For those with club catch, it might get cheaper tomorrow with ShopBack 20% back.
    Wario

    • Or with target 50-10 coupons.

      • +2

I thought that doesn’t work on gaming?

        • +6

I can confirm the -10 target vouchers dont work on gaming

          • @PirateKingJack: When did they change that?

I remember buying MH stories 2 a few months ago and the voucher worked.

            • @mangobango: I just got ten bucks off a $39 dress for my wife and tony hawks for $20.. possible workaround?

              • @cheapjack: Yeah, Target have a shitty system. It often works if you add other categories/items.

I was able to get 2 of the Lego flower sets for ~$65/each with the buy $200 get $50 off. Just had to add a pair of socks to qualify the whole order as clothing lol

              • @cheapjack: Maybe for now, yeah.

Before I could purchase only the game and it worked, but hey whatever works!

  • What’s a good game for a 6 yr old? No Zelda as it was only played for 5 min and has been sitting in its case ever since. No violent game either.

Need to rip off the animal crossing obsession Band-Aid before school starts again!

    • +3

Super Mario bros, animal crossing, super smash bros

      • Thanks, we already have those games.

    • +2

What's wrong with an Animal Crossing obsession at 6 years old?

At that age I was obsessed with Pokémon and it became a matter of parents limiting my time playing the console. Balance games with other Life stuff and learning.

If you're just looking for new games in general for someone that age I'd recommend:
      Pokémon Let's Go
      Pokémon Sword/Shield
      PikuNiku
      Boomerang Fu
An old FIFA (18 or 19 if you can find it)
      Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 1+2
      NBA 2K Playgrounds 2
      Super Mario Odyssey/Yooka Laylee
      Minecraft
Rocket League (it's free, so why not?)

Then if you can let go of the violence thing (games don't make kids violent), Smash Bros is great. It's hardly realistic. They're even making a Nickelodeon "clone" of the game.

    • +1

Pokemon probably right in the wheel-house for grabbing a 6yo. Sword/Shield the best you can do on the Switch.

Captain Toad Treasure Tracker is probably another good one, clever isometric puzzler that's probably relatively simple enough with levels self-limited in space and scope.

Maybe the Yoshi game (Crafted World) might be the best adventure platformer to get into at that age, a very cute and definitely one of the easier entry-points. If that catches them, then you could try graduating to the Marios (2D first), with Zelda probably still at least another 2-3 years away.

      • +2

Agree - Yoshi in particular is a franchise tailor-made for this age group

        • Yoshi wooly yarn or similar

      • Mario 3d world my 3 year old plays much better than the 2d ones like like super Mario bros U and the like. Odyssey is still beyond my 7 year old knowing all the controls. Obvs my 3 year old can't do the fast tricky stuff in 3d world but can follow along in 2 player mode.

Mario Maker 2 is great for all ages and you can make it super easy.

    • Hide and seek, catch, tag.

      • bull rush, rock fights, wrestling on the bed, handball cricket, slaps,

        • Rock fights 😂

        • As per OP

          No violent game either

So that rules out… Well… All of that?

        • sackwack

      Minecraft

      • Minecraft probably better on a tablet to be honest.

        • Uhhh not even close to being better on a tablet. PC than console than tablet.

          • @Danstar: Obvs PC is best. My kids prefer Minecraft on tablet over switch

    • +1

This game has been great? Go try the demo which is free?

    • My 6 year old won’t put Zelda BotW down anymore, needing to set some limits over the school break!

But he’s also enjoyed pikuniku when he was a little younger, Luigis mansion, mario party, various mario platformers, animal crossing, pokemon sword and let’s go evee. On other platforms he likes brawhalla and donkey Kong emulator.

I’d recommend pikuniku and luigis mansion- you can play coop which is really fun for adults too.

    • They into pokemon? New pokemon games coming out soonish

    • Kirby's star allies is also great for the younger kids.

      • Oh yeah my 3 year old is obsessed with all the Kirby games, pretty decent at the SNES ones too on the switch store.

        • What controller is your 3yo using? My kids struggle with a joy.con sideways Mario kart and they are older.

          • @kulprit: Pro controller or two joy cons in the controller bracket thing.

My kids are pretty bad with joycons except for Mario party.

            • @serpserpserp: I think it's probably lack of exposure, but maybe Mario kart is just to hard too. Without the steering and accelerate assist we wouldn't be doing anything.

I have tried them on Super Mario Bros, but running and jumping at the same time is too much as well.

              • @kulprit: I honestly try every now and then to play something, but end up giving up with my 6 year old and 5 year old unless it is just dance.

We play Lego City undercover but it ends up being more coop. 6 year old can follow along if I lead. She has been asking for animal crossing but thinking maybe I need to give in, just wish it was 2 player without a seperate console.

Also need to invest in a proper controller as they struggle with the joy cons, else I get them to use a ps4 controller. Potentially solving the controller situation might help the situation.

                • @Baa: Cheers. I guess we got our NES when I was 6 and we just learnt ourselves as we went. Maybe I need to step back and let it them work it out. Seems hard when the bits are worth so much to replace.

The problems of the second generation of gamers I guess.

    • Which Zelda?

  • Thanks, I've impulse bought it, even though I still haven't played warioware gold yet.

    • +2

      My first Warioware.

I actually bought it second-hand 1-2 weeks ago for $48 delivered, and just noticed this price drop because it was still on my watch list.

  • Can you play this two switches or only a single switch and two controllers? (My partner and I each have a switch lite.)

    • +1

I presume one cartridge, one switch… controllers for local multiplayer.

    • Your need two copies to play multiplayer together on separate switches, main story is 1-2 players and some average mini games are available for 1-4 players.

  • …still stuck at my ebgames preorder store. Might as well I just buy this and cancel on 11th Oct.

    • How much $ at EB?

  • 69.99 but can price match at 59.99 with other retail store but $54 delivered….no brainer.

Cant wait to pluck nose, armpit hair with the kids lmao

  • +3

It was…. alright. And surprisingly hard!

Didn’t quite live up to the hype I had for it, particularly since they didn’t use any of the motion functionalities the JoyCons were begging to be used for. If you can get a copy of the Wii one, more fun to be had there, I think.

    • This was my biggest fear when I saw the multiple characters design choice. Warioware was known for using all of the tech of the console its on. Blowing into your ds is stupid and I loved it.

As long as its better than gba version though, I'm happy.

      • +3

Yep, share the sentiment. I actually really liked the GBA one, but because its mini games were just so wacky, nothing to do with the tech. The Wii one takes the cake as the best all rounder, in my opinion!

    • Does it have much longevity/replaybility? Seems like the story is 2-3 hours then after that there isn't much else.

      • +1

It's priced lower than other 1st part Ninty for a reason.

Enjoy for the price and either resell or collect… it's the Nintendo way!

      • +1

I would say no, honestly. The story was pretty novel (I played it 2P with someone else), but didn’t feel compelled to dive much deeper otherwise. Which was something I loved doing on the Wii/DS/GBA one

        • Dang, thanks for the response(s)

    • Which Wii game was the better one? thanks in advance

      • +1

        Smooth Moves

  • -4

Downloaded the demo, was shite. I’m waiting for Mario party superstars at the end of the month for a party game.

  • it 54-59 everywhere. HN/JB/TARGET/KOGAN/CATCH/THEGAMESMEN/MWAVE

    • Looks like Amazon AU pricematching HN.

I'm seeing at least $59 at JB, Target, Kogan, Catch, Gamesmen, Mwave

    • Oh, woops, I should've got it from gamesmen to support locals.
