I have been wanting a PS5 expansion drive and was pretty set on getting the WD Black SN850. This seems to be the cheapest price at the moment but it's coming from Amazon UK via Amazon AU and it says shipping time is 1 to 2 months. But in my experience Amazon has always shipped things much sooner than the stated 1-2 months.

Yes, you will need to add one.
The SN850 is single sided (even the 2tb model).
You can get almost any 2280 sized heatsink so long as it has a height / width that will clear the bay.I THINK 11mm height and something like 23mm width (PLEASE CHECK for yourself to confirm).
I got this one which apparently clears (and according to the dimensions and reviews it does), but I'm waiting for my SSD to arrive by next week to confirm.
https://www.amazon.com.au/gp/aw/d/B07MVZ6VXW?psc=1&ref=ppx_pā¦Yep I ordered the same one through aliexpress for $14.51 (with shipping and gst included). But it could take anywhere from 3 weeks to 3 months with aliexpress š… I have been pretty lucky with packages lately but. My last order was 22 days from placing the order to having it delivered.

Yea i want this type of heatsink, but its really hard to find one that ships in Aus. The key here is its both dual sided, and has screws holding it in place, not just pad adhesion or rubber bands.
Yup it works with that heatsink and I'm getting a read speed of 6550 MB/s according to the speedtest on PS5
No deal for me. Because by the time this is delivered, local prices may drop by then.
What if you're wrong? You can always cancel or worst case do international return right?
No offence, but this is not a bad deal.Of course you can do return, but it's going to take a good month or two before you get your money back. Money in my pocket is better than in other people's pocket. Also, Sony just announced/confirmed the compatibility a few weeks back. I am pretty sure these will come down in prices very soon.
PS I knew I would get neg for this, but that's fine. It is my opinion. You don't you have to agree with it.
almost certain that Amazon doesn't charge until the unit is shipped
I actually upvoted you because your opinion makes sense to me too.
bruh
Free returns*
*If you pick the right option…
Hahaha u can just cancel and try again till u get one for free
Same
Read/heard that WD is doing the component-swapping on NVMe drives like Adata did. Might want to check and check again as to what actually you're getting
Isn't that for the Blue? I am in the market for a 1/2 tb NVME, and the WD blue was top of the list, but then the NAND drama happen and now I am unsure. At this rate, I might just wait and see if there's better deals to be had closer to end of November ish. In the market, but not in a rush.
Why not just get the 980 Pro at a similar price?
Pretty much because Mark Cerny chose the WD Black SN850 for his own console, that's the main reason for preferring it. And the cheapest I can find a 980 Pro is $249.
How do you know he's not getting any kickbacks from WD for his "recommendation"?
Quite possible but I doubt it.
He got the model with the heatsink to save the trouble of having to source one himself, the model you've linked doesn't come with one so it's no different to a 980 Pro. The 980 Pro went down to $200 a week ago.
Really? Where did you see it for $200?
Except they are from different manufacturers. And no the Samsung 980 Pro wasn't $200 for 1TB a week ago.
@dogsryummy: Not it wasn't. It was $208 using the Klarna $50 promotion and that is not indicative of the price of the drive a week ago.
@Shaun Prawn: The price of the drive a week ago is not indicative of the price of the drive a week ago? wut?
@Shaun Prawn: And how exactly is that relevant to my question?
Placed two orders using the Klarna promotion and saved myself $100, got them both today safe and sound.
@dogsryummy: No retailer was selling the 980 Pro for $200. Someone got one for $208 using a service that does a credit check which potentially causes problems when applying for a home loan. And if for some reason you need to return something for a refund it sounds like it's a nightmare to get your money back from Klarna.
good drive
2tb almost three times the price :(
I don't think I'd wanna get a 1tb for PS5, it's the only storage upgrade you're ever really gonna be able to get for it, I'd want at least 2 extra tb… by the time theres actually enough games that I want, hopefully they be cheaper :fingerscrossed:
Yeah it's hard to imagine you won't just run out of space again in a few months.
Though from memory you can store PS5 games on a regular external drive, you just can't play them. So if you've got ~1.5TB storage for the games you're actively playing you could then buy a cheapo SSD/HDD to store games for a rainy day?
edit: yes you can
2tb Samsung 980 pro can be purchased for $499 for ebay plus members with additional $70 steam wallet redemption.
Waited too long to order. Now have to wait for even longer shipping time. Ordered anyway. Thanks OP.
It says dispatched in 1-2 months but there has been a few time where I've bought items that said the same thing and they ended up shipping in a matter of days or 1-2 weeks. So, fingers crossed this is the same!
Movement! AP global has picked it up!
You are right, there is a chance it would coming earlier. Muahahahaaa!
Just received mine today. Happy camper!
can a heatsink be added to this for ps5?
