If using second hand books is your personal preference, then fair enough. But people have reasons in buying brand new stuff, not just books.
With most things, second hand goods are always cheaper and you're not comparing the same thing. If we go by your reasoning, then most of OzBargain deals are expensive since you can get most of them cheaper second hand.
Condoms are the only thing I buy second hand.
Pretty sure they don't just throw the books out after you're done renting them.

You don't even have it available but if you did, you would rent it for $70.20. Well I bought it second hand for $60 in perfect condition.
Of the other three books i needed two are not listed, the other rents at $60 and I chose to buy it new for $92 - I'm sure it could be had second hand for around $40-50.
