Can somebody explain NBN hopping for a novice? I have HFC, but presumably the process would be the same and would be useful for everybody?
Basically
if your NBN ends on say 10th of next month, then you start new NBN service on the previous working day (to avoid downtime) and then give notice to your current NBN provider to terminate once the current billing cycle ends?

So, you can have a new NBN service active while the previous provider is still active? Similar to sim hopping where your service end date might a specific date, but nothing preventing you from porting out to another provider before that date
Correct me please if I've misunderstood the NBN hopping process
You just sign up with the new provider and your service switches over. It usually takes less than an hour.
Your current ISP may send you a text message asking you to confirm that you are porting to a new provider, just respond yes to that. After a short time your modem reboots and you're up and running with your new ISP straight away. You should notify your old ISP that you've moved so that they stop billing you, but even that's done automatically by some providers.
Have switched Telstra->Aussie->Launtel->Superloop->Aussie and never been down for more than an hour; quickest was about 5 minutes.
As it's so easy to churn, you can take advantage of whatever special offers are available. There's no benefit in being loyal and staying with one provider these days.
