Product Subscription - Get Notifications on Deals Tagged with Specific Products

Here's an announcement of a new feature that we have recently released to beta users, and it's probably one of the most requested feature on OzBargain. You can now receive alerts/notifications on deals that have been tagged with specific products.

To subscribe to a specific product:

  1. Navigate to the product page on OzBargain. For example iPhone 13.
  2. Click on "Subscribe" button, that should be located just above the first deal.

You will then receive slightly-delayed notification whenever a deal has been posted that have been tagged with iPhone 13. To manage your currently subscribed products, go to My Account → Subscriptions → categories tab. Your subscribed products will be listed under "Products" section on the page. Depending on your categories subscription setting, your notification can either come in email, or the on-site notifications, or both.

This should hopefully replace search alerts that often produce false positives. It will not completely eliminate false positives, as some posters often tag deals with incorrect product tags. For example during testing, we often get notified of PlayStation 5 deals, when the deals only have PS5 games.

Also note that the notification is triggered 10 to 30 minutes after a deal has been posted (or re-tagged), i.e. it is not instant.

This feature is currently available only to beta users.

Edit Dec 2021: No longer in beta, available to all.

    Thanks Scotty and OzB team.
Here's hoping my comment gets lots of upvotes so I can get my first OzB badge to test this feature out. :-)

pretty sure u need two badges

      • That's what made it show up for me.

You need to do 92 more comments to get Badge of COMMENTATOR. Will see you all over OzB today :D

    • Badges? We don't need no stinkin' badges!

  • @scotty What if Product isn't tagged in Deal ? Shall we use search alert and tag together to avoid missing a deal on specific products, but that will result in duplicate notifications.

In New Deal, it will be good to Change from TAG to TAG (to notify product subscribers).

The notification can also be sent after the deal has been tagged/re-tagged. For example,

      1. 12:00PM some user posted a PS5 deal, with no tags
      2. 12:30PM a power user re-tagged the deal with "PlayStation 5"
      3. 12:40PM notifications are sent to all users subscribed with PlayStation 5.

It's possible to use both search alert and product subscription, but search alert can produce quite a bit of false positives (and also taxing to our backend).

OOT, can we consider creating a product review / rating system as well? Maybe just like the voting system in the forum. I find myself before buying any product I would often search the comments in ozbargain deals first just to get a feel about what our community think about the quality of the product. That is how much I trust your opinions, and I'm never disappointed!

  • Thanks heaps, It Takes Two was really hard to create a search alert for so a product alert will work fantastically.

  • This is great, are many people using it? I use it, most of the times when I subscribe to something, says I am the first subscriber, I hope you keep this feature.

    • Current over 230 products have been subscribed by users, and the top 5 products are:

      • Google Pixel 6 Pro
      • Apple Gift Card
      • Nintendo Switch
      • iPhone 13
      • PlayStation 5
      • lol, too bad about that 10 to 30 minute delay on PS5 alerts :p

I think the only reason I was able to get is cause I went to ozbargain and it was listed as having been posted literally seconds ago

  • Can you please extend this to product tags (e.g. tablet, graphics card, etc), rather than just specific models?

+1, trying to setup a notification for a 4TB NVMe SSD is tricky.

      • Use search alerts if you want something more specific. And we already allowed subscription to a product category, i.e. SSD.
