With a full Retina and IPS screen running in excess of Full HD, experience razor-sharp text and richer colours.

5MP iSight Camera

The camera has also been given a tuning. The sensor has been bumped up to 5MP and also features new optics, a backside illumination sensor, automatic white balance and face detection.

1080p video recording is also now an option, so you can capture every moment and keep it forever.

High Speed Wireless

Connect to your home or office Wi-Fi network and experience every piece of media the internet can offer!

Connect to Australian 3G data networks using DC-HSDPA technology - The new iPad can double your potential transfer rate, from 21.1Mbps to 42Mbps.

Unfortunately, The new iPad is currently not compatible with Telstra's 4G network. If Apple release a compatible model, we will be sure to stock it!

I really should buy more X'mas gift cards!!

    • Arrgghh… but can you use the gift cards to buy this?

      • +3

One thing to remember: Kogan bought these ipads from Hongkong (that's why it is cheaper), if history repeat itself there will be a huge demand for Hongkong stocks (from China and SEA countries), so I wont be surprised if Kogan cancelled these preorders or cant ship these ipads on time, simply because they cant buy enough at a low price during the 10 days after official launch. Let's wait and see.

        • +1

So the power plug for the charger will be incompatible for Australian use?

        • I received my 64GB/"4G" New Ipad yesterday, ie 26th April 2012… one MONTH after it was originally slated to be shipped!

Here's some info for those who haven't already found out:

          a) Walk-in-to-Apple-Genius-Bar-and-get-straight-swapover-for-hardware-fault-other-than-DOA - covered for 12 months of purchase/registration date.

          b) the "Send back to Apple HK" applies only to devices with mobile phone communication components, ie iphones. "3G" mobile internet is not classified the same way.

          c) I was only able to get this information from a senior Apple support manager/advisor - several instore and onphone Apple support personnel could not confirm this earlier, nor could 3 of Kogan employees that I spoke with.

          d) My ipad shipped with an AU power plug as a free additional extra included.

So in short, if you were happy to
wait the extra long time, you will get a fully locally supported Apple device for slightly cheaper, that being:

          Kogan = 789+29 = 818
          vs
          Apple = 899

          Hope this helps.

  • +2

    Nice, cheaper than States too..

    • -2

      No it's not: US$499 = AU$472

      • You need to add tax on top of the US price (the amount depends on which state you buy it from). No further cost to Kogan's price except for the $29 shipping for Sydney.

        • +3

I don't know what kind of person votes down a comment like this! US stores don't list taxes on items - period!

        • OK then, it's cheaper in SOME states in the US (Delaware, Montana, Alaska, Oregon, …….)
Edit: With free shipping to those places

  • yeah but how much for shipping?

    • $29

      • +4

That takes off the gloss, albeit still cheaper than RRP.

  • is it just me or there are only ipad2 listed on the link?

  • retina display (2048×1536 touchscreen) at this price, why are monitors still generally so expensive…

    • buy a 10" monitor and it'll be very cheap if you could accept it's size
for a full hd dell ultrasharp with promotion the price can go near $200 for 23"-24"(ipad 10" only) so what do you expect for the lower price?? free??
p/s: uou also get a mount for the monitor, cable out…with ipad how much it will cost you for a proper mount and cable?

      • +6

it's not cheap to make so many pixels for such a small screen, which is why larger sizes of monitor have higher resolutions. did you take that into account?

this display is more than full hd. also, it is a TOUCHSCREEN. and are proper mounts and cables that expensive? a cheapo 24" would not have a costly mount attached, you'd pay extra for that.

        • so is it cheap to make a larger screen? and if you after some genuine mount and cable from apple that will not be cheap, the mount which comes with dell ultra sharp is vice versa and it cost about $50 to buy it alone.

        • will the difference be hugely noticeable the ipad2 screen looks very good?

        • It's IPA as well I believe.

        • +1

          It's easier to fit 1920 x 1080 resolution in a 50" TV than a 13" laptop monitor.

          Same thing applies here.

        • this comment just made me wonder if the touch accuracy has increased with the resolution .. would it need to?

    • +4

Demand - it is likely that both in the consumer market and enterprise market, people are getting by with their 1050/1080p monitors. Given average viewing distance, it may be less of an issue for monitors. Consider also that PC sales aren't too flash and laptops/tablets are becoming more popular which decreases demand for stand alone monitors.
Economies of scale - Apple are able to commit to suppliers for massive orders. It is likely that no other company is willing to take the risk of having a huge inventory of expensive high resolution monitors.
Product features/Marketing - People are willing to commit to an iPad purchase for the premium because it is so much more than just a monitor. It is a software and hardware bundled device. It is incredibly accessible in retail/online and would have significantly better exposure compared to say "LG's 3840x2160 monitor"
      Plus many more reasons.

I'm sure that over time, whether its brought about by Apple bringing 'Retina displays' to Macbooks or a significant industry shift, cheaper high resolution displays will come.

      • very good answer! i'd definitely agree with market trends, economies of scale and marketing.

let's for that industry shift to come soon…

    "backside illumination"

    Who asked for that?

    • +22

Don't think so butt maybe I did.

      • +18

        Cheeky.

        • +6

          that made me crack up!

        • +1

The Ainol tablet could do with some backside illumination as well. Y'know, for better night camera shots.

    • +2

Those entering the iPad market for the first time.

      • -1

Particularly if their good are entering through the backdoor, rather than the regular channels.

You can really make an ass of yourself if you grey import and don’t pay the right duties!

        • aha, was i negged for bad taste, or for (jokingly) bagging grey imports [no gerry]?

  • +6

It's $490 + GST and free shipping on Apple store. This deal totals $508 no GST.
Cheaper to buy from the Apple store if you can claim GST back (eg. tourist refund scheme, or if you have a business).

    • +1

Except the more expensive models have bigger savings.

  • +2

Know I'm going to be flamed by apple fan boys here but…
What's the special here…its just RRP?

    • -1

why is it cheaper than the last model?

    • -2

silly question for an Ozbargainer, Kogan don't sell at Au$ RRP….

    • +1

I think it's slightly cheaper, bit better than US prices as stated above

      • Not when you factor in Kogan's exorbitant shipping costs. 16GB Wifi is $499 US? The ridiculous AU RRP is just Apple ripping Aussies off despite AU$ parity and beyond. In theory, $499 US = $469 AU. The fact that Apple is ripping everyone off and Kogan has their price closer to true RRP, which makes everyone think that its a deal is just sad.

Apple fanboy or not, this is just the truth.

        • +4

It's $499 + tax in the US. Factor in 10% GST here and it becomes $548.9, so the current pricing is better than parity (name any other tech company offering us better than parity prices on any of their products!)

        • seriously plasmapuff? I removed a neg from your post and answered your question and I get negged?
Kogan don't sell at Au$ RRP… that is the truth!!!
your post is just a flame.

        • +2

i cant see past the ice cream

  • I think it is cheaper in this deal, apple is selling the 16G WIFI + 4G @ AUD679, here is only AUD599. Am i missing something that i have overlooked?

  • +1

ur kidding me the new ipad is cheaper than the old one

    • Haha.. I was rubbing my eyes when I saw it!

    • Because this is the Hong Kong price whereas in Australia you pay the Aussie price.

  • -6

    from 21.1Mbps to 42Mbps.

    and pigs fly…

    • I.e. 21.1Mbps is the minimum? Pretty sure that's false advertising and would be very easy to disprove. Sue away ;)

    • It says "The new iPad can double your potential transfer rate, from 21.1Mbps to 42Mbps".

      • Nope, can't be done…

  • +1

Telstra will have to extract it's collective digits on it's 4G LTE offering or they'll get hammered!
No way Apple is going to let a generic wrapper anywhere near it's iOS system

    • I don't believe any of the other telcos in Australia are planning on releasing a 4G offering in the 700MHz spectrum either.

      • The current Telstra Connection Manager largely will give faster speeds to 3G than 4G in most places and wont work on MacOS
Peeps signing up for the new iPads on 4G packages expecting better than 3G are gunna be disappointed grrr
Can not see Apple writing a connection app for purely Australian conditions

    • What. Wont this work on Telstra 4G?

      • No - from what I understand the Apple flavoured 4G LTE only works on a USA specific 700MHz band which Telstra (nor any other Carrier) currently has access to …

        • Wahhhh

  • -1

"Expected dispatch date: 26th March 2012". This is 10 calendar days after the official launch date here. It will be more than 10 days for you to receive it when comparing to buying at the Apple Store on 16 March.

    • pretty sure you can wait 10 days
how urgently do you really need one of these????

      • +2

Why did that get negged? I personally can wait 10 days to save $50 on a wifi 32GB iPad.

  • I wish the shipping cost was lower but the model I'm getting is still $50 cheaper than getting it from Apple.
I'm going to order one. Would have to wait for the iPad to be delivered a little longer though.

  • Does anyone know if Apple Australia will cover the warranty for iPads sold by Kogan?

    • apple has worldwide warranty so yep!

      • Not according to Kogan website. It says "This product comes with a one year, Australia wide warranty. Please retain your tax invoice after the transaction.". Does this mean that you get the retailer's warranty, rather than from Apple?

        • The description labels it as an Australian Apple warranty. Retaining the tax invoice would just be if you need to prove it's less that a year old.

    • JFGI

  • Buyer beware. Cannot claim GST back

    • -2

Why not? Wouldn't you get an Australian tax invoice from Kogan?

      • +1

No - it is drop shipped from HK.

      • +3

        Why not?

Because you need a receipt that shows you paid GST in the first place…

        • -1

Kogan is registered for GST and is obliged to provide invoice with GST. You can claim the GST back.

Kogan CANNOT provide a GST-free invoice.

        • +1

seijai - Not if you are buying an imported item under $1,000 in value. GST exempted.

    • GST isn't all that matters -Still could claim depreciation of the total cost of the unit off your Tax - if you can make a case that you need it in the derivation of your income

      • Agree, but this is not a differential point for this (ie. whether to buy from Apple or from Kogan).

  • does it come with an ice cream?

    • +1

      no, but with an apple.

      • +9

sounds like a bit of a lemon

    • Just the sandwich.

  • -1

    how about warranty? from Kogan?

  • +3

Shit, why do they charge $200 for 48gb extra? 64GB micro sd cards only cost about $70.

    • because it is a hdd? just like 3TB 3.5' HDD (per Gig) is more expensive than a 2TB.

    • +5

Micro sd cards have a slower transfer rate then the on-board memory

  • I wonder if Apple still have any plans to release a 7" tablet.
That would be an ideal size for me - a lot more portable and the reduced weight would make it confortable to be used as an eReader.

    • -1

      buy a Kindle then…

    • +7

      7" is your ideal size?

  • +5

Am I the only one planning on getting a wifi model and then using my phone as a hotspot connection whenever I do need internet access on the ipad outside of wifi range? Is this not a good idea for some reason? Everyone seems to be buying the 3G models.

    • +1

I agree, will only be getting the WiFi ver.

    • +2

Hotspot on iPhone is rubbish. You have to manually keep turning it back on.

I think I will get a MiFi hotspot, that way the notebook and iPad run off a single SIM.

      • I have the vodafone mifi, but it's been a bit of a hassle with my ipad 1, so this time I'm going the 3(4)g model.

    • nope I just bought an iPad 2 wifi only model

    • Yeah I will be doing the same with WiFi version - hope it works ok

  • +1

    30 bux for delivery? Makes the 32G + 4G $728.

I think I will save the hassle and pay the extra 60 bux.

    • or price match with JB

      • Pretty sure apple will artificially restrict availability again, making JB price matching moot.

        • artificially restrict availability again

why would they want to reduce their revenue ???

      • JB might ask you to come back and try asking for price match again between March 26-31. They will usually require the item to be in stock.

  • +2

This is only cheaper because you are avoiding the GST. There is not nearly enough saving for me to bother, considering the wait for delivery & issue with warranty.

  • I've been thinking about buying an iOS product for quite some time now before windows 8 and jelly bean takeover the market. Need some advice if this is a good price or not. I'm an international student so I don't think I'd benefit from the GST tax reimbursement or whatnot. Thanks

  • +1

    ordered 4 thanks alot

    • +1

good luck with customs on that one, they will add gst and duty on it.
