Refills, if you already have this dispenser (as they're at that price every 1-2 months):

That's for the non foaming refill. The foaming refill is not on sale at the moment

Mixing any soap 1:1 with water in a foaming dispenser get's you the same results. I was skeptical but it worked.

        • +4

Legit true, I am a bit tighter on the ratio closer to 3:1 haven't looked back since.

The springs in these despensers are only good for so long and start to get stuck.

          • +2

@janoski: I find even 1:4 is still effective too, but it depends on the handwash.

I make it up in a 1L plastic milk bottle to give it time to disperse so when the dispenser runs out, only need to pour more in.

@jolee3: Can we get an OzBargain badge, or something, for this guy? 👍

            • @jolee3: Definitely, made a terrible mess the first time I did it in one of the pump bottles 😂

        • +1

Don't do this. It dilutes the effectiveness of the soap and can introduce bacteria into it which may not be destroyed because the water throws off the balance of the actual soap. It's like adding water to a bottle of 60% alcohol hand sanitizer - you're throwing off the balance of alcohol:everything else which comes out in each pump.

If you want foaming hand soap, buy it. Don't make your own, especially when we're in a pandemic.

@bakerindisguise: Isn't that how they make foaming handwash anyway?

            • @Gaz1: Most soaps will have water as the first ingredient on the list. Foaming handwash does have more water in it but it's balanced with that in mind so they have the right mix of all the other ingredients to ensure efficacy. It's difficult to know how much water in the bottle is enough to not throw off the balance of the rest of the product.

          • @bakerindisguise: Correct me if I'm wrong - I'm no scientist - but I thought the friction of rubbing one's hands together plays a bigger part in the effectiveness of handwashing, vs. the actual soap itself. In which case friction is still happening. If the water is clean (filtered/purified), given how quickly it is used here, I don't see bacteria multiplying at dangerous rates.

Also, we use hand sanitiser when out and coming home so germs and bacteria are not introduced into the house. Within the house itself we shouldn't then have to live in pandemic conditions - we'd all wear masks inside if we had to.

            • @jolee3: That is part of it, which is why authorities say that you should sing while washing your hands to ensure that you're scrubbing everything off. If you just wash your hands with water, you can only scrub off a fraction as many germs as you would if you did that with soap. Since water is already a prominent part of liquid soap, adding a tablespoon might not make it completely useless but not all soaps are created equal. There's no one size fits all formula, so when diluting you don't know for certain if you've destroyed the entire solution.

I understand money can be tight which is why my beloved mother insisted on diluting absolutely everything. But if you're struggling to afford cleanings supplies I really recommend contacting a local initiative that donates things to less fortunate people.

@bakerindisguise: fair point but this one (from op) isn't anti bacterial so… won't kill bacteria

Don't buy refills as 4x of this bottle (250mL) is cheaper than 1L refill, according to this deal.

        • Whilst a good bargain, just a tad bit wasteful

          • +1

@janoski: Absolutely agree. Let's all blame this on Amazon this time.

        • how? this deal 1L with s&s $2.93

  • Also available in Palmolive Foaming Antibacterial Hand Wash Soap Lime and Mint Pump 0% Parabens Recyclable, 250mL

  • anyone can recommend a hands-free soap dispenser? My Detol one just died and it seems it's discontinued.

    • There have been mentions of a Xiaomi one. Might want to search that?

      • Yea Xiaomi one looks good but lack of good deals on that recently

    • Maybe too many DIY refills and they can't make much money on it, like me lol

  • +3

Hi all, just want to contribute and say that these smell freaking amazing. I feel compelled to wash my hands as often as possible to get this scent in my nose

    • Try the cherry blossom sanitiser also - you won't be disappointed!

  • Looks like it's all sold out now?
