Went in to check for a friend and saw they had this, seems like a pretty good deal.

Grab a Samsung S21 5G 128GB Upfront for $199 when you sign up as a new or port in customer on Telstra's $69 per month Plan over 12 months. Plan includes 60GB + 20GB bonus data and infinite talk and text. If 128GB isn't enough, you can grab the 256GB variant for $100 more.

  • Worth checking with Telstra directly if they really want you as a customer. Nothing to lose.

Get this, sell the phone, buy the new iPhone. Or wait for another deal with the iPhone?

Ah iphones, 1/4 of the functionality with half of the performance for twice the price! But it's shiny and is made by a billionaire, goOd DeAl!

      • Actually iPhones have been dominant in performance for the last couple years, personally I like Android. Not a huge fan of Samsung (generally a lack of custom roms) but for the average person Samsung offers a pretty decent experience.

I used to love Android until they got rid of Google Play Music.

Even though I do appreciate Android's functionality (mainly the ability to hook up to a PC to move music/photo/video files around). YT Music's time wasting UI is fairly irritating and making me consider trying an iPhone again.

Price wise, Android phones drop much faster so if you are willing to wait, Androids are great. But at release, both Android and iPhones put it up at rip off prices. Not really "twice the price" anymore. Both rip you off.

If you want a phone at release, iPhones hold value longer.
If you can wait for the phone to age first before buying, Android phones drop in price faster.

        • Yea I lost quite a bit on that Google play music saga aswell, legal theft, a lesson learned the hard way. For me it's that functionality that is king, a phone is so much more than just for playing games, and making calls. I'm sure ipones fill a niche, I used them up till the 5s, and they were superior up till then but androids caught up and haven't slowed down, iPhone is too shackled but an oppressive operating system.

@lew380: Yeah I feel you. It's irritating af having a locked down phone when you like to organise files via PC. I know both sides.

My next phone is probably going to be a Sony phone, which is both expensive and a pain in the ss to buy in Australia.

But they have microSD compatibility, headphone jacks, and a native music player that doesn't ask you to subscribe every time you open it up, and you don't have to click through your way to your albums/songs YTMusic/upload as they just have dedicated tabs. Like Google Play music did.

So funny how all these phone makers kept losing and dropping functionality over these years.

  • just to confirm, this is an account with telstra and not some cut down version for jbhifi?

JB resell Telstra services. It's a normal Telstra account.

    • It's a little different.
Uses Telstra network (full, not wholesale), but as its pointed out it's 60gb + 20gb bonus, not 80gb like the telstra medium plan. I could be wrong but last time I signed up it mentions the bonus being for the 12mths of the plan.
It's more expensive than the telstra medium plan, and can't add international calling.

I'm on the jbhifi $99 plan and having issues with Telstra Plus at the moment, had an account up until last week (with 20k+ points) now all of a sudden I'm told I can't sign up with Telstra Plus on this plan.
Been on chat a number of times, they tell me it will be sorted and now the last time I spoke I have to go into a Telstra shop and verify my Id??

  • how would you cancel the telstra contract?
How much would it cost to do so in total so I can just keep using my current sim card?

  • Hi has anybody had any luck with this in Brisbane?

    • Works in Perth.

      • Thanks yep I got it on Wednesday in Brisbane CBD

  • has anyone been made to repay the voucher?

  • This hasn't expired, I just went and got it today. I'm using the sim to also run a gaming pc off while I work away so will use the excess data on game updates.
