          @Homr: With the introduction of xlookup (was introduced in excel 365), it's largely made index match useless. So essentially it'll replace vlookup, hlookup, and indexmatch.

          If you still want to use indexmatch, I think it's been made simpler now with xmatch. You'll need fewer arguments in the formula.

            @Munki: Thanks, since xlookup is a new function, what happens if I use it on an old excel worksheet?

              @Homr: That formula won't work in older versions. Have tried it in an Excel 365 prepared file using Excel 2019.

              @Homr: They made things like binary lookups much easier. Asc/Desc number lookups will be 100x quicker.
              It is very straightforward with Lookup value, Lookup array, return array, <if not found>, [match mode], [search mode]
              I REALLY love the if not found as well, as it basically replaces an IFERROR nest. XLOOKUP has made most of my formulas much less convoluted.

              Also I highly recommend Excel 365, there's new LAMBDA functions coming up soon which will make formulas WAY more powerful.
              Additionally, there are things like =LET where you can define variables, formulas etc and then run a calculation on it. Makes things a lot simpler and easier to keep track of.

          Learn it and forget all the other lookup functions.

    You can. Learn the 365 suite, master data analytics by integrating Microsoft Access & PowerBI and you will be in high demand.

    This is my life … mastered Excel years ago and have had great jobs since.
    I had an assistant on a project who had little exposure to Excel. I told her that no matter what happens in the project as long as she walks out mastering the Lookup functions (and highlighted this in her resume) then she will be set for life. The project finished, she had the Lookups memorised, she applied for jobs and was offered four positions on the one day. The only thing the interviewers were interested in were her Lookup skills even though the jobs were not necessarily Excel focused. Easily jumped her ahead of all the other applicants. In her young 20ish voice she said to me "OMG!! I can't believe how right you were all this time, lol!!". I changed a life through Excel and I am proud!

  Even for free I wouldn’t recommend this. The examples are hard to follow. You can get infinity clear answers from YouTube or exceljet.

  I've downloaded, there's a reason this is free, it's not very useful. Everything is only briefly described with the syntax copy-pasted there. What is this, Excel recipes collection?

  The most I could think of is using this as a guideline of what to learn, even then it's not a very handy summary because everyone's need is different. There are so many to learn, it's better to focus on your immediate need first.

  I am still keeping it in my free kindle library along with hundreds of other books that I never read, like all those cooking recipes, Excel 'recipes', unfunny joke books, wonders of the earth, first books of boxed adventure and magic serials etc. Maybe I'll start downloading every free Amazon book in Ozbargain and see how many I'll end up with.
