its not bad but the viewing angle isnt as good as a IPS, when its a 27, its starts to make a difference. If your not directly in line with the monitor height wise, light coloured things start disapearing in the bottom section of the screen (if your monitor is too low on the desk…) at 24" if the top is about the same height its noticable

for those that say 1080P isn't enough for a 27" I dont agree… its good as it just makes the text a little more comfortable to read… I have a 24 and 27 on my desk, there really isnt too much difference between the two…

dont know if its worth the extra $$$$
given the choice again, think id stick with the 27 with slightly lower res. (you can always decrease the font size in most apps and zoom out, looks fine etra res is over rated!)

will be getting a third monitor for eyefinity, think ill get the asus VK278Q this time though for the extra display port, the built in web cam and so i dont need to buy an active cable :S
    - its only about 15 bux more at CPL have a look at it - might be better than the sammie.

  • 2412M on $279 has been there since last year when on special, still can't break that barrier…

  • it says link not found.
www1.ap.dell.com brings up $329 for this monitor

Kinda hoping we start seeing some higher DPI 24"/27"/30" displays soon, in line with what we're now seeing on tablets and mobiles — both Windows and OS X have supported higher DPIs for quite some time. I've been using a 30", 2560 × 1600 display for 8 years now and am desperate for an upgrade!

    • Well the main reason why they dont go that low is well..they dont need to!

Tablets are like half the size of monitor, they need the extra dpi to make small text legible. I really wouldn't browse all day reading text as big as the fine print on a mortgage loan.

Most laptops wouldn't have support for outputting 2600x1600 in the first place. I've rarely seen a laptop with a dvi connection.

    • Whilst this may be true, at least on Windows, anyone who's tried changing the DPI, and actually using their computer, probably knows that DPI scaling is horrible.

It's why I always run my monitors at sub-native resolution.

  • Would be nice if Dell's refund worked as highlighted on OzBargain.

    14-Dec-2011 22:59:00 AEST Dell Small Business $253.64 $0.00 Tracking Feb-2012

-status for mine says "Tracking", but I don't know if others have had any different luck.

  • The monitor is mighty tempting, damn good price. Want 120Hz on my next one though.

  • STUPID DELL! Wouldnt give me 2412 on friday for 279 even after I linked to that price in december and january. Said they couldn't go that low.

    • Some of their reps are better than others when it comes to getting prices lower than listed.

  • Noooooo just in time for pay day!

    I'm supposed to be saving!

  • Should I get this? Or a 120Hz monitor for games in 2D?

Very temping for a 3rd monitor.

    • Get the same monitor as your other 2. Otherwise you're going to have to calibrate just to compensate for different panels.

      • They don't make them anymore :( Or even sell them.

I've got two of these monitors, bought each one when the deal came around previously. I use them mostly for programming, so I'm not really taking advantage of the fact that they're very capable for graphic work, but I highly recommend them. I really like the stand on these things - I've got both monitors in portrait mode and often swing one of them back to landscape mode when watching videos, the stand feels really well built.

  • Still on my trusty 2707wfp :D

I am tempted but nothing wrong with it.
