Recommended Replacement Sanding Discs (125mm)

Bit the bullet and finally picked up an Ozito PXC Random Orbital Sander and also impulse bought their mini bench sander too. Both use 125mm velcro paper. I have existing papers from older purchases (just need to punch holes or trim, etc.) but at some point I need to buy a set of replacement discs to keep on hand.

Is there an OzBargain favourite for sandpaper? Something from the Dave Warner collection?

I really like Project Farm's review and based on that here and from what I've applied from that to items I can get:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VP2XqXYEZkU

  1. $15-20/100: Cheapies in that review are like Craftright and those generic packs off eBay/Amazon.
  2. $30/50: Flexovit pack with case from Bunnings - same parent company as Norton from the review which tested well but I've read Flexovit have a policy of Australian made (so, do we make good or bad sandpaper? lol)
  3. $40/50: Norton pack with case from Total Tools and others.
  4. $50/50: Diablo here is more expensive here ($1/disc)

Leaning towards trying Flexovit but if people know of something cheaper or can attest to cheaper/smaller packs being fine I'm all for saving dollars. Or if probable-EU made Norton is better than Flexovit.

  • I recently got the corded Ozito random orbital and bought a mixed pack of diablo discs.
I honestly didn't pay much attention to the cost but I figured the better the discs the longer they should last. Hard to truly know unless you measure the sanding hours per disc. All I know is if the diablos run out quickly I won't be getting them again!

  • I'd go for the more expensive ones, they last much longer and don't get clogged up as easily.

  • Arguably the best thing you can do is hook up a dust vac to your filter bag outlet. If you dont have one, the $50 or so for a cheapie ozito is worth it. The dust collection difference will be significant, and the finish and speed of sanding will be much better (assuming your grit progression is right). Yo may need an adaptor but these are readily available.

Mesh type discs last longer but are dearer. They are less likely to overheat, and dust extraction with the above will give you an ideal solution.

The diablo sandnets are good but at bunnings they are quite expensive. In general bunnings gives you two options: cheap and crap quality, or ok quality but overpriced. If you go through lots of paper, this will add up quickly. To offer an alternative to the above poster, i have had good experiences at https://www.thesandpaperman.com.au/125-mm-diameter-mesh-net-…
    (no affiliation).

    • Already using an old house vac (plus extra dust bucket :P) in the garage so yes I do have something. Although admittedly probably wouldn't if it's a sanding job outside away from the garage.

The mesh discs did do well in his review but the price difference kinda kills it for my level.

  • Dumb question but hey better safe than sorry, can you use holed sandpaper on a bench sander? Same diameter obviously, just no dust extraction holes. If not then one extra criteria would be a set with no holes as I'd rather have the one set and just punch holes when needed.
