        If you are a full license holder you can use your phone for navigation purposes if it is secured in a commercially designed holder fixed to the vehicle, or can be operated hands-free. Bad luck if you're on your Ps or Ls.

    No need to patch smart phone OS to keep them secure, apart from the Google Maps app itself.
    No silly push notifications or SMS getting in the way of navigation when there is only one priority rather than conflicting ones.
    Preference to stay away from gravel road or off road tracks in dedi GPS compared to limited options in Google Maps, and other such features.
    Optimized battery drain of the device for just single use.

  Learners and provisional can't use a phone while driving. Even if it's for gps only and cradled to a mount.
