Wait for 12th Gen Intel? or Get a 11th Gen?

Been eyeing this laptop for a while.

I have access to some discounts which bring this down to just over $1100 (3 yr warranty included).
Would you buy this, or wait for the new 12th gen Intel chips?

Any other considerations I should think about?

The 11th Gen will do you fine, you have already looked at 16GB of memory which would be important on this system, it is a good price for what it is.

Next year with 12th gen we will start seeing more DDR5 memory start hitting the market too, we also have Intel releasing their graphics line up to the market. If you are able to wait there should be some interesting movements in the PC world. But these kind of things happen EVERY year they will always be something around the corner.

If you need it now or close to now, the only thing I can think of is maybe waiting for Black Friday (November 26) and Cyber Monday (November 29.

Get an 11th Gen now and sell it (and add some cash) to buy the 12th Gen later.

    WVA display

isn't it IPS ? anyway the RAM is not upgradable.
you can get a better spec'ed Lenovo Ryzen 2-in-1 for usual deals for around $950

Oh yeah be careful of this spec. Apparently the Inspiron 13 2-in-1 "WVA" is only ~70% sRGB, so the colour accuracy is pretty blech. That and the soldered on SSD were the biggest detractors for me.

I'm personally waiting for 12th gen because the performance/efficiency gains in 11th haven't been enough for me to warrant the outlay. Selling a Dell secondhand is tougher than selling say a Macbook, so you'll probably lose out, even after the significant discount. That said, you'll probably be waiting until Q1/2 22 for them to filter into the Inspiron line you're looking at.

12th gen will bring 2 high perf cores and 8 efficiency cores to thin/light portables with 12 threads total, and hopefully a fairly significant boost to both performance and battery life once paired with the optimisations in Windows 11.

    • Hi, I'm on 10th Gen and was thinking about stepping up to 11th Gen. I think I'll wait. Thanks for your insights.
