Hello guys, I own a property (house and land, not strata) and want to build a shed on top of a concrete slab (already exists). Im with Brimbank city council in Melbourne, VIC, Australia, and wondered if I would need a permit to construct a workshop/shed roughly 20M squared [4M (W) X5m (L) X 2.4-3M (H)]. Afaik, I do not need a permit for one that does not exceed 10M squared. Looking for some advice on how best to approach this, and ultimately how much a permit would set me back given its just a shed.
Rough Cost to Install SHED/ WORKSHOP 4M (W) X5m (L) X 2.4-3M (H) // Permit Costs

Hmmmm
Build two sheds next to each other, then cut a hole between them /s
jokes aside, unfortunately i cant cos after you build the first shed thats 10m squared or lower, you need a permit for the second one regardless of size. thats how they get you
thats how they get you
I think you meant to continue that sentence with "to abide by the rules".
Easy $30k but it depends on exactly what you want and other factors. A quality shed with a frame rather than just walls is going to run at least $10k. Add in a slab to put it on and perhaps leveling the site and retaining walls, storm water connection, run electricity to it and install outlets and lights, plus your development application and permits (I have no idea of your specific council requirements) and of course labour for everything. Then there's smaller stuff like do you want to insulate it, have AC, storage racking etc etc
What would the shed be built from?
Is it near a boundary?
What is the access like?
Request a free permit quote and they'll tell you straight up what the costs are or if indeed doesn't apply to a shed:
