  • While it may fit and work, I don't think this meets spec…
"Sequential read speed: 5,500MB/s or faster is recommended"

    https://www.playstation.com/en-us/support/hardware/ps5-insta…

    • I understand. But it is "recommended", a couple of reviewers have already mentioned drives even in the 4k mark have worked fine: https://www.theverge.com/2021/8/4/22608153/ps5-ssd-speed-tes…

Then again, can't guarantee it will be optimal for future games. However, another thing to note is that Gigabyte themselves have advertised: "Up to 5,600 MB/s read speed on PS5 M.2 extension slot"

  • Yeah it's dodgy af their advertising

Sequential Read Speed : up to 5000 MB/s**
Sequential Write speed : up to 4400 MB/s**

    &

"AORUS NVMe Gen4 SSD meets the required performance and dimensions of PS5 M.2 SSD.

According to the expansion requirements of PS5, SSD Sequential read speed needs to be up to 5,500MB/s. Working with PS5, AORUS NVMe Gen4 SSD delivers up to 5600 MB/s sequential read.
    "

    Which is it lol

I know right, their original ad before any testing was done on the PS5 was just the "Sequential Read Speed : up to 5000 MB/s**". I've looked at this SSD before and was close to ordering, but now their ad has this "5,600" PS5 compatible portion, so I just ordered anyway and I'll try to hold them accountable to it. lol

In any case, tests have shown even slower drives (Verge tested a 3900MB/s max drive) than this have worked, so I hope this is fine.

        Hopefully!

Its like $200 cheaper then their other drive!

GIGABYTE AORUS Gen4 7000s SSD 2TB PCIe 4.0 NVMe M.2, Nanocarbon Coated Aluminum Heatsink, 3D TLC NAND, SSD- GP-AG70S2TB https://www.amazon.com.au/dp/B08XY93JT3/ref=cm_sw_r_apan_glt…

I'll probably pull the trigger when the firmware lands and a tonne of users jump on drives!

As soon as the software goes live I'll test this drive out and post speed results here for others to gauge

        • Speaking of, the PS5 SSD update is coming tomorrow: https://blog.playstation.com/2021/09/14/ps5s-september-syste…

Hopefully the package arrives as expected on Thursday and I'll be able to test it then. Will post results!

@animasoIa: Nice. Pulled the trigger on a GP-AG70S1TB.

I should've just gone to bed!

            • @Kammi: Fwiw, the read speed for the GP-AG70S1TB clocked in at 6558.312 MB/s on my ps5

              • @Kammi: You already got your order?
Also it's sad that you got less than the recommended speeds

                • @maverickjohn: Yeah local pickup, guess I got what I paid for!

                  • @Kammi: Congrats. I can't do local pick up. Locked down pretty tight even though I have been double vaxxed since it's first launched.

      • Additionally, the director at Insomniac (makers of Ratchet and Clank, one of the more IO intensive games) has confirmed slower drives worked but were indeed noticeably slower: https://twitter.com/fitzymj/status/1420825603784122371

I just read that, if it's loading times then that's ok, but if it's stuttering ingame then that would be a deal breaker for me.

I imagine gow ragnarok with a stutter leading to death on a 1% wipe on an equivalent to gmgow ng+ sigurun!!!! 😭🤬

          Rather pay the money 🤣

          • +1

@Kammi: Just installed it this morning and it meets the "recommended" speed. Actual PS5 benchmark showed 5636 MB/s. Very happy with the purchase :)

            • @animasoIa: Awesome, I'm thinking i could've went the 2TB and just put ps4 games on the ssd and leave the stock drive for ps5 native games…!

Not that many ps5 titles lol..

              Horizon fw
              Gow ragnarok
              Elden ring

              And?

Having said that I can fit all my ps4 titles onto the 1tb lol

              🤷‍♂️

    • It's possible PS5 tests drive speeds differently to PCs, so that could explain the difference.

I also bought this for the ps5. Since it can reach the minimum speed also has a heatsink which makes it ready to go from the box.
Managed to get it for $361.25 from DandD computers. They brought the price down to $425 for me

      I got 5622.
Extremely happy with that. Thanks everyone

Pretty good result considering advertised speeds are "up to 5000 MB/s". Whereas the 7000 rated and advertised drives (e.g. 980 pro, Aorus 7000s, SN850, etc.) have actual benchmarks of around 6400 MB/s.

For almost half the price, it's just an 800 MB/s gap, which is smaller than I expected.

        • Absolutely provably best bang for buck drive out there. I was gutted I didn't get the pny for $315. Buy that didn't have a heatsink either.
Would have costed at least 335for heat sink and drive.
But this has a manufacturing tyre installed heatsink and works well for an extra $30. Brings peace of mind.

  • Never mind ;)
