Yeh that's what I'm talking about. But should still expensive, should be around $250 range

        I picked up a i7 4770 3years ago for $239

Most people have pointed out that there isn't much difference between 4th Gen till 7th Gen. It's only till 8th where there is a significant improvements

      • 6th Gen doesn't support windows 11, that's the point. Otherwise 4th Gen is enough for most casual processing.

    • Haha, that's what the business I work for said when they opened, we are still using these for another year, Samsung S5s and everything from the year 2013 and 14.

  • +1

This site is for the cheapest… What makes yours the cheapest price

  • Hi rep any deals on gaming pcs?

  • +1

FYI all: end date of Windows 10 support is currently October 14, 2025

    • +1

And by that point, businesses will be even further toward migration to cloud based email and office suites (we migrate more to o365 than you can imagine)…

It all comes down to the SteamDeck.
If its a hit; windows loses a chunk of the gaming segment of PC owners to ArchLinux.

If its a flop, people will still demand windows.

Im not stupid, i know linux wont 'kill windows' but this is the first time there is a real reason with no "buts" to making the swap; (potentially) better gaming support?! Come on SteamDeck!

You can polish a turd but it will still be a turd

    • +5

Nah, I wouldn't call the 9020 SFF a turd. It's still very "fit-for-purpose" as an office PC today with an upgraded SSD.

There was a period when the GTX 1030, 1050, 1050ti and 1650 GPUs were reasonably priced and they paired very well with an Optiplex 9020 series for budget-minded gamers. Those days are a distant memory now

      • What would you recommend instead ? It seems everything has gone up, for example the AMD Athlon ( duel core CPU ) has gone up to $135

I just built an i3 system, but fortunately I had an old graphics card gathering dust otherwise it would have been an expensive build.

        • I wouldn't recommend anything at the moment if you're on a tight budget (other than an XBX or PS5 if gaming is your intent).. GPU prices have yet to return anywhere close to pre-COVID levels.

For those playing older games, I would suggest holding onto your existing PC until supply-side issues are resolved - perhaps upgrade bits that make sense e.g. SSD and RAM; or scrounge around for a proper deal on the used market.

If you've got a hankering for newer titles, then keep an eye out for stock on the latest generation consoles and snag one if you can.

Otherwise, a new 5600G or 5700G system if you're desperate to get something now to tied you over.

But if all you need is an office PC, then any old potato with an SSD should do fine without paying through the nose.

    • I've run a fleet of hundreds of these. They are extremely reliable computers. I'd recommend them to anyone wanting a cheap PC for home.

  • WoW BONUS A POWER CABLE!!! Am I wondering that other seller included power cable or not?

    • I don't know, are you?

      • I don't know either. Waiting for the answer from someone who bought refurbished pc.

  • +2

Why does a supposedly AU website call post code "Zip Code" ??

  • +4

Not sure I understand people's beef. I've been running my i5-4570 for the past 5-6 years. I can't fault it.
All I can justify upgrading atm is the case and that's just for some retail therapy.

    • +2

      Product is fine.
Probably the wrong forum to try and dump end of life stock at readily available prices.

      • +1

Fair comment. When apple announces new phones the price of the preceding series goes down, but here when W11 gets announced the EOL of these PCs are more concrete yet it's more expensive than last time

  • +5

I think $200 delivered, for 8GB Win 10 Pro, is a good deal. Even if it's a 4570. I still run the 4590 in my desktop on Linux Mint and it's insanely fast.

For those wondering, you can move to Linux Mint after Win 10 and never miss a beat. So much is now cloud-based, that unless you're a Photoshop Pro or big into MS proprietary programs, you'll not notice anything moving to Mint except a nice speed increase & lack of resource-sucking spyware.

Just today, I set up Mint installed to desktop, for a woman who still works as a Probus secretary and has had it trying to work with 10. Mint picked up her Optus mobile broadband wifi (usb tethered), as well as her old Canon printer— without me doing anything. It's super-quick (& this is a HDD) compared to 10, by far.

I'm only writing this to dispel the naysayers who are sh*tting on a perfectly good system because they only like $ XXXX.XX computers. This is a decent PC for most uses.

    HTH

  • -3

I wouldn’t even go with these pcs as they don’t have anything built in like wifi and Bluetooth and processor is old and slow
    Won’t support windows 11.
But buy a laptop or an iPad which would be much more easier to use with latest updates

  • +1

    Noob question,
Can this support 4k monitor without a graphic card upgrade? If so, does it achieve by HDMI or Display port (if any)?

    Thanks

  • Any suggested Cheap GPU upgrades?

  • Hi, I have one of these and have tried several wifi dongles but they are all unstable ( it's not the signal because my laptop works fine). Can I put a wifi card in this?

    • several wifi dongles but they are all unstable

What kind of dongle you tried? wifi card shouldn't be any big difference.

    • I found that usb wifi dongles that sell for under $10 are rather hit and miss (especially the tiny thumbnail ones with no extended antennas). Perhaps something like this might be a better option - it's currently on sale for a decent price too.

Otherwise, there are two PCIe slots available in the 9020 SFF if you want to go for a proper wifi card.

  • +1

I have a couple of these machines, they may be older but they are very high quality builds. Runs Windows 10 or Linux just fine. They take low height graphics cards if you want to upgrade from the inbuilt main processor graphics. I have put a fan cooled gt1030 into one of mine, and a cad style card ( "cheap as" on eBay ) in the other. You just have to watch the height, thickness and power draw of the graphics card you choose. I also added a cheap external wi-fi dongle with antenna, which also works well.
    These are great little machines.

  • Do these have a small form factor compared to a normal size gaming PC? I'm looking for something like this to run as a server, so it will likely just sit under a side table.
It's hard to tell the size

    • These are the SFF units and are pretty tiny at 8L. They also come in Ultra Small Form Factor size but aren’t very expandable

    • Check out the Lenovo Thinkcentre Tiny range. You can get similar vintage PCs to what's in the OP for similar price, and they're very small. You can find them by other eBay sellers.

  • I'm running my home assistant on this machine with lightly lower specs. It works like a charm. Highly suggest anyone who is looking for a dedicate home automation server.

    • my home assistant

What kind of home assistant? I just bought the Xiaomi Temperature Humidity Sensor

      • +1

Home Assistant is an open source home automation platform. https://www.home-assistant.io/

        • Thanks, still don't have time to play around my Xiaomi temp sensor, I am thinking to install custom firmware and use home assistant.

  • +1

I bought one of these like 2 years ago and put a mini GTX1050 ti to use as HTPC and play multiplayer steam games with controller.

    Never had any issues.

    • Does it have room for HDD's?

      • +1

It has room for two HDDs. Check out the Technical Guidebook for more details

        • Thanks for that. Looks like it only supports 1 SSD + 1 HDD.

    • Same here- mine came with hdds that i replaced them with cheap ssds.
Cheap gaming for the kids with 1050ti and a 750ti low profile gpus
And another one for kodi/htpc that I used $99 shucked 4tb seagate 3.5 hdds for mass storage - with a cheap usb wifi dongle, no issues.

Its been a few years and we havnt found a reason to upgrade them. tis a bargain

  • They are good but they have been the goto deal computer along the elitedesk for a while now. I feel the next cycle for all the corporate to upgrade is coming and soon we'll see all the gen 7,8 dumped for the same price.

  • +8

Ozbargain on a $180 item going for $180 + shipping- THIS IS LUDICROUS NOT A DEAL

Ozbargain on a $799 GPU going for $1499- BARGAIN

    • -1

What about when there are 1000 votes on something but not one person was able to acquire the deal.

  • I would get this if low profile gpu's weren't so damn overpriced. I paid $220 for a low profile gtx 1050ti a few years ago, now the same thing cost around $389.

  • Is the windows 10 peo key portable?

    • Portable as in, "can you transfer the license key to another machine?" .. no

      • Thanks mate

  • +2

    good value, not the cheapest

    eg these regularly show up:
    https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/234201850360

    • Totally agreed… cheaper options around…

    • Won't get a GPU in one of those but

      • actually you can needs to be mxm

  • Bought one of this for an older family member, so far no problem!

  • Is the motherboard a standard size like mATX? Wondering if I can pull the internals and put it into a HTPC case that I have.

    • +2

Don't bother trying to transplant this into a new case. Proprietary motherboard, PSU, fans and cabling make the exercise more expensive than it's worth.

I'm actually quite fond of the design. It's well built and you'd be hard-pressed to find an alternative case with such a tiny footprint.

  • Great system. Run 10 until you can't, then install Linux Mint (or do it immediately).

It's for everyday use, not gaming, so don't expect it.

    Everything else? Fantastic.

    Cheers

    • I had to reign in my linux love years ago; i had to accept people just needed windows apps, and there was no way around it.

Now? Id say a good 75%+ of people could switch with no repercussions. Most people I know "stop work" when they lose internet, or a browser.

  • looking for a cheap monitor now.

  • Got one of these for a few years now. Upgraded to DDR 32GB running on Proxmox. Running pfsense for the internet firewall, open vpn for remote access. Added a 2TB NVME on a low profile PCIE M2 adapter for NAS hot storage. Recently upgraded to a 16TB IronWolf SATA for NAS cold storage. Handles 6x CCTV HD video stream like a boss. It runs 24x7 and best thing is less than 15 watts idle. Excellent ducted airflow design. Keeps the rest of parts relatively dust free. The form factor is the winner.

  • No 16GB option?

  • Wondering about getting one of these for playing media. Can it handle H265 videos? Also, does it have space/ports inside for a second HDD?

    Thanks.

    • No problem VLC doing H265. It will run one sata SSD and a sata HDD with the optical drive removed.

  • Looks like the shipping process is very slow. I purchsed the items 2 days a go. No updates yet.

    • I purchsed the items 2 days a go. No updates yet.

auspost is very busy at the moment.

    • Hi! we've got a tonne of orders atm, hardest part is packing them individually! couples days for processing is reasonable and you'll be notified once its sent out.

      • Hi FuseTechAu
Is it a new hard disk in this machine?
Are you selling the same machine on Ebay here with base specs?
Can I upgrade it (e.g. bigger HD) on Ebay?
        Thanks

  • +3

Reboot IT has similar systems for less. I ordered a slightly more expensive 6th gen i5 system off them for a small home network build that I'm doing and it only came to $233 delivered.

  • Are there any instructions for setting up the wifi dongle without ethernet first? Looks like it doesn't work straight out of the box which is a little frustrating. Hard to walk parents through driver installation over the phone

    • That’s why wifi dongles are a bit of a hit and miss.. if you’re lucky, you’ll get one that Windows has built in drivers for and it’ll be plug’n play - otherwise, it’s a manual driver installation.

Can be a real pain when it comes to compatibility too. Frequent dropouts, poor signal strength, manual tweaking of wireless adapter settings are just some examples I’ve had to deal with

  • Can this be upgraded to Win 11

    • Technically, you should be able to get it to install from scratch (see here for details). An upgrade probably won't work.

If you haven't bought one of these PCs yet, I would hold off until you find evidence that others have gotten Win 11 running successfully.

      • It will never be "supported" for Windows 11, better as a Linux box, but still too expensive for an old machine now, even with a new SSD drive. There will be tons and tons of machines that won't run Windows 11 and be supported, when that happens you might not even be able to give them away; there will be a huge e-waste problem that will really kick in when Windows 10 goes EOL.

      • It is possible to upgrade instead of clean install but the PC itself is unsupported hardware.

        https://www.techpowerup.com/287584/windows-11-tpm-requiremen…

        • Hmm.. this PC was released more than 8 years ago. Official support from Microsoft and Dell ended a long time ago. "Working" and "Supported" are two very different things.
