Too much faffing about in Xen.
The best part about Black Mesa is even though it's a HD remake, they did a complete overhaul of the Xen section of the game (because most agree that it was the worst part about the original game).
It was a lot shorter than that for me but it's very good either way. Being familiar with Half-Life may speed things up.

Valve gets a 30% cut. They are doing ok.
Half-Life 1 was probably the best value game I have ever bought. Fantastic single/multiplayer and then years of gaming with mods. I believe the valve game bundle goes on sale often giving you all their titles for very low cost.
Best value, and definitely in the top 5 games I've EVER bought. HL 2 also easily in the top 5
With all the expansions it was a great game, story line and days of play.

There's major changes in the Xen section, the rest is smaller changes and a facelift
Up to Xen it's true to the original (aside facelift) with the exception that they did make changes to improve clarity and direction, so that people wouldn't get lost/stuck as often and would be more likely to make it through to Xen. I think they did a fantastic job managing that improvement of clarity while staying true to the original. I also really liked the new Xen levels but it seems some others feel it's too long. But in general, most aspects have been reworked in some capacity, mostly small changes.
I'd pay 5x this for a PS4 / PS5 edition :(

Played it ages back, well worth it to relive the OG. Or if you've never played but always wanted to, this is more accessible than original.

Don't bother, Xen is easily the worst part of the this remake.
A lot of people felt the same way about Half-Life. I enjoyed it in both cases, but admit it was longer than necessary.
I actually started to enjoy the game a bit more when I hit the Xen levels. I couldn't understand what the fuss was with Black Mesa until then. But I realise I'm probably in the minority here
I remember playing HL1 when it first came out, blew my mind in terms of size, story, music etc
Its been years since ive even seen it but i can remember all the levels, the sound effects etc
